Course not maintained
None of the front 9 flags were in the holes so guessing was needing for greens.
Course hasn't been maintained. Fairways are more like rough and havent been cut.
Tee boxes havent been cut.
Greens havent had a water so big cracks in
Extremely Disappointed
After hearing good things about this course I was excited to see what the course was like. However, when we began on the first tee we were extremely disappointed.
The tee boxes were full of weeds and very poorly maintained. The fairways looked like they hadn’t been mowed in months so it was hard to tell what was the fairway and what was the rough. Hitting anywhere outside the fairway and your ball was lost. The greens were extremely dry which was surprising as it had been raining the full week before we played. There were dry patches on the grass and cracks in the ground.
The bar area was good enough and there was a nice outdoor seating for a beer after the round. However, there was no one working in the pro shop at all and only seemed to be one member of staff working the whole place.
Wiltshire golf & country club lakes course
Course was not in a great condition, greens were awful and fairways needed a cut.
It appears that it has been kept to a minimum standard, the green were rock hard bone dry, bunkers were rock hard and stony, I expected more
A course on life support
First visit for around 10 years. Unfortunately it’s a course that just looks destined to close. Probably in a downward spiral of lack of investment so the members leave, visitors don’t come, investment drops even more and so the circle continues. Fairways and tees had probably not been cut for around 2 weeks making it difficult to find your ball even on the fairway. Either the sprinklers don’t work or they e turned them off to save money - greens (should I say browns) were burnt to cinders, had weeds and daisies all over the place. Bunkers left to ruin had no sand, plenty of grass growing and ironically a rake in every one! A balmy summer evening and there was us 2 and one other pair playing. I suspect it will be closed all together in the not too distant future. Very sad.
An average course
Nothing wrong with this course. Yes it's a little rough around the edges and the bunkers are like concrete but you get what you pay for
Appalling ,, but could be SO good if money and time were spent
Such a poor condition of course. No way worth £35 and £35 for a buggy? 😳
Needs a lot of TLC , fairways and greens a mess .. particularly greens ..
Not one bunker was playable, either grass growing in it or pure grit.
This could be such a good course
AVOID.....They need to spend money on the up keep of the course
The course lay out is really good some challenging holes but they have not spent any money on maintenance the fairways are long with daisy's all over them I lost balls on the fairways as I couldn't see them.
The greens were ok they've been cut but not very smooth, not worth £35 AVOID
Poor effort by owners
Fairways not cut almost like rough, around certain greens has been dug up and left. This could be a great course with some effort put in. As it stands I don’t recommend this course, there are much better around the area for same price and cheaper.
Good Course - No investment
The layout of the Wiltshire is great and the course has great potential. The problem is that there seems to be no investment. The bunkers are shocking and the grass although cut isn’t kept great. Greens were fairly good and true. There are areas on the course which have or being dug up without any GUR or management.
For the money it’s a good option but don’t expect the quality of a County flagship course.
Looking tired
The Hotel and clubhouse looked deserted , have stayed there many times and have never seen so few people
.The course was in reasonable condition but rather rustic with damage around some of the greens
The course has always been a favourite of ours so it was a bit of a disappoint to us
Poor maintenance
The course is in a very poor state of repair, with many of the green perimeters looking like they have been ploughed! Poor grass cutting- the course is dry so there is no excuse . Poor bunkers that have not been maintained or raked . Generally poor !
Great Course Needs Some Work
The course layout is good and a challenge, however unfortunately the club house seems mid renovations, no pro shop, halfway hut abandoned, tee boxes are not looked after, the greens are quick if you can avoid the odd hole, the fairways are cut but you don’t get any run as it’s not short enough, the bunkers have what looks like building sand with small pebbles in them, we didn’t risk hitting out of them, some where solid sand.
Abit of love and care and could be a great course, I did read somewhere it’s just been bought, so hopefully it’s in the process of returning to its former championship condition.
Wet and muddy
Wet and muddy. No apparent course maintenance. Some holes have features. Could have been great course if course maintenance improved.
Sad to see this course deteriorate like it has..
Have played this course over the past 15-20 years and decided to give it a try as had a free afternoon with son….in short I can’t believe they charged us for this experiance. Fairways with crater cuts throughout, greens that are crow pecked and not cut ……so that you can’t put anything …..
Such a shame, but this course is truly aweful now and would advise anyone thinking of playing to look elsewhere …..a waste of time and money.
Not great!
Course condition was extremely poor! Fairways had 2cm trenches on them (I had 2 balls fall in them) Greens were no better, burnt out, holes in them, dying grass. Such a shame as the layout is really good. Would not be returning unless serious work was put in to the condition.
A course that need a bit more TLC
The lakes course probably used to be really good in its day - it is well laid out, and contains good challenges throughout the round. It is unfortunately not in great condition any more, with more maintenance/upkeep needed.
That said, probably because of this, the price of the round is very good value and the course was quiet on a Saturday afternoon, so perfect for a training / warm up round with no pressure of other players behind or in front of you.
The clubhouse/hotel complex similarly gives off vibes of "faded glory". On paper they have fantastic facilities, but they are currently in a bit of a shabby state.
Overall though we enjoyed it and would come again.
Needs some TLC
Definitely better options for the price point in the area. Some interesting holes and very attentive staff. It had the feeling like someone thought it was a good idea to build a golf course and thought that was all you had to do.
Poor conditions
Despite the guy at reception being very nice, the course conditions were pretty poor. Dry and rough tee boxes. Bunkers made with pebbles and stones, not sand. Very deep holes in the ground in lines. Just wouldn’t go back or recommend to someone else.
Very disappointing
Very disappointed with the course, in very poor condition, fairways not cut, quite often difficult to find ball on fairway. Greens poor, lumps of cut grass lying over some and bare patches. No yardage markers.
shocking waste of money
the course was shocking.peter allis would be turning in his grave if he new what they have done to his course it is not worth 5 pounds a round i would like my money back if that was possible i paid 70 pounds for 2 players it was like playing on a farmers field
