A closed golf course off the coast of Maryland gets new life with a radical concept that emphasizes getting to the holes, not getting the ball in them.
If you like seaside golf, the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Delaware is your ticket. There aren't a hundred golf courses here like there are in Myrtle Beach, but the quality is just as good if not better, albeit perhaps a little more expensive. Best of all, though, for those who live in the big cities of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, it's convenient.
With coastal views, coastal cuisine and some golf courses designed by big name architects, the Eastern Shores of Maryland and Delaware is luring an increasing number golfers from the hustle and bustle of the big eastern cities. In a sense, the Ocean City/southern Delaware coast area is the Myrtle Beach of the northeast. There aren't as many courses, but the quality certainly rivals Myrtle and then some. Oh, and there's something else: Nowhere are you likely to find a better crab cake!
Two distinct waves of upscale public golf have left Ocean City, Maryland with more reasonably priced, high-end choices than any coastal resort north of Myrtle Beach. In addition, with night spots such as tourist destination Seacrets, and many quality restaurants open throughout the year, there's plenty of off-course activity on the Delmarva coast.
Playing at Eagle's Landing Golf Course in Ocean City, Md., can be a singular experience, especially when riding over marshland between holes. The only noise is the clatter of the cart bridge as you roll from green to tee, checking out the sunset, the wildlife or another unique view of one of the extraordinary holes. And even if you deposit a ball or two in the cordgrass, it's worthwhile to disengage, take a peek in all directions and enjoy what makes Eagle's Landing memorable.

About 45 minutes from Ocean City, Maryland, Baywood Greens is the kind of golf course that garners a lot of discussion from those who play it. First of all, a large portion of the club's sizable maintenance budget is dedicated to horticulture and the thousands of flowers found throughout the course. On top of that, course conditions are superb. And thirdly, the course is a tale of two nines, highlighted by holes that have an island fairway, island green and island tee box.

Designed by Arthur Hills, The Links at Lighthouse Sound is one of the most visually stunning golf courses in the Ocean City area. It's also a tale of two nines. The front side is laid out along Assawoman Bay, with several views of the Ocean City skyline, while the back nine (starting with nine actually) meanders its way through a marsh and mature hardwoods. It's also where you'll find the longest cart bridge in America, at nearly 1,500 feet, bridging the two sides of the course.
Opened in 1997, Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links is one of the Ocean City area's favorites for locals and visitors alike. Designed by Pete and P.B. Dye, the golf course sits on Sinepuxent Bay overlooking Assateague National Seashore Park. The seaside location translates into water, bunkers and bayside views on nearly every hole.
