About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

a very good mjuni. has both a challenging yet straight forward course. Well worth it. always go back several times a year.

Great head start to opting season

Course is challenging for all levels
Last time I played course was 5 years ago. I was not disappointed. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in great shape. Finished in just over 4 hours. No GPS but each tee box features a stone-like layout of the hole with suggestions on how best to play hole. I'll be back and won't wait 5 years to play it again!

love the course for a beginner I'm not an experience golfer but all I can say is that the place is beautiful

Played early so pace was very good, course tends to play slow, conditions were very good except for water in a few traps, on the expensive side for a public course

Course i great shape
Second time playing round with my Son. Fairways, greens are in great shape. Short rough makes it easy to find errant shots. Greens very challenging. will definitely play there again.

nice course
course was very nice. finished round at like 5 o'clock and wanted to get something to drink and eat but bar was closed. That was a little disappointing. But overall I would play again

Expensive for the experience
I've played here many times because it's so close. It's fairly pricy for what you get. For non residents it's almost $70 per round.
Generally the pace of play is very slow regardless of your tee time, your almost always waiting for a group ahead of your to shoot, and I have yet to see the rangers tell anyone they need to increase their pace. They just cream as many people as they can onto the course. Many people lack general golf etiquette, I've had people drive right out onto my fairway while my group is in the middle of teeing off, and take far too long to pick up or choose a club and shoot, with no regard for our group. Also pay attention because balls we'll get very close to you without warning, because the course is tight. And you may as well cover when you hear FORE because it can cine from anywhere.
The conditions are usually very nice and well groomed.

Always great condition
This course is always in top condition. Pace of play is usually good even on crowded days.
