Quail Creek Golf Course
About
Quail Creek Golf Club is tied for being the most difficult public course in the St. Louis area. Designed by Hale Irwin, the course is laid across rolling hills laced with meandering streams. The layout requires accuracy with narrow fairways and hard-to-read greens. Water hazards come into play frequently as do trees and bunkers. It is a formidable test for any skill level. Most of the holes have a risk-reward element, making the course more accessible by placing an emphasis on strategy over strength. One of the most memorable holes is the par-5 ninth. It will favor golfers who successfully cut the corner, making it possible to reach the green in two. This tricky hole demands accurate mid-iron play. Quail Creek Golf Club finishes with an interesting par 4 that has water along the left side of both the fairway and green.

Gettin' better!
I play Quail Creek on a regular basis, at least once or twice a month. In 2018 I am seeing improvements everytime I play here. This course has a great layout and is very challenging. Not being a native St. Louisan, I don't know the history of this course but older guys tell me it used to be really wonderful when it was new (years ago). I have played it for about six or seven years and have seen it in terrible condition but last year and this year I have seen great improvements in the greens , the fairways and the overall maintenance. There is a long way to go, but the staff is obviously trying . There is a lot of work yet to be done on the traps and the cart paths (hold on to your kidneys in some areas.}. I like this course and will continue to keep playing here. I think the greens fees are a little steep for what you get, but, the layout is what I like about the course (and it's a short drive from my house} and I'll keep playing it.
Respectable
I have played this course in the past and swore I would not come back. It really surprised me today and I would play here again. Conditions are improving and it was fun to play on grass. The fairways were in decent shape considering our lack of rainfall, the greens were better than average and tee boxed were in fair to decent shape. Bunkers were a little dry and the cart path was bumpy in spots, but heck for the price, it's a bargain. Give it a try!
Course in better condition
Course was in better condition than expected. Grass on fairways was better and was more consistant.
Poor golf Course Condition
Very poor fairways and greens with dead spots and Ball marks that do not heal.
Not much better than before
I've played Quail Creek many times before this year and always found it to be lacking - very high price for the quality of golf and course conditions. This year was not much different, although I have to say the greens were in better shape and the fairways were okay. We played on the fourth of July and thank goodness we went through Golf Now for a tee time . At $21 plus fees it was a good deal for all of us. The holiday rate for the course is $45 and for that it really wouldn't have been worth it. There was not much activity on the course when we started at 8:30 AM and the play was not too bad for a holiday. We never had to wait for a shot. That said, the course conditions were murky - the fairways were not well cut or defined and the greens, while in better shape than in other years, still need some work. It was really hot (96, with HI of over 100) but with a breeze and overcast it was not really bad. Would I play there again - I don't know. There are a lot of courses that have a more reasonable rate and in better condition that Quail creek.
Heat wave
The course was in fairly decent shape, a little soggy in areas because of the rain the day before but nothing they could control. Greens rolled well and good pin placements. I wish the yardage was marked a little better, especially for someone who doesn't play it often enough. For the price and location I would probably play again.
Turing it around
Brought a group of 32 guys for a little tournament. Staff was awesome to work with. Found the recent reviews of the course to be dead wrong ... this place is definitely headed in the right direction. Yes, there are a few fairways that need a little more time to thicken up, but it's bermuda ... it's not going to be great to play on until the heat of the summer has kicked in!! The greens were fantastic and the rough is thick and mowed to a reasonable height. The ONLY negative thing I could point to is the bunkers ... there are 8 or 9 on the course that have been left unmaintained and are marked GUR. I'm putting Quail back on the play list for sure.
Pleasantly Surprised!!!
Living near Quail Creek has kept in in my rotation of courses. However, the struggles have become more & more apparent over the years regarding the course conditions. I had heard that the greens were in good shape & that the course was growing nicely. The Saturday morning price was more than fair & I was surprised with the course conditions. The rough wasn't too heavy, the fairways are starting to come in thanks to the recent heat & rain, and the greens are in good condition. There are a few damaged areas on some of the greens, but nothing too bad. Most of the issues are near the edges of the greens. I hope that the conditions keep up all summer long. Quail has a challenging layout that can make for a fun round.
The staff at Quail has always been great to deal with & they make you want to come back. Even when the course has been bad I've chose to play it because it was close to the house & the staff is more than accommodating.
The course was in better shape than last year
The staff was was very helpful and friendly...Thanks Alan good job you were very professional.
Not much better.
Our league used to play this course but moved because of the condition getting worse with no or little maintenance other than mowing. Had not played the course for a couple years. Things have not changed much. Little maintenance.
Time to give the course back to the county!!
I have posted a number of times about the lack of ability to turn this course around and give the citizens who live in St. Louis County a course they should and could be proud of. I play all over the country and most local municipal courses are doing well and have a solid financial base. This once great course has turned itself into the joke of St. Louis golf, once a proud tough layout is now a scrum of a course that makes pathetic excuses and apologies to the people that post on this page. The taxpayers of the county deserve more than a group that grows more grass in the bunkers than on the fairways, greens and tee boxes. I plan on contacting the county this week to find out what their current status is regarding the conditions of the course and how as taxpayers we are being screwed over by another group of lessees who have know idea how to run a golf course. Continuing to succeed in being pathetic should be Quail Creeks motto.
Needs woek
The fairways were in awful condition. Constantly had to move ball off of dirt patches to find grass to hit off of.
Quail Creek
The greens were in good shape but that was it. The tee boxes looked worse than my yard and so did the fairways. The sand traps no longer have sand, but overgrown grass. This used to be a great course, but obviously they are not putting money into this course anymore. I won't be playing here or recommending it to anyone until I see an improvement.
No grass
This course should be ashamed!! I cant beliwve they are taking peoples money. More grass in bunkers than in the fairways. No amount of money is worth paying.
Quail Nahhhh
Course is in terrible shape thus the low prices.....Fairways are dirt and bunkers are in better shape than fairways...
Not What it was
Has been several years since I played this course. In past great conditions not so this time. Main issue Fairways that we’re sparse. “Winter Rules” move ball to grass! Understand the cold spring but other area courses looking much better. Greens Ok and being treated day we were there. Think a bit pricey for conditions. Pace was great played 18 in just over 3 hr. Hope it improves.
This course has gone downhill
Bunkers were dirt and unplayable, the fairways were dirt with a little bit of grass, greens were ok, tee boxes were overgrown and dirt with little mounds of grass. This course was really good years ago. It has gone downhill so fast and the price for the course is just absurd. Either fix the conditions or lower the price.
