A Tale of Two Extremes
My experience with this golf course has been a tale of two extremes. My first two visits were pleasant - helpful staff, decent course conditions, and solid practice facilities. However, my third visit and subsequent interactions completely soured my opinion.
I purchased a certificate (legitimately from someone who received it at a tournament) for 4 rounds of golf. Upon arrival, I was immediately treated with suspicion, with staff suggesting the certificate was forged. After providing verification details from the seller, a staff member wordlessly signed off "1 play" without explanation or courtesy.
The situation only deteriorated from there. I learned the certificate was legitimate but that the original recipient "shouldn't have sold it" (though no such restriction was noted). Staff members were visibly uncomfortable around me and appeared to be gossiping about the situation within earshot of my girlfriend.
Attempting to use the remaining rounds became a 3-4 month ordeal of unavailable tee times and new arbitrary restrictions (noon or later only) that weren't documented anywhere. When I finally escalated to the GM, instead of receiving understanding, I was essentially blamed for "throwing staff under the bus." The GM offered to help schedule directly but never responded to my follow-up.
Eventually, a staff member helped me book a tee time but tore up my certificate without asking if I wanted to keep it for the unused fourth round. The final visit was awkward, TW did come out and ask if I was taken care of, but still no apology on how they handled it. The rest of the staff members who previously had been friendly now avoiding eye contact.
The course itself is fine, but the customer service issues and the way they handled this situation make it impossible for me to recommend this club to others.
Fantastic Experience
My family is looking to join Stonehenge and we visited for an afternoon of golf. Despire the overly windy day we still had a blast and absolutely loved the course. It has several challenging holes, a great layout and is walker friendly.
I can't wait to join and look forward to playing the course again!
Great club
I have played this course several times and I have always been impressed. I have brought guests to join me for a round and they have joined the club.
Pleasant Challenge
I have gotten the opportunity to play at Stonehenge several times and it rarely disappoints. The conditions are always solid, with greens running close to a 10 on the stimp-meter, thick rough, and nice bunkers. The practice facilities are good and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. This is a private club, so you will need to play with a member.
The layout doesn't have any particularly special holes, but I do like the opening hole and finishing holes.
The first is a dogleg left, downhill (probably around 40-50 feet or so), par four with out-of-bounds on the left and right and fairway bunkers on the right side. The green is guarded by a moderately deep bunker on the left side. This is the kinda hole where first tee jitters could kick in and someone could end up with an 8, but most of the time, one should be able to safely escape with a par.
The finishing hole is a straightaway, slightly uphill, long par four (440 yards). The fairway is guarded by heavy rough on both sides and a fairway bunker on the right. The green is relatively flat and has bunkers on both sides. Again, nothing super special about the hole, but it does play right into the sun which highlights the natural beauty of the hole.
The tenth hole is also interesting as it plays straight downhill to a small green.
Overall, Stonehenge is a solid private golf course. The conditions are always pretty good and I am looking forward to my next trip out there.
