Putnam County Golf Course
About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

Great during weekday afternoon
we got to course 45 minutes ahead of time starter said we had to wait till time we paid for on golf now even though no one else was there. Makes no sense to me.Had this happen once before at another course. This makes me feel as though they resent that we booked on golf now.Again we were not asking to get in front of anyone guess they liked their authority.
Firm and fast greens
Good track in good condition. Greens are excellent- firm and fast.
Very slow play with no rangers visible to speed up play of really slow groups 5-hour weekday round....too long
Summer Gem
1st time playing this course. What made this a great experience started by being greeted by 2 of the most jovial, pleasant and funny gentlemen (employees) at the bag drop/starter box! Helpful, informative staff including in pro shop. Course was nicely manicured, greens very fast (they had been cut & rolled that morning)! Made for challenging putting. A lot of doglegs which made for interesting play! Definitely would recommend, worth the trip if you are in this area!
Putnam
Really nice course. Was pretty busy for a weekday but after 9 it got a little quicker. They need to put water out at the stations however. Solid conditions and will definitely play again.
Great First Time Experriecne
This was my first round at Putnam. From the beginning it was a great experience. The staff were attentive and friendly. The course - especially the greens were in excellent shape - a few greens had some repairs in progress but did not anything significant. The fairways were devoid of divots - apparently the members replace them and this is also a priority of the ground crew. The greens are insidious and you have to get used to the mounds which hide slopes that when you get closer you find you are off the green when you had thought you were on. I plan to play again soon and reduce the three putts. BTW there is a brand new Men's locker room which is fantastic.
review
Course was really wet, but it is well maintained. Probably will be great, once it dry's out, hopefully no more rain!
Horrible shape
Greens were recently aereated. Had not been cut. Unbelievably slow. Course was soggy, should have been closed. Could not even walk in many fairways without sinking in the mud. Balls plugged in fairways. Just too wet for play.
A pearl of Hudson Valley
The course will be very beautiful in summer and fall. A must try in New York State
