Best of the NY Municipals
Getting there is half the fun and the cost. It will cost you $16 to get across the Verrazano. Its worth it. From the Blue tees this is a big boys golf course at close to 7000 and long carries required. Best fairways in the muni rotation. Elevated tees allow for a grip it and rip it approach but you still need to be accurate as its a parkland course and the trees and deer are there to remind you. One of the few driving ranges where you can hit driver. Weekend rounds are 5+ hours but what else is new. It's a good test although a bit expensive compared to the other munis but you get what you pay for.
In great condition
Been playing this course for years and it's in the best condition I've ever seen. Kudos to the superintendent/staff. It's more expensive than the other New York City courses, but still worth playing. We had a great time. Foursome finished in just over 4 hours. That's fantastic by NYC municipal standards. Book a round.
Room for improvement
Tee boxes are not in good shape. Fairways and Greens are good pace of play was painful over 5 hours
The course played very well and was in good condition especially for this time of the year. The pace of play was much better than it is during the height of season.
Good course for letting it rip off the tee.
The fairways are wide with no dog legs where you don't have a decent angle in for your approach. Par threes are very short. Fun layout. Had a few good undulating greens.
The only downfall was the pace of play which was horrid. And the thing that made it worse was the fact that there were no rangers to push the slow groups along. We had to pile our entire foursome on my cart to skip the slow group ahead of us. (Gave myself a par. Ha.) Pretty bad from that standpoint.
If you can get on and avoid the slow pace of play, it's an extremely fun and casua course.
Fun layout
Course is in great shape. Greens rolling true and fast. Fairways and tee boxes clean and lush.
Pace of play can be better but thats most courses.
Just one of those long rounds
My earlier review I already said this place is hit or miss. Learning the game on this course I played here in all different situations whether enjoyable to as bad as self-inflicting pain. Today was one of those days where the course was overbooked and the front 9 took 3 hours to finish. Weekends are like this but this is a Wednesday afternoon. With their "Players Club", members could pretty much walk on whenever they please despite people having tee times. Never have I seen 4 different foursomes trying to play a hole simultaneously. (2 foursomes waiting on the tee box, another foursome in the fairway, and the last foursome putting on the green. This is the first time I played La Tourette this year so this overbooking during the week was new to me. At least now I know how people are getting treated, I'm not coming back here for a while.
Best kept Secret
First time playing La Tourette. I heard good things about it but never consider driving out to Staten Island. After playing it the course, believe me it's well worth the trip. The course is wide open and yet still has long, challenging holes. The place is well manicured and the pace of play is Awesome. Staten Island (LaTourette) will definitely be seeing much more of me.
Great course conditions
I had a nice round at Latourette. The staff was very nice and helpful and I was paired up with 3 very friendly golfers. The course was in great shape and so were the greens.
Confused
I'm a faithful Golf Now customer and I usually book 95% of my playing time through this web site, so when I'm done purchasing my course time it basically explains my purchase, it usually mentions the course, the time, holes & cart included, now when mention to me that the cart is included in my reservation. Now, on this particular day after registering at the pro shop I received my keys and off I went to the !st hole thinking things are going to be great today the weather was fine and I have not played here in a while so I was very eager to play, but, when I reached the send-off area the person said I have to share a cart with another single player that had his own cart. I immediately refused, I explained to this individual that within my receipt says Cart included, he claims I only paid for a half cart? So he suggested that if I did not like this rule take your receipt to the pro shop and get your money back (RUDE). I could not understand cause on the way to him I saw close to 20 carts parked. Anyhow,, I said fine I will do that, I asked for my money back, I explained the situation to the person at the pro shop and finally contacted that person and decided to let us go with our own carts. I didn't care to much about the situation but I had a great time thereafter, the course was in the greatest shape I have ever seen it, the fairways were magnificently manicured and the greens well, you must play this course again & again, what ever they did they did it right......
Course is in very good shape.
Course is in very good shape and late spring is the best time to play this course, before the outings tear it up.
Okay
Prices very good for a round of golf on SI. Course is a challenge. I expected more of the place from what I had heard. However, Bathroom condition at noon was as if not cleaned in days.
Beauiful weather but too long to finish all courses.
Everything seemed great for playing. Too many people were playing. In this reason, I was playing 6 hours to finish whole round.
spacious
Course is in good condition but I found it odd that once booking on golf now, LaTourette golf course refused to provide me with their senior rate.
The course is well groomed and beautiful
As a senior citizen and in a fixed income I was a little dissatisfied with the price. I booked the tee time on golf now, combine that fee with the course fee and it's a little pricy.
Other courses ofer senior rates sometimes as low as $26
LaTourette
Fairways were cut yesterday and Clumps of Grass Clippings were all over the fairways. Greens were in great shape except for the fact that the greens could have been cut Shorter or Rolled flatter,Tee Boxes were a Horror !!! On many Tee Boxes we had to Tee off outside the Designated Box. Typical 5/12 hour Round ...
Only needs sand in its bunkers
Good layout. Lots of elevation changes. No sand in the bunkers. Only drawback to an otherwise good golf experience
