Shalimar Pointe Golf Club
About
Located along the shores of Choctawhatchee Bay, Shalimar Pointe Golf Club enjoys a scenic, rolling landscape dotted with trees. This often-overlooked golf course has been considered one of the Emerald Coast's best-kept secrets but the word is beginning to get out. The course, due to its challenging but playable nature, has been used for U.S. Open qualifiers and it was host to the Emerald Coast Tour. The layout features immaculately manicured greens that are framed by strategic bunkering and water hazards on a number of holes. The golf course is challenging but fair with five sets of tees to accommodate players of all skill levels. The course is Shalimar Pointe's main attraction but it is complemented by extensive practice facilities including an expansive driving range, putting green and chipping green.

GREENS NEED HELP
THE GREENS ARE IN TERRIBLE SHAPE. THEY NEED TO DROP THE PRICE FOR A ROUND UNTIL YOU CAN GET THE GREENS IN GOOD SHAPE. I FEEL LIKE THIS COURSE HAS BEEN IN ROUGH SHAPE FOR THE LAST COUPLE YEARS.
Summer Heat
The humidity is brutal this time of year along the Gulf Coast. There were quite a lot of browning on the greens and fairways. I hope the water pump isn't broken. Two weeks ago everything was green and plush. The dryness didn't affect playability or putting though. Greens were pretty fast.
Poor Condition
First time i have played this course since they re-worked their greens a few years ago. The greens are not good. Lots of large dead spots, slow speed, bumpy. Otherwise there are a lot of dead spots in the fairways, etc. I drove over an hour to try it out and was very disappointed. As always the staff there is great.
Not worth the money
It’s a ok course, the rough isn’t maintained the greens are slow but true and there’s just too much sand in the fairways
Bahia Grass
Long Bahia grass growing all around the course. Cart path was normally right in the middle of the fairway.
Charged me an additional $20 to have my wife ride in the cart with me on the goat ranch!
Eghhh so so
At first glance the club house was older but nice and staff was very polite. The course could use some maintenance. You can tell it’s a neat layout and used to be a very nice course, but has been neglected. There were weeds everywhere and the greens were partially burnt up and dead. Would not make the drive from Destin to Shalimar to play again.
10/10 would NOT recommend playing!
Nothing about this course was good besides the food. Cart paths were made of sand and most of the course didn’t even have a cart path anyways. Fairways were dried out and it just poured yesterday. The bunkers were poorly maintained and so were the greens. If you ever decide to come to this trashy course make sure everybody has their own set of clubs or else you will get a talking to from the owner and he will kick you out or make you spend 200 extra dollars to rent clubs so he can pocket the money.
Not the best. But for price while on vacation isn’t bad. Greens were overall good shape though.
Won’t go back!
I wouldn’t go back and play this course, but others may like it! Wasn’t my cup of tea. Course is old and it looks it! Fairways are a mixture of dirt and grass, and hard whatever! Layout is kind funky, and if its your first time playing good luck. For the price, back home in Georgia, this would be a $30 course, we paid $71, which sorry to say, isn’t worth!
FL Panhandle Golf
This time out it was very humid. Summer is here, not so much the heat but the humidity. Bring extra gloves to swap out and “Towelie”. Course was good, fairways are nice and green, but if you stray off the fairways, may be difficult to recover. Greens were slightly bumpy but still nice. Uphill putts were slow.
Still had a great time.
Great course and Jeff the staff guy was awesome
The greens were in great shape and held true to line when putting fairways were decent and the only down side that I seen was a couple of tee boxes that were not flat besides that it was a awesome lay out
John from Arkansas
Potential to be a Gem
I was greeted kindly by staff, course was wide open when I arrived. Immediately disappointed by the fact that I couldn’t hit Driver or Woods on the driving range.. only because I had just cut down my driver and 3-wood.
Bottom line- the layout of this track is awesome. It has some holes where decision making is key. It has some holes where you can let it rip.
But the condition of the course was frustrating at times. Many overgrown spots on the fairways. Then some were like hitting off concrete. The greens were not consistent in speed. If they cleaned the course up, and put some extra time into the rough edges, this place would be an absolute gem of a track. Worth the $50 or so I paid to play. I may be back at some point but I think paying another $20-$30 to play a much better manicured course is the play for me next round.
Fun Golf Round; Rate Reasonable
The course conditions were very acceptable. Yes, there were a few thin areas on the putting surface, and a few thin/bare/sandy spots on the fairways. Aprons/fringe around the greens were in very good condition. Overall, I'd recommend this course to anyone looking for a fun track without having to spend a lot of money. The layout is interesting and the course overall challenging. The greens have lots of character, but do roll a bit on the bumpy side. Pay attention to the grain to manage the break, and in particular, if you're putting against the grain and uphill, give it extra!
Very Nice
It had been a while since I played at Shalimar Pointe. The course was in much better shape than last time. Very enjoyable.
Great Layout! Rough Greens!
I really loved the layout of Shalimar Pointe. I took my 4 year old son out to play with me and he had a great time.
The pace of play wasn’t too bad. We had a quick front 9 and then got stuck behind a group of 4 on the back that wouldn’t let us play through.
The layout was a ton of fun and there were a lot of fun holes with different risk/reward quirks. The greens however were nearly unplayable. I don’t think I’ve ever played on slower, fuzzier greens than these. Hope they get that sorted quickly because the rest of the course was a lot of fun.
Beginning Golfer
Had a great time here, played 18 solo on vacation for a really solid price of $47. Greens were solid with some rough areas on some holes.
This course is not Augusta, Some reviews here act surprised when they realized that. When we first arrived we were met with excellent service from the pro shop staff. The carts were in good condition with range balls free for every person. The course overall is in great condition considering the lack of rain in the previous weeks. Fairways are in good shape with only a few bare spots here and there and avoid the rough if you can as they are a little beat up. Greens were a little long and some better than others but for a course you can play at a hot deal for less than $50 a person it was perfect. Pace of play was great as we finished 18 holes in under 4 hours. Like mentioned this isn’t Augusta, but if your looking for an easy course that’s worth the money this is definitely the course, and I would highly recommend to play again.
