Quail Creek Golf Course
About
Quail Creek Golf Club is tied for being the most difficult public course in the St. Louis area. Designed by Hale Irwin, the course is laid across rolling hills laced with meandering streams. The layout requires accuracy with narrow fairways and hard-to-read greens. Water hazards come into play frequently as do trees and bunkers. It is a formidable test for any skill level. Most of the holes have a risk-reward element, making the course more accessible by placing an emphasis on strategy over strength. One of the most memorable holes is the par-5 ninth. It will favor golfers who successfully cut the corner, making it possible to reach the green in two. This tricky hole demands accurate mid-iron play. Quail Creek Golf Club finishes with an interesting par 4 that has water along the left side of both the fairway and green.

Not what it used to be
This course used to be one of the nicest in south St Louis County but it has fallen on hard times. Cart paths, fairways, tee boxes and traps are in bad shape. On most fairways you had to look for a spot to place your ball because there was either no grass or weeds. The greens are ok for now.
No fairways
Fairways were dirt, greens were very, very slow
Good thing was no one playing. I now know why
No fairways
All the fairways , with the exception of hole15 were laced with dead grass. And in some cases just dirt. Geese have overrun the course , & have destroyed the grass the bemuda is not working. It's not a grass that works well in this part of the country. Don't know why Hale Irwin designed the course with it. Put zoisia in to save the course. Right now it's ruined. Not even worth the $19 I paid to play. Very sad, because this course should be of the best in St Louis. Greens were ok & that's why i gave it a 2 rating. Otherwise it was between a 0-1
1st time out this year
Course was in horrible shape! No fairway and greens were fuzzy and not tended. I have played at end of season n found not playable but not in beginning of season. Won’t be back
thought it was redone?
Fairways lack grass, greens are like putting on carpeting, lack of care or no knowledge of course maintenance. Oh wait it is owned by the county. Never again.
Needs work
Second time I played this year. Gave it a pass first time, but can not the second. Fairways are terrible more dirt than grass. Tee boxes and fairways need water.
This course use to be beautiful
Years ago you had to book tee times weeks in advance. It’s oficially trashed. So much of it is burned up.
Do not play
Just like previous post fairways are terrible. Not just terrible they are worse than the rough. Front nine every green was covered with debris. The course layout is awesome and really hope they can get it back. Played from the golds and it played nice and long which was challenging but when you hit a wonderful tee shot then are hitting from dirt with no green to even find to move your ball too is pretty discouraging. Greens on back nine were better but slow.
Never Again
I played the course a couple times over the past few months, and thought maybe the weather has been kind of crappy and maybe it will be better when it warms up. Well here we are, the first week of May, and only one hole had full growth grass on it. 13 of the 14 fairways were basically dirt. If you would call them teeboxes, as they are marked for you to tee off, were apparently optional in terms of grass. I guess you could call them cartpaths, because they were that at one time, but the experience would have been better with off-road golf carts in this case. Bunkers... this was my first experience of playing a golf course that actually had grass growing in all of the bunkers. Shockingly, the greens are of adequate size and were in an 8/10 condition. We were considering getting our child who plays college golf a membership here for the summer for access to playing and range time, but the driving range tee boxes looked just as bad as the rest of the course, which would not benefit a collegiate golfer, considering the conditions they play on. The guy in the pro shop told us earlier this year that they would be getting cartpaths this spring, but I guess that has been put on hold or they have not started yet. In my opinion, the money they intended on spending on cartpaths, should be spent towards the course, fertilizer, sod, sprigging, etc. In conclusion, I played this course again in attempt to see the course in good condition with the good weather, and if I had not received the hot deal at the time, I probably would not have played it again. Chalked up as a lesson learned.
Overcharged
Booked on GolfNow for $35/player for 3 people (total of $112 with fees).Paid $12.25 in advance of going to course so was told owed $99.75 (or $33.25/person). Was charged $36.75 per person at the course. Course was in crappy condition. No grass on the fairways, patchy tee boxes. Would not recommend to anyone. Way overpriced. Much better courses in the area for the price.
Terrible shape
Everything was in terrible shape. The fairways were dirt!
Quail Creek
Tee boxes and fairways were not good. Most fairways don’t have grass on them and it’s just dirt. You have a better second shot if you can manage to hit your tee shot in the rough where the grass was at least grass.
Disappointed
So sad!
$31 for 18 and a cart.
Fairways are terrible, dormant, dry and dusty.
Sand traps, barren, dry and unkept
Several holes are have creek beds with concrete dumped in ravines-looks like the course has been flooded.
I don't know how they will improve conditions, we were one of four twosomes on the course and I know why due to the conditions.
I've played this course for years, great layout but the current greens fee is ridiculous. Better wait on this one, its falling apart. Where's Hale Erwin, he would be having a fit if he saw his design in this shape. Sorry, but this is the truth. Look it over before putting your money down!!!
BAD SHAPE
There are no fairways; maybe a few dead weeds. No exaggeration.
First Time Playing Course
Play was cart-path only. Back 9 was being aerated so played front 9 twice. Greens had just been aerated so we used 2-putt rule. Was pleasantly surprised at the shape of the course since had heard negative reviews from prior years. We would definitely play it again.
Course in rough shape
The course is in rough shape. At the time I played the course, only the front 9 was open. The greens were just core aerated and top dressed which made the greens really hard to put. The fairways had bare spots in them and clumpy. The course needs a lot of time to get back to a good condition.
Sad to see
The course has really gone down hill in the last 2 years, unfortunately the price has only gone up. I never play here unless it’s with a hot deal, otherwards not worth $30. Sad cause it’s one of my favorites and closest to home.
