Good Muni but pricey!
Ball doesn't roll out so course plays longer. The trees and atmosphere is really pretty nice for a city course. Walkers and joggers are on the outskirts of some holes enjoying the nature. The fixable drawback is the carts and cart paths. The EZGO golf carts are the biggest pieces of sh I've ever rode in before. The cart paths are littered with holes! Typical New Yorkers some very nice but others are a pain.
Worthy Staten Island Muni
Played on a Mon mid-morning so getting in around 4 hours should be expected but hey it's still great time.
Walked 18 - asked to rent a push cart since I am not local and the pro shop guy had to ask his manager and they said they were not able to rent them - no explanation - maybe COVID-19 related - just thought it was strange when I walked right past 6 push carts. Anyway got paired with some locals and they were a great group of guys, it's nice to have some local knowledge for some of the blind tee shots but not a big deal. Plenty of hills, wide fairways, and elevated greens. Course condition not bad, some tee boxes pretty barren but fairways and greens for the most part no major issues. The rough was thick but not too deep. Layout is fairly straight forward but enough variety and challenge to keep you on your toes. Front 9 plays long at par 37 and then back nine gives you a break with par 35 and not as tough. From the locals I played with this is the best Staten Island muni, maybe save for Silver Lake. I would play it again when in Staten Island, would not got out of my way to play. Some great pizza places near by!
Unfriendly crew
Overpriced and treat treat everyday golfers badly and try to tack on fees if your a single golfer
Terrible management
Chris is a terrible manager. He is rude, inconsiderate and disrespectful … I came in with a reservation and expressed to me the time was double booked without even looking at my confirmation receipt. He said I have to take it up with GolfNow and couldn’t offer me any assistance or resolution …. He made guests feel unwelcome and don’t recommend anyone dealing with him. I traveled from Long Island to play in Staten Island planning my entire day around playing here and heading into NJ for another appointment. Chris fails to realize when people make a reservation for golf they’ve devoted 5+ hours of their day to be somewhere and then ruined the entire day. Time to look for a true leader !
Nice course but one huge problem !
This course is 2 miles from my house and I’ve always loved playing it. It took a hit during Covid and made a huge come back. That being said there is one major issue that needs to be addressed. Because there is access to the golf course from the street I’ve experienced People walking on the course as if it were a public park. I’ve seen children playing in the traps as if they were sandboxes. I’ve seen them playing on greens and I’ve seen people laying down suntanning and even families picnicing. I am sure management is aware of this issue however until something is done about it I will not be going back. I paid for 18 holes today and only played nine because of this. After hitting up onto the ninth green nearly missing a child playing I was rattled. I returned the car and left. This is not a total reflection on the staff who had always been extremely friendly and accommodating. I’m just afraid I will be responsible for hurting a child
Best I have ever seen it
Been playing here for the last 25 years. This is the best I have ever seen this place. The sand (dirt) traps are still terrible and some of the tee boxes are beaten up but fairways and greens are immaculate. Wouldn’t dare pay $70 on a weekend to be here but highly recommend any hot deal. Couple holes have a ground hornet problem that needs to be taken care of.
Surprisingly decent
The course was in surprisingly good shape. Fast and clean greens. There was a decent amount of hilly fairways and elevation changes to keep it interesting. I’ve always avoided booking here, but it seems the current bad rating is from mismanagement of the course last year.
