Callahan Golf Links
About
Callahan Golf Links in Waleska possesses a rich history of more than 150 years of farming and family ownership. Before being converted into a golf course, the site functioned as a farm from the Civil War until World War II. When creating the course, the natural beauty of the landscape was carefully preserved. As its name would suggest, the layout is a true links design with carefully placed pot bunkers and thick cuts of rough. Water is barely present but there are plenty of other challenges throughout that will quickly make you forget that fact. It is gentle enough for beginners but the back tees will challenge more experienced players. Golfers can also work on their short game on the chipping and putting greens or warm up on the driving range. The affordable rates make Callahan Golf Links an excellent value.

Legit course, fair price
The starter was really nice and the course was in pretty good shape. Greens were nice, as well as the fairways. The tee boxes were a little beat up but I will still be coming back.
Enjoyed !
Last time, enjoyed playing here. Moving to Myrtle Beach next Tuesday.
Ok value for the money
Course was extremely dry. Tees and Fairways are like playing off hardpan. Greens were surprisingly receptive and rolled ok. Not a bad design with some good hole layouts. Ok value for the money, but not a high end course. My expectations were higher for a plus 4 star rated course.
Good Course
2nd time I played. Course was in really good shape. Perfect waether, not too hot. Challenging, but fun.
The very definition of a muni
I play out at Callahan about once every 10-15 years, mainly as a last resort. With it being early spring, and the lack of rain over the last several weeks, the fairways were bone dry. Hitting from the light rough was kind of a blessing. The greens were also recently punched, so a bit rough but they look like they’d be decent otherwise.
The front nine is a little wonky, so it helps if you’ve played there before and know where you’re going. The back nine is the more enjoyable nine and my score certainly reflected that. All in all, Callahan works if you just don’t have a better option. Now that most golf courses want to charge $120 on the weekends, Callahan is a nice reprieve at around $70, but you get what you pay for. I’ll have to come back when we’ve had more rain and see if the conditions are better. The staff was friendly and pace of play wasn’t terrible. I think we played in about 4.5 hours. For a Sunday afternoon, that’s expected. If you live in the area and you don’t want to pay a fortune, Callahan works. It’s like a turkey sandwich thiugh. It doesn’t really excite you, but it satisfies your appetite.
Callahan’s overbooks the course
Callahan’s has overbooked the course, resulting in significant issues with the pace of play, especially during peak hours in the late afternoon. There is no marshal present to oversee the groups, which tend to play slowly and often bunch up into clusters of 6-8 players. I had to leave early because I reached the 5-hour mark while only being on the 16th hole. I enjoy playing this course because it's close to my home and reasonably priced, but they need to implement a more effective system, such as starting one group on the 10th hole and another on the 1st, to stagger the groups on the course. Additionally, they should limit the number of groups on the course to one per hole at a time to improve flow and reduce congestion.
When it’s good, It’s good
Got out at 9, nobody in front of us. Finished in 3:45 and was enjoyable. Course in fantastic shape for $50. If the pace of play was always quick, this course would be absolutely perfect because it’s not expensive for the quality. But those six hour rounds suck
1st of 2026
Course is in fine shape. It's just too early in the season so no fairway grass to hit from. Tight around greens. But greens were good. So early in the season it's not really the time to rate the course. Enjoyed the day of golf.
Soooo many 2-somes
Course is unique and interesting to play. Don’t be fooled by the yardage, it plays longer, especially when windy. Greens were in good shape. Overall, it’s a nice course at a reasonable price. The BIG PROBLEM, is that we were a 4-some, and there were about 12-13 2-somes playing. It caused us to have a 5 hour round because we let multiple groups play through (our choice to let them because we practice etiquette and didn’t want to be “those guys”). But, I put this issue on the course. Manage your tee times. Make 2-somes double up. It was unfortunate that their poor management impacted the enjoyment of our round.
Worth the green fees
The course was in good shape for this time of year. Everything was good with the exception of a very slow foursome in front of us. Great layout and friendly staff.
My favorite greens in the area
Course is in great shape. I just wish the players paid better attention to repairing their pitch marks. Come on guys! Do better. We dont need them going to Bermuda. Please! I implore you! FIX YOUR PITCH MARKS! It take 10 seconds.
