challenging course. Not for beginners though.
course condition is well maintained. It lacks proper directional signs especially when you finish hole 15. The next hole 16, is not adjacent to 15 and we ended up lost in the clubhouse and decided to end play since.its close to sundown.
Slow play understandable since we played Sunday, Oct 13, but ther should be a marshall to encourage fast play. They were hole were wd were three flights waiting to tee off.
Good thing I bought the tee time from golfnow.....
Good value for twilight golf game
Parking attendant was waiting to charge anyone near golf course area.
would probably think twice.
Not great value for the price.Very long time to play for such a short course. Many of the tee boxes need attention.Beverage cart came around once in five and one half hours.disappointed overall
Simple Track
Decent value for the money. Easy to access from Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. There are very few sand bunkers. The greens are INCREDIBLY slow.
Forest Park 9/10/13
Forest Park is a good course considering the amount of players that go there because of the location but the Tee Boxes and some of the greens could really really use some attention, no matter the skill level you should not be standing in mud when you are in the Tee Box
AVOID
FIRST OFF THE TEE BOXES ARE BARRON, HARD AS A ROCK. I LITERALLY NEED A HAMMER TO PLACE THE TEE. THE FAIRWAYS ARE ALL HARD PAN, GREENS WERE AERATED, SANDED SO CANT COMMENT. ALL IN ALL I WONT BE BACK.
very slow play
We played only 12 hole on 9/4/13 because 2 group ahead us was very slow, these 2 couples they did not play well enough to tee off from the blue tee!!!! after 12 hole we all quite.
Tee box and green very poor condition
Busy course; but fun to play despite the slow pace
I usually play at an assortment of public courses in Long Island including Bethpage Blue/Yellow/Green, Bergen Point, Crab Meadow, Lido Beach, and Spring Lake.
This was the first time I played a full 18 holes at Forest Park in many years. I would normally avoid it due to the fact that it always busy and has a notoriously slow pace of play.
I played on a Friday afternoon at 2PM just before labor day. The course was in pretty good shape for late summer. The tee boxes were a little beat up but not horrible. The fairways were in good shape. The greens were in terrific shape but very slow.
The pace was slow especially for the first 5 holes but then it picked up. It took an hour to play 3 holes (yes 3 holes!!!) and I was seriously regretting my decision, but the guys I was playing with assured me that after holes 4 and 5 things would get better. They were correct. Hole 4 is VERY narrow with trees on both sides and Hole 5 is a wicked dogleg right so things get very backed up on those holes. After that the pace got better and we finished the round in just about 5 hours. Not great but horrible.
The layout of the course is a lot of fun and was a good challenge for me. I usually shoot around 100 for a full 18 and on a good day I can get close to 90. The course had a nice mix of holes. On some you needed to be very accurate off the tee and on other you could swing for the fences because there were 4 fairways side by side by side with very few trees. Some the greens were a lot fun with multiple levels and some crazy breaks.
For someone of my skill level who has some time to kill, this course was a good challenge and a lot of fun.
The course is relatively short so I decided to walk with my pull cart. There were a couple of steep hills but I would definitely walk it again. It cost me $31 without the cart and it would have been $36 with a cart. Both were good deals. BTW: Golfnow offered the same tee time for $32 with cart. Once you add in the fees, it cost about the same as just walking up.
Not a bad deal for the price,
If you are looking for true greens and nice tee boxes, this is not the course. For the price through GolfNow, it was a nice afternoon playing golf.
The course has a woodsy appeal.
Great to come back and play this course as my brother was up from Florida - once you start it gives you the feel of a private course and the course won't disappoint. All kinds of different shots are required-cant wait to play it again.
The course does have its challenging holes.
Been playing it since the 70's- always liked it for the woods that surround it.Play the blues and the tight fairways come into play--even the shorter pair 4's--you have to make shots.Overall the course is in descent shape-the greens could use some work.Would recommend course to friends.
Close to home
For $28 riding and only 10 minutes away from home, the only thing to complain about is the slow pace of play. There were no ranger moving things along. The course is in decent shape considering the amount of play it gets but play there only if you have at least 5 hours to play.
Greens and tee boxes need serious attention
Tee boxes were thin out and hard five or six greens were in bad shape fairways were nice
Slow play, but fun experience
This course offers a fun experience. It offers plenty of opportunities to get good scores, but also features some challenges if you miss your line! Due to the various skill levels that play here, the round takes longer than 4 1/2 hours.
Nice!
Lots of trees to hide from the sun! I love it!!! One of my favorite! Oh and I'm only 12 minutes away!
Fantastic city course - best around NY
Really one of the best public courses available around NY and it's less than 10 miles from Manhattan. The course is challenging but not excessive. It mixes perfectly very long and more reasonable holes, the design is really amazing with a lot of trees. Condition of the fairways is excellent, condition of the greens could be better, they are irregular and it's difficult to get the rythm.
Beat up
Tee box plaques and scorecard yardages were way off, tee boxes really bare on a lot of holes. Cart paths need a lot of attention. Tee times were backed up at least a half hour-45mins. tons of unrepaired divots in the fairways and ball marks on the greens. Didn't see one players assistant / ranger the whole 5 hrs. on the course.
WAY TOO MANY GOLFERS EVERY WEEKEND
I played July 14(Sun.) 2013. It took me to finish more than 6 hours. There are always 2 or 3 teams waiting for every single hole wherever you go. Simply too many golfers at the course. And a lot of beginners are there also. They don't hit well and don't understand the game either. Every single guys ahead of me hit more than 5 to 8 times to hit the green and endless putting is an extra. Golf is about the pace and courtesy to other players. There is no ranger there to expedite their pace. This is a second time I had this month this delay. Don't go there at weekend. You'll be exhausted and frustrated. No more forest park golf course for the time being. I'll be back when the weather is bad.
Long day
Over booked and the staff was unfriendly. Saw the greenskeeper run over someones bag and say it was the golfers fault. He obviously was drinking all day and did not care. It took me 6 hours to finish a round and on top of that not all but many greens were not maintained well. Have played here before and usually is much better.
WELL MAINTAINED AND SOMEWHAT CHALLENGING
VERY NICE FAIRWAYS AND GREENS, LOTS OF TREES, SOME FRIENDLY SOME NOT. PROPER CLUB SELECTION CRUCIAL FOR SOME HOLES. SOMEWHAT SHORT FROM THE WHITE TEES BUT STILL A GOOD TEST OF SKILLS. TEE BOXES AND GREENS A BIT TO CLOSE FOR COMFORT. MUST WATCH FOR INCOMING SHOTS BUT ALL IN ALL A GOOD TIME WAS HAD.
