Green was terrible !!
Excellent course But green was terrible never maintain past 2 weeks. need cut...
Great layout
Course is in great condition, fast play, beer cart out, bbq in turn, will put this course in my regular rotation!
Long and windy!!!!
Enjoyed the day, but course is on top of a mountain... Extremely windy and long!!!
Some wet spots but overall nice experience and value! Some yardages did not seem correct however...
First time out this season
Nice course and friendly staff what else can you ask for from a county course.
Potentially awesome...potentially
Hickory hill is a very popular municipal course set in the Catskills, and it’s easy to see why they were booked solid on a beautiful spring Thursday with the mercury topping out well over 60.
The course is a real challenge for the low handicapper, with 3 par 4s over 400 right off the bat. Shorter par 4’s are narrow with elevation changes. Three out of the 4 par threes are monsters from the tips, all over 200, including the 250 yard 14th.
The average golfer will find room for their game from the whites as you can get away with hitting errant shots, there aren’t heavy penalties to be paid for a 30 yard hook or slice. Approaches to greens are generally unprotected.
No one gets any slack on the greens. Every green seems to have multiple levels, ridges and humps . When the cut and rolled these greens (and of the troglodytes repaired their ball marks) could be among the best in the tri state.
The layout is great. Big swooping doglegs, snaky narrow par 4s, elevation changes and tremendous views make for a very pleasant experience.
Temporary tee boxes, below par maintenance and a careless clientele are this course’s downfall. REPAIR YOUR BALLMARKS. PLAY FAST. Very very few of us here are good golfers, but everyone can play quickly and take care of their golf course. Apparently the folks who come here can’t be bothered doing their part to maintain their muni.
I understand COVID19, spring weather etc., and sometimes temporary tee boxes are necessary evils, but you can still cut the grass. Rake and drain the bunkers. Maybe cut the greens.
Overall, wonderful layout, not adequately maintained, and played by folks who generally take no ownership and pride in their local. This isn’t a CC where people run around behind you to fix your ballmarks and fetch your divots - do it yourself. And the golfcourse could do a better job of maintenance. With those greens and a little TLC, this could be a a great track, one of the best county courses in the tri state.
I expected so much more.
Fantasy views and challenging holes but the condition of the course was poor and muddy. Also pace was very slow and there was no ranger to enforce people moving.
Great Track
First time there today, beautiful track with great pin placement. Gorgeous views and considering it rained for 3 weeks straight before this, everything was well cut and maintained. All in all a fantastic course that I look forward to visiting again.
Hilly course
Green well maintained few holes had very bad wet fairways and were cart path only.
Great Value, worth the trip
Fantastic vistas and very interesting layout. The undulations on the greens would make them very challenging in mid-season. A bit wet for us following a rainy week, but outside of a few holes it seemed to drain very well. Looking forward to playing again under drier and faster conditions. Staff was very friendly and accommodating.
The course was in good condition. The greens ran a little slow because they were not cut yet . The greens were a little tricky, Which made them a little challenging . It’s a hard course to walk. The fairways Were in good condition. The view was beautiful. The staff was very friendly.
Great 1st day of spring golf
Fun course with elevation changes. Finally got out to play after COVID-19 closings.
Course staff friendly and handled social distancing very well. Basic amenities available regarding food and drink. Range was open (irons only).
Tee boxes and fairways were good regarding turf conditions. Greens were very nice. Not slow yet not fast. Plenty of undulations that would be extremely challenging when they are fast.
Layout was fun. Well worth the almost 2 hour ride to get out and play golf. Price very fair. I would play here again.
Thank you.
Best Public Course Around!
Always love playing Hickory Hill. The course is in great shape, greens rolling true and the scenery is second to none. Nice driving range, two putting greens, delicous restaurant and stocked proshop. The staff sets this course above the rest. Always friendly and accommodating, makes for an enjoyable experience while visiting. Course is also junior golf friendly. Never experienced a golf course so happy to have the kids playing. The GM, "Dave" is an asset to this facility. Always takes the time to engage with the Golfers and to make sure they are enjoying their visit. Looking forward to spring when they open again! Thanks a million.
