About
Ballyowen Golf Club is an homage to the great Scottish links courses, the place where golf originated. The course sprawls across 250 acres of rolling farmland that overlooks the Walkill River. The layout tumbles through valleys and hills, staying as true as possible to the natural contours of the land. Much like a traditional links golf course, the virtually treeless landscape is accented with craggy knolls. The challenging layout features lush green fairways that contrast beautifully with the pristine white sand bunkers and golden patches of rough that border the greensides. There are also water hazards that come into play on five holes. Ballyowen has earned the title of New Jersey's top public course and Golfweek has even ranked it as one of the top 50 courses in the country.

Golfer Reviews
Not worth the money
Love the course but I haven't played for a few years and was surprised at the following:
* No GPS on th golf carts? Many holes can have blind tee shots and on 1 hole we completely aimed in the wrong direction.
* Golfers don't fix their ball marks on the greens...deplorable.
* Pace of play was NOT GOOD. Rangers drove by somewhat frequently but nothing was addressed. Threesome ahead of us was giving lessons to his wife/daughter...how does that happen? 5 hour round with $244 greens fee??
NOT WORTH THE MONEY...will be some time before I come back.
Overpriced
Was excited to play the ““best” public course in NJ”. So not worth the $250 fee. The conditions were municipal, at best. The sand traps are like concrete, the tees are a mess and the greens are a mess. Every cup was beaten up, dead patches and SLOW. While this can be blamed on weather conditions, my local 9-hole course at Hyatt Hills has the same weather and the greens are tour caliber right now even with the much more play.
We did get complimentary range balls, on “grass” tees but the tee area was a moonscape with downhill lies. Even the carts were lackluster. Go to Neshanic. A third the price, just as challenging and cared for with pride.
Did hear the complex just sold, but letting it go to this extent is an insult to golfers expecting what a $250 round should deliver.
Great layout
The course is amazing the greens were incredible and in great condition.
The golf carts were ancient and the pace of play was way too slow for a $175 round of golf.
Too slow, but otherwise a great course
Ballyowen is a really good course and provides a strong links course experience. Our round, however was not very enjoyable due to the really slow play. It took us 5 hours to complete our round and we had to wait on almost every tee box and every fairway.
Course is great but greens were bumpy and the bunkers have zero sand. The layout is great and fairways are in great shape.
Conditions
Recommend the coarse should have lawn mowers that pick up the grass clippings.
Spectacular
Always love playing this course!! Eagled the par 5 17th hole too!! Not an easy task!
One of the best in New Jersey
All around great deal through GolfNow hot deal great to play this course at a reduced price so worth it
Great Course
Hadn’t played it in several years but so glad I got back there. Course is outstanding.
Got a nice discount on GolfNow due to aerated greens. Course was nearly empty late on a Monday afternoon. Tee boxes and fairways in good shape. Some bunkers had very hard sand with pebbles and small rocks throughout. Carts were basic and lacked GPS, which was surprising since the 3 crystal springs courses at the lodge all have it.
Great Course
Great course a lot of fun to play. Very windy. The bag piper at the turn is a nice touch.
Beautiful course
This course had a great layout and was in excellent condition! Staff were very friendly. The place gives you a taste of Scotland/Ireland!!!
