Looking back down to the 5th Tee Box Photo submitted by rattusnorvegicus1v on 09/28/2020
Lovely course just needs some bunkers
Only one complaint Got charged twice £75 3 players but two £75 came out on my bank card
Greens need some love
The greens took a while to get used to. They hadn’t been rolled at all. I’d describe the grass length as what the fringe would be on a typical course. With my 06:00 tee off, I was on course when a tractor was coming round and dumping gallons of water on the greens in a single load. Combined with the length of the grass, the greens were slow and bobbly and was definitely a contributor to a slow start.
Quite often fairways would be broken up by deep ravine’s crossable by mini bridges. One caught me out on the first hole as I tried to go over it from distance, but came up short in the ravine for a drop. There were some blind pins and steep hills in places. On one steep hole where the pin was elevated above my head, I opted for a 9 iron on the approach worried it wouldn’t carry. Turns out I needed a shorter club length and lost my ball over the back in bushes for a drop. These little nuggets of course knowledge are only learnable once you’ve played a round!
The long par 3s felt LONG. With three between 175-195 yards, there’s not much respite from the up-and-down longer holes.
The tee boxes have been neglected and are in dire need of seeding and a groundsman. That said, this isn’t the first course I’ve played this summer where the tee box has been sacrificed for water on the greens. At £20 a round, there won’t be a bottomless pot of cash for maintenance. There’s not a single bunker on the course, just remnants of what was a bunker before. Again, I imagine their maintenance costs have led them to be abandoned.
Brinkworth; 1st Visit
17.0 H/C golfer
Poor condition course, greens not cut and bumpy; the tees have never seen any water.
The layout is OK, and the bar staff friendly.
If you are a golf beginner then I suspect it’s worth a visit.
If you are a regular golfer, then stay away.
Value
The course for the price is amazing, great greens, some damage but nothing major or in the way, a lovely day out. Fairways could be be slightly better but still a great time
Brinkworth
Lovely course and very reasonably priced. Friendly staff.
A point to work on would be the greens were quite dry. But overall course conditions were good.
Great course on a budget
Lovely place to play good environment and views from higher up holes.
Nice staff challenging course but very forgiving at the same time.
April on my own
Lovely cut fairways and tidy greens. Lots of drainage channels which makes it slightly tricky. Great value for a high handicap golfer
Do not play when its cold
In hindsight I would have gone on a warmer day but my usual course was closed due to the cold weather and some other courses were fully booked, thought we would give it a go.
Simply the greens were like concrete. Drop a ball on the green waist high it would bounce ti just below your knee, play a shot from 100 yards and it was carnage.
I will return as I think there are some interesting holes and they are developing the course which makes it interesting gave up having a decent score on the front 9 and we just scrambled for fun on the back 9.
What I would say (which is not weather dependant) is the scorecard identified a driving range. When i asked actually its not a driving range… you would be sending and collecting your own balls, no nets for warm up, chipping and putting green is a myth…
Great value for money.
Excellent option for 18 holes for around the £20 mark. Very friendly staff.

You really do get what you pay for and for the price it’s a decent course with good facilities
First time and wont be the last
Great course with friendly staff. Was worried after reading some reviews but course was better than I expected. Fairways were a little hard and some of the greens not in great condition. Weather hadn’t helped though. Overall a good course with some interesting holes.
Greens aside, a decent course with forgiving fairways.
For £20 I can’t complain too much.
I was a bit concerned about the course after the first few holes and upon seeing the greens.
But the holes and their charm improved as I went round.
Whilst the greens aren’t great. They are decent enough to get good practice in.
Very good course and forgiving
Very good course- forgiving but also challenging in places - the staff are excellent and would definitely play there again
Brinkworth is a good layout that requires a range of shots. I have played there three times this year. The tees and fairways are in good condition but the greens have suffered through lack of water.
The staff on and off the course are fantastic, friendly and polite.
Greens
The fairways are in brilliant condition but every green needs some attention to them but they are the worse greens we’ve ever had here and been play here for years !!
Great value course with interesting layout
I’m a 15 handicapper and a member of Cottrell Park in Cardiff, when away with work I look for local courses to have a knock in the evenings without breaking the bank.
Paid £20 for 18 holes at Brinkworth without high expectations on course conditions. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, the course presented a nice challenge with a mixture of long holes and shorter, but tricky holes. Was nice to have to think about what club to take off the tee, definitely don’t need Driver on half the par 4s.
Greens were a bit slow and patchy, but wasn’t expecting anything else for the price - fairways were in good condition and rough was a fair challenge. Would definitely go back for another round there if I’m in the area again.
Lovely Course & Friendly Staff
