Squaw Valley Golf Course - Apache Links Course
About
The original Squaw Valley course, Apache Links, opened in 1992–a Jeff Brauer design that is open on the front and more densely wooded on the back. Brauer’s work involved bringing in dirt to provide some mounding to the flat terrain, and he placed the course along a scenic creek that comes into play, mostly on the back.
No. 9 is the best hole on the front because of its split fairway. Macho men can go for the green by aiming over the lake–otherwise it plays a pedestrian 362 yards if you choose the left side, where it doglegs around the lake.
On the back, Nos. 15 and 16 are back-to-back par 4s that you’ll be glad to get out of the way. The 15th rolls 462 yards and doglegs right, requiring a tee shot over the creek. The long approach is especially challenging due to the long row of trees at the corner of the green. Hole 16 features an elevated green above Squaw Creek. Play for position off the tee because the hole is not long.

Slow play
They always have slow play on weekends. A twosome in front of us was sharing one set of clubs and were very bad golfers. They kept having to take turns hitting and putting and pass the clubs back and forth. Also took a lot of mulligans while holding everyone up.
Both courses looking great!
I played both courses this week. Monday was the lakes and it looks so much better than a year ago! Tuesday was the links, always in great shape. Everyone is extremely friendly and accommodating. I use golf now app and it cost me $6.00 to play Tuesday!
Squaw Valley Links Course
I wanted to share some feedback regarding my recent visit to Squaw Valley with my son. I played the course about a year ago and had decided not to return due to the poor condition of the greens at that time.
Before our visit, I called to ask which 18-hole course had the better greens, and the pro shop recommended the links course. Upon our arrival, the pro shop staff was not very welcoming or friendly. While they may have been having a difficult day, a more hospitable greeting would have been appreciated.
However, I was very pleased with the course itself. The fairways on the links course were in outstanding shape. The tee boxes could use some leveling but were in fair condition, and the greens were also in fair shape. The greens were a 100% improvement compared to last year. I understand there has been a change in management personnel, and it certainly appears that these efforts are working.
Great get away
Nothing bad to say about the course, fairways, greens and tee boxes are all in good shape. The only thing I think needs work are the bunkers.
