Putnam County Golf Course
About
Nestled in the Lower Hudson Valley, Putnam County Golf Course enjoys a scenic location amid rolling hills yet it’s not too far from the city. Formerly known as Putnam National, the club was originally opened as a private club in 1959, it opened to the public when it was bought by the county in 2004 but it continues to offer the quality and amenities of a private country club. The golf course has front and back nines that are completely different from one another so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. Water hazards only come into play on two holes but don’t let that fool you, this course is formidable even for avid golfers. Putnam County Golf Course's final four holes are an especially challenging stretch that will test you with everything from uphill lies to a slew of strategically placed bunkers.

No
Extremely poor service. Had to get a rain check and was told to come back the next day. Went back at the time we were told, but then was told something completely different by the same person who helped us the day before and tried to charge us extra. Never coming back here.
No complaints....but
Tons of rocks in the sand traps. That should be the next thing to fix after a lot of nice renovations. Looking forward to my next round here.
I know you have to do your job but .....
The course was excellent and they are doing a lot of work to fix the drainage issues around the 12th hole. The Golfnow rate is well worth the value but my only complaint was that a grounds keeper drove up on the green to water it while one of foursome was in the processes of addressing his putt. Needless to say it was very distracting and he should of waited 2 minutes for us to finish the hole. However this is very rare, i play this course often and the staff is very friendly and professional.
Frustrating Round
We had a 1:35 Tee Time and we tee'd off about 15 minutes late. We waited on every hole and on every shot. It took about 6 hours to complete this round. I will not return to this course on a weekend. The twosome behind drove past us on the 16th hole stating they were done and the single they paired us up with (who is a local and played the course many times) quit after the 16th holes also. Just grabbed his bag off the cart and walked to his car. The conditions of the course were good and the course has some challeging holes but pace of play was dreadful. Won't be returning.
Great place to play
Everything was great! Only reason I gave 4 stars on conditions was they had a huge construction project going on along side one of the holes. It was very distracting. Other than that, it was a wonderful experience.
Very pleased
Unfortunately, I have been mostly priced out of playing golf, however your Groupon offer was too good to pass up. I bought another one, so I will come again. I would like to see you be able to run some of those clinics, they could really help my 17 year old son, who is starting to play.
nice scenery, some work being done on course, quite long
course plays long, almost 6400 yards. Lots of uphill shots.
not the best
5 hours to play. Not one Ranger on the course. Alot of sandtraps had standing water in them. This was my 2nd time playing here and I can't say this course will be added to my favorites. There are other better courses in the area. Speed of play here is the worst part about playing here.
Same ol' Putnam
The nicest part about this golf course is the parking lot which they renovated. Would have been nice for them to put that time, effort and money into the course instead.
Great bang for the buck
This course was in really good shape for a wet start to the spring season. This was my first round of the 2014 season. Course layout is fair and playable, but includes some challenging doglegs and blind approaches. Overall had a good time despite some rain. For the money, I'll be coming back.
Good Start
First timer on this course, In very good condition especially so early in the season. The greens are big, sloping in many cases with difficult pin placements. The holes play long with few water hazards or trees in play. But the many fairways are sloped left or right. The clubhouse is more destined for catering with the golf shop below and in the back. The cafeteria is makeshift and unappealing. The course is being upgraded and there is construction on two holes in the back 9
windy day
Wind added to difficulty of course. A beautiful course beside the construction on a couple of holes on the back 9 a nice place to play will go back again.
poor staff
I reserved tee time at GolfNow including 18 holes and cart. Staff told me the price I paid at Golfnow is just for walk. I said it's ok. I'm fine to just walk. Then he told me that I can't start at reserved tee time, because it is only for ride. Just a bit surprise how they treat customers.
Needs more conspicuous warning in GolfNow display
I paid GolfNow Hot Deal $44 plus change for 11:44 AM. I thought it included a cart. But the golf shop charged me separate and additional $16 for a cart saying that my reservation through GolfNow was for just a walk. Embarrased.
However, at the end of the game my 3 playmates told me they each paid only $21 and additionally $16 for a cart at the golf shop for the same 11:44 AM. Puzzled.
Good county course
Nice place to play, friendly staff, some construction going on but arrangements have been made. Watch out for the misleading prices on golfnow as you might have to shell out $ for the cart ( mandatory before 2pm on weekends)
Early Spring Round
I played on a pretty blustery 55 degree day. The grass is still waking up from it's long winter's nap, and the fairways, in spots, are still drying out. I can say that there is absolutely no standing water. Fairways and rough are mucky in spots, but in general, considering the winter we had, things weren't half bad. This was my first round of the year, and I was lucky there weren't too many people out. The front nine holes all essentially run parallel to each other, with few trees separating fairways. I can only imagine how chaotic things can get during summer weekends. The front nine fairways are relatively straight forward, therefore, the greens can border on the absurd at times. The back nine is much more enjoyable, HOWEVER, there is major landscaping constructions and renovations taking place. Not sure it all will be done by the summer. The greens are more moderate given the challenges presented by bodies of water, and more drastic elevation changes. Overall an enjoyable experience. I will be interested to see what the course looks like once all of the construction is finished (some going on in the parking lot as well). I would play again, as I feel it's pretty reasonably priced. There are more interesting courses in the area though.
Good first round of the year
Course was a little wet in spots but in good shape overall. Greens rolled well considering the winter we just had.
Very Nice Golf Course
This is a very nice course and will be even better when the current construction project is completed. I was able to play on a weekday thru a great Hot Deal of 20 bucks. It is now the off season with cool/colder weather so it was priced accordingly.
Staff is super friendly and that makes a difference in deciding to return and play again
This course has only gotten better. It is challenging but forgiving. Cannot beat the price with this kind of course. Easy to get to and they are very agreeable to helping you with all of your needs.
