Halifax Plantation
About
This 18 hole championship course opened in 1992 and was designed by Bill Amick. The shady fairways are bordered by huge sprawling oaks and towering pines, nestled in the shadows of Bulow and Tomoka State Parks in Ormond Beach. The course features five elevated tee boxes and fast, contoured, highly manicured greens adequately protected by traps. A unique experience for the golfer who enjoys not only a challenge but also extraordinary scenery.

Halifax
For the money, the course was in horrible shape. Greens overall were good but fairways were terrible. Also, no Marshall and no three player group willing to let a fast two player group play through.
Will not play again
Avoid!!
Course is in terrible condition. Tee box, Fairways, rough all in nearly unplayable condition. Most greens were nice. I Played here in october and it was very nice but it needs major care. Charging 80$ and no warning of how bad the course looks was criminal. Do not waste your money. Tee to green looked like a cow pasture.
Needs some work
Greens were in good shape however the fairways, tee boxes and roughs are in bad condition and need some attention. When hitting on a clump of tall grass in the fairways is frustrating.
It’s not worth the price they are charging.
Not a great experience
Course layout is pretty good, but conditions leave a lot to be desired. Owners need to invest in improving conditions: this is a refrain from other reviews I’ve seen, and I was hoping for better. Greens were decent, but the rest needs quite a bit of work. There seemed to be a lot of expensive homes around/near course: the course is not helping the aesthetic value of neighborhood.
A tarnished Gem
Staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful. Practice facilities were easily accessible and in good shape. Course layout was challenging, but fair. Greens were in great shape. Not currently as fast as reported, but they rolled true. Lots of undulations and flags on ridges had your attention. Speed is key as misses past the pin often led to lengthy come-backers. Fairways were spotty…some areas need help. Tee boxes are a mess…don’t see them coming back without replacement, but if they get that back to par, this review (and many others I’ve read) would greatly improve. Will keep my eye out for this one.
It beats working
You can tell it was a well planned golfing community on the drive in. I expect most locals play at a private club since this is a public course now… not sure about the history here. The super had people working around golfers and they had top dressed all greens probably first thing in the morning which made putting tricky. Unfortunately the fairways were chewed up and full of weeds. I think they have had a very dry spring so maybe it will recover when they get more rain. Bunkers were a mess and hard packed unfortunately pretty much unplayable. I guess I expect too much from a public course in May so will say the chicken club sandwich at the turn with arnold palmer was great and the staff was super!
What a shame……
This place has really let itself go. The tee boxes were mostly overgrown, the fairways were spotty at best, and the rough was more sand and dirt than grass. The bunkers looked like they haven’t been maintained in a long time.
The greens and the areas around them were easily the best part of the course. They were on the faster side, rolled fairly true, and had a lot of undulation. The problem is that by the time you get there, you already feel defeated because of the condition of the rest of the course.
I honestly felt ripped off paying the $70+ weekend rate. I’ve played municipal courses in much better condition than this. It will likely be many years before I consider coming back, and even then, I’d still be hesitant.
A Struggling Gem
The course conditions are struggling with the drought. The fairways are patchy and the rough is sparse. However, the staff is doing 7 outstanding job. The greens are immaculate and the course is still well worth the price.
Definitely recommend.
Great greens
The greens were excellent. The only problem is the fairways weren’t quite grown in and a little patchy, but improve your life. The course is very playable.
Nice course
The course was nice could’ve been better. Tea boxes were rough and fairways needed some more work.
Fairways Unplayable
Nice greens and traps, but the fairways are unplayable. No grass.
Great conditions, but the setup and pace are major "bogeys.“
I’ve been playing the game for 40 years, and I have mixed feelings about my recent round here.
The Good:
The conditions are **good throughout the course**, from the fairways to the bunkers. The greens are impressively consistent—just be prepared, because they are **lightning fast**. The layout is excellent; it offers plenty of challenges that keep you on your toes, but it’s fair enough that you aren't completely penalized for a slightly offline shot.
The Bad:
Whoever set the pins today must have had the Masters on the brain. In four decades of golf, these were some of the most unfair pin locations I’ve ever encountered. On multiple holes, the pins were tucked on steep slopes. On one hole, I had an 8-foot uphill putt that passed the hole by only a foot, but then it caught the slope and rolled back down toward me. It stopped in front of me, leaving me with a 5-foot uphill putt for my next shot. It was one of several holes where the pin was on a severe incline.
The Ugly:
The pace of play was **atrocious**. It took 4.5 hours for our threesome to finish, even though we were following a twosome. In all the times I’ve played here, I have never once seen a ranger on the course. They usually have two cart attendants working; you’d think one of them could take a 10-minute ride a few times a day to check on the golfers and keep things moving.
It really makes me wonder where golf etiquette has gone. There is nothing more frustrating than inconsiderate players and a management team that doesn't monitor the pace.
Go for the conditions, but pray for better pin placements and bring a lot of patience for the wait.
Fairways, teeboxes, pace of play
Fairways are getting in sad shape, tee boxes are just bad, pace of play is not good no Marshall's to at least tell.players to speed up or at least do not wait until up front players have clear greens to hit their balls, par 3 are the exception.
