About
Although it is tucked away just north of Hampstead, Castle Bay Country Club will make you feel as though you've been transported to the British Isles. The golf course offers an authentic Scottish-links design that incorporates the natural wetlands of its coastal Carolina location, giving it a truly unique character. The landscape of rolling dunes is covered with native grasses but completely devoid of trees. Tall sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout and there are also expansive waste areas, both characteristics that are true to its links nature. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Accurate shot placement is the key to doing well on this course and just like any seaside links layout, the coastal breezes play a prominent role. Much of the difficulty of the golf course comes from negotiating with the prevailing winds.

Great course
It was November when I played and a cold day. Grass was dormant but I know its beautiful during the summer. Even though it was cold it was a very fun course. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. I will definitely play again
Tee Boxes Need Updating
The tee boxes are hard to identify. The color of the box is on small tees, close to the ground; you can't identify until you're up at the tee. There should be clear, large labeling. Better tee color signage, Overall, we were pleased with golf course and had a great time. It was not expensive. Dave in the pro shop was very helpful providing local restaurant options. We'll go back.
Great layout and greens were in really great shape despite being aerated recently. Played in less than 4 hours. Friendly staff and overall great experience!

Great course!
I play Castle Bay frequently. One of my favorites in the area. Greens are playing a little slower right now, so that's a good thing.
Fun challenge and great people!
I have played many courses in the area and this is one of my favorites! Love the different levels of challenge depending on the tees you select to play from, but above and beyond love the staff and culture they have created. They really make you feel at home!
So if you are looking to have a day of leisure, or want to go push on your handicap, this is the place to go. Never have a problem getting a tee time.
Just wish it were a little closer, or I would be out more!

Nice Course. Fair Layout
I have played here many times over the years since it first opened. It is an open, links-style course. So, expect some wind here. There is a nice variety of shots. The price is less than the courses to the south. It is well worth it to go north of town.
Right now, the greens are fast and smooth. The fairways can be a bit thin in places. Given its location, there are areas that are frequently wet/soft. It is very good shape for the fall.
Slow, slow, slow
Pace of play was terrible. We had 3 different groups waiting on most tee boxes on both the front and back 9s. I called the pro shop to see if they would send a marshal and they said they would, but on one ever showed up.
