Good course, could be great with a little TLC
In general the course is in great shape. But some of the tee boxes have been in disrepair for many years and it's about time they fixed them, especially on #4. In general, though, it's a great course and the staff are great!
Dangerous Course, Slow Pace, Posted Distances are Inaccurate
First time playing at Forest Park and will be the last. While the course is as busy as the other comparably priced courses, it plays slower. I believe part of the slow play comes from how dangerously close some of the holes are. Holes 9, 10, 11, 12, and 14 are incredibly dangerous because there is about 150 feet between the tee boxes and the greens all lined up . The group behind us had to yell fore, on what would be a good shot at another course, because they missed the green by about 20 feet left (they were on hole 11 we were teeing off hole 12). Finally, almost all of the posted distances are inaccurate and are much shorter than the posted distances on the signs. The positives of the course include: the course itself is really beautiful as the fairways, rough, and green are well maintained. The Tee Boxes are definitely worn down, but that’s no different than a lot of the other courses here.
Slow and Slower
This is an interesting course that is over 120 years old, one of the oldest in the country. It’s a really cool layout that’s fill with twists and turns that keep you on your toes. Greens are in very good shape, but the tee boxes are mostly dirt and so are the bunkers. The mature trees around most tee boxes have long ago stopped the sun from doing its job and it’s a same. If this course was in great shape it would be amazing. Also, the pace of play is absolutely horrendous. It’s overbooked!
Not the best NYC course but it’s getting better
Since Covid, the condition of the course has improved greatly, especially the greens. Some of the tee boxes are still basically a patch of dirt (which is unacceptable in my mind) but the fairways and rough are fair and the greens are now all in good shape. It’s a public course so of lot of inconsiderate a-holes who have zero golf etiquette don’t repair their divots and pitch marks but it is what it is.
Pace of play is always slow on the weekend but it’s still a fun course to play, short but with good challenges. Still my go to when I want to squeeze in a last minute round by myself or with a friend.
I play this course a few times a year. Staff is always so friendly!! Lay out is good and has a few challenging holes. Only bad thing are the tee boxes some are just dirt other then that is was a good round of golf with the cousins. I will be out there again. Hit’em straight!
Love this course
Nice layout excellent condition except for a few tee boxes. Pace of play typical for a Friday - slow
SLOWWWWWW
Do not play here. They seem to book tee times 7 min. Between eachother. This is by far the worst pace of play I have experienced in my life. Took 2 hours to play 4 holes. The only good thing was when I left mid round they refunded me.
