Fabulous greens
Greens in best shape i've seen (granted par 3's take a good deal of punishment). Pace of play is always an issue here, course should be proactive, reactive. Overall very enjoyable round, minimal leaves for this time of year.
Nice course
Played a foursome midweek. First time here. One of the nicest city courses ever played. Well cared for overall and forgiving fairways. Mostly par 5s and 4s with a couple of 3s. Only one water hazard, but numerous sand traps. Will surely be back.
McD
Great layout need a little more sandi in the traps greens were good , good fairways .
Pace was kept up .
Disappointing
I have 3 issues with the round of golf I played 1. We arrived extra early to hit balls at range but was told they ran out of balls ( it was a mid morning ) 2. Play was very slow and we did not see a ranger at any time. Also no beverage cart at all. 3) I was later charged for greens fee because 1 of our foursome was a no show. The person at the register never questioned when we checked in so I figured it was not a big deal. I have definitely done this in the past without a problem but have now learned my lesson. It’s an average course, that I have not played in a long time, but since I grew up playing on it , I thought I would give it a chance. Needless to say it is my last time. There are much nicer courses that cost just as much.
Good value
Driving range, which is rare to warm up on. Fun lay out. Not terribly difficult but has some length and they keep it in good condition. Fun round. Took 25mins to drive from midtown Manhattan.
Solid track forgiving track with length and tricky greens
La Tourette: Always nice coming back to the first course I every stepped foot on. Course is in fabulous shape. Fairways and greens for the most part was lush. Even though my first time playing this year, its as good as I've ever seen it. Greens played soft and in great shape. Putts were faster than what I usually remember. Only drag was waiting on every hole on a late morning Wednesday. Due to La Tourette's "players club", this place gets a lot more play than before in years past. From the course perspective, its obviously better to sell more tee times.
Anyways, one of NYC's better design layout. This place has moderately wide fairways so its forgiving off tee shots. Playing from the back tees should challenge most low handicap players. This is after all where the NYC amateur takes place. FYI, not an easy course to get to if you don't drive.
Boring course, awful pace of play
This is one of the worst of the NYC munis. The course is boring. Every hole is wide open and straight, with nothing interesting about the holes, the greens, the bunkers, nothing. The pace of play is the worst. At every tee there where two other groups on the hole throughout the round. The course is nowhere near worth it. Avoid.
My first love...
La Tourette is one of the better NYC Municipal Courses. Like most Muni's, she has her bumps and her bruises, but for 4 hours (much longer sometimes) she can still captivate and delight you. She is very fair, giving as much as she takes. She's a good test for mid to high handicappers; long enough to challenge and generous enough to forgive. La Tourette is where I played my first round of golf, and where I plan on playing my last.
Best of the NY Municipals
Getting there is half the fun and the cost. It will cost you $16 to get across the Verrazano. Its worth it. From the Blue tees this is a big boys golf course at close to 7000 and long carries required. Best fairways in the muni rotation. Elevated tees allow for a grip it and rip it approach but you still need to be accurate as its a parkland course and the trees and deer are there to remind you. One of the few driving ranges where you can hit driver. Weekend rounds are 5+ hours but what else is new. It's a good test although a bit expensive compared to the other munis but you get what you pay for.
In great condition
Been playing this course for years and it's in the best condition I've ever seen. Kudos to the superintendent/staff. It's more expensive than the other New York City courses, but still worth playing. We had a great time. Foursome finished in just over 4 hours. That's fantastic by NYC municipal standards. Book a round.
Room for improvement
Tee boxes are not in good shape. Fairways and Greens are good pace of play was painful over 5 hours

I don't know how anyone gives this course a high rating. It is a boring, bland, blah of a course. Everything straightaway, and nothing special whatsoever about the greens or green complexes. There are a half-dozen other NYC muni's far better than this.
