Lake Arrowhead Yacht & Country Club - Highlands Course

About
Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Highland Course at Lake Arrowhead weaves through rolling woodlands. Every hole offers unique scenery and stunning mountain views. The golf course was completely redesigned in 2008, which makes it one of Atlanta's younger courses; nevertheless it has quickly garnered a strong following amongst locals thanks to not only the challenging layout but also the affordable rates and beautiful setting. Lake Arrowhead's convenient location makes it even more appealing, it sits less than an hour north of Atlanta. The golf course features strategically placed bunkers and plenty of trees. It is a layout that requires careful course management. The 14th hole is arguably the most difficult. This tricky par 5 is known to test even the most skilled players.

In our rotation
Not clise, but worth the drive. Course is in good shape. #5 is really the only quiky hole. Staff is friendly, practice are is expansive.
Staff was amazing... golf community was very friendly and inviting.. course is tough, challenging and rewarding.. I will definitely be back.
Slow play.
Two young guys playing front of us, hitting many shots. One of the hole, they hitting 3 driver shot each. We're waiting right beyond of them. After first two holes, we have to wait 5~6 minutes every holes.
Hidden Gem
Had an awesome day at Lake Arrowhead. Staff was very friendly and course was in great shape and very challenging. Not a corse to bomb it off every tee box. A lot of strategy needed to play through this course. The fifth hole was a monster but fun. Will definitely be back.
Beyond beautiful
I've played some of the best courses in the U.S., and few rival this beauty. Exciting, challenging layout starting from the first hole. Every hole more stunning than the one before. Mountains as a backdrop on every hole. Pristine course. Sticky, but not slow Bent grass greens hold well. (Be sure to repair your ball marks) You can really go after the pin on these greens because your ball will check. A zillion friendly deer on the course. Spotted some wild turkey too. Fairways, greens and tees in superb shape. Super-friendly and helpful staff who you can tell take pride in this course. This is no cookie cutter course... the unique design of the course keeps you on your toes. An absolutely must play, must return course.
Great course!!!
Super unique!! Love the elevation changes!! Very scenic!! Highly recommend!!
The course is beautiful and the staff is great.
Course conditions are near perfect except for so many ball marks on greens that weren’t repaired and it leaves a lot of holes on the greens. The other negative is the golf carts have no power and cannot pull some of the grades without having your partner get out and push, this is unacceptable. Otherwise this course is beautiful!
Need Course marshals to stop extremely slow play
Absolutely amazes me that a twosome teeing off at around 11 o’clock could back up at Course so badly. Absolutely no golf etiquette whatsoever. would not let anybody play through and instead of a sub three hour around it was just over four.
The course itself is in OK condition but getting a bit rough around the edges especially around the cart paths leading on to the fairways. The greens are showing some wear with a lot of black spots throughout the course but still roll pretty good. A lot of improvement has been done on all the bunkers around the course which dog 100% better.
There are quite a few holes where are you are going over wasteland on your second or third shot so you might want to bring a few extra golf balls 👍. if the person in the clubhouse doesn’t let you know the pin placement make sure you ask the starter as some of the greens are pretty long and especially on number 11 you need to know as this is a three tiered green.
Overall a good experience except for the slow pay by the twosome but at least we finished before the rain came in.
Nice course and facility. Pace of play was way too slow. No Marshall on course pushing slow players. 5+ hour round of golf is not my thing.
I'm done
over played over priced too slow . I have played here many times over the years but this is my last. It is a long driver for not much fun. I had to endure 6somes and even a seven some and yes they all had bags and were playing.
Beautiful and Challenging
This course has some stunning views. It’s quite challenging especially for shorter hitters. Need to pick the correct tees. Opening hole is s little quirky in that shorter hitters are forced to layup to a waste area on a par 5.
Greens
Overall a beautiful and well maintained course, however greens had quite a bit of divots and rough patches on some holes. It was not like this about two months ago.
Solid Track, but tough
Pros: Everything about this place is awesome for the money. It's a little out of the way, but that is part of what makes it gorgeous. I would go back just for the deer. Seeing about 2 dozen fawns up close was crazy awesome and unexpected.
Great pro shop, facilities, carts, food, etc. Beautiful conditions with one glaring exception (see cons).
Super knowledgeable and friendly staff especially in the shop and the ranger (which IMO is quite rare, rangers are usually b-holes or too lazy to do the job right).
Cons: NO ONE fixes ball marks on this course. It would be IMMACTULATE if there weren't 50 (FRESH!) craters on every green. Luckily the greens are professional, large, and can take a beating. The divots didn't affect me too much but I was playing like Fido's behind and would not have scored well anyway.
This brings me to my other con - the cart boys. I am literally in my backswing for my only real birdie put of the day when two of them came screaming down the path tires squealing and rubber burning (still made the putt ;) though). I was there several hours and never saw a cart boy who WASN'T just full on lounging in a cart or disrupting play. Why not have them fix the divots if all the members are too old/lazy to bend over and fix them???
Would be 5 stars all the way across if the members took care of the greens and cart boys didn't squeal tires in your backswing, but that part may have been an isolated incident. I was a cart boy in my teens for a while too and I was an idiot.
Bottom line - I am going back for sure. Compared to the other courses in the area, you won't find better value. Cherokee County's courses are crazy overpriced as a general rule.
Rude staff member in the clubhouse
Very disappointing start with the staff member checking people in.Just plain rude and no Customer service. Not sure what happened with the lady and gentleman who I have felt with in the past but this person sure can’t fill their shoes.
The starter was very courteous as always and the course and greens were in good condition.Pace of play was good and the group ahead of us let us play through.
Lots of blind shots and carries over waste ground on either your second or third shots.Would recommend if playing here for the first time to try and play with someone who has played here before otherwise you might loose a few more golf balls that usual.
Fun course but they need to do something with the person checking people in.
Great value course
Played in 3 hrs 20 mins
Greens were a little slow, but in great shape.
Got lots of rain this year, so everything is green and beautiful.
This is a mountain course, so there are areas where rock and clay is exposed on the edges of the fairways.
Very friendly staff.
