Golfer Reviews
Speed of play
When we played on Sunday October 18, 2026, they had a frost delay on the course. Furthermore, when we got there, our teatime was pushed back 20 minutes. That was certainly understandable. However, they also told us that they just over seated the course and it was Golf cartpath only. There was not a 90° rule or anything. So, if the cart path was on the left and hit your ball to the right, you had a very long walk to get to it.
What was most frustrating was the pace of play we quit after nine holes even though we paid for 18 and it took two hours and 45 minutes to play nine holes. As one can imagine every single tea box was backed up. When I went into inquire if I could get a refund for paying for 18 holes, the staff said that the course is owned by the city of Lexington and they do not offer refunds only a rain check. I found this quite disappointing.
If I’m ever back in the area again, I will play the course again just hoping that there’s not so many rules to have to abide by.
Bad Timing
Played a few days after they had scarified and reseeded the fairways, so conditions were poor. Greens were in fairly good shape and quick. Bunkers were in extremely poor shape. Overall, not a good experience for a course, that I imagine, was a really nice Dye designed course.
They don't care.
Nasty tee boxes, Fairways, rough, bunkers and greens. They blame the rain. The rain somehow stopped them from removing weeds from flowerbeds and bunkers. Course was once the standard in Lexington. Hope they get back to where they belong.
Great Value.
Kearney Hills is priced right especially for military vets (thanks for the discount). The value for a round of golf on a week day was very reasonable. We rented one set of clubs and a cart - again, all reasonably priced.
The condition of the course was rough. Especially some of the fairways. Greens were OK. Maybe it’s just the transition into fall… the course could use some work. Also, signage directions to get he next tee are non existent. Also, only saw one distance marker on a fairway… there may have been more and we just missed them.
We will come back based on their location and value. AND there is a DRIVING RANGE.
Course is in terrible condition I’m a golf course superintendent and I would be ashamed if i was in charge of the course the city should be ashamed to have a great golf course design like this and have it look this away
The greens were great. The fairways were in very poor shape.
Golf with friends.
Played the course many times over the years and it was always in great shape. This year it was not good at all. Fairway's were burnt up and greens were not in good shape. Bunkers were terrible. I hope these issues are addressed.
Went down hill
Course was in awful shape. Ruts in the fairway, bunkers were non existent, grass patches in the bunkers. Staff didn’t act like they wanted people even there. Every fairway was dead. Rough wasn’t consistent, was very patchy. Greens were in decent shape but as it is with most courses people don’t know how to fix ball marks. Very disappointed in this visit, been a couple years since I played here was the best course I had played years ago, now wouldn’t pay 20 dollars to play here.
Cart path only
Pete Dye really knows how to build a course. It had rained a million inches the previous week and this course was in terrific shape. The greens were as challenging and fast as usual. There were VERY few super soggy areas. I hit my irons and driver above average heights and I had no plugged lies and ball marks were easy to manage on the greens. Speaking of the greens, they are really tough. Dye loves HUGE greens. I am a fairly good putter and had three three putts, all on the front nine trying to figure out how fast the wet greens were.
This place is a real gem. You should try it if you haven't.
Not what we expected!
Green was not in the best condition. If ball goes anywhere out of fairway , lost! Grass way too high. Cart paths have some really bad areas that are BAD. Wouldn’t take a lot to get course to better class shape! Work! Also some paint around the place make it look cleaner. Looks like it’s on the brink of closing!
Great course
Little windy and cloudy on the front 9 but beautiful day on the back 9, will definitely come back and play this challenging course again, the rough was a little high but we’re not supposed to be in the rough, right 😎
