Castle Bay Country Club
About
Although it is tucked away just north of Hampstead, Castle Bay Country Club will make you feel as though you've been transported to the British Isles. The golf course offers an authentic Scottish-links design that incorporates the natural wetlands of its coastal Carolina location, giving it a truly unique character. The landscape of rolling dunes is covered with native grasses but completely devoid of trees. Tall sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout and there are also expansive waste areas, both characteristics that are true to its links nature. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Accurate shot placement is the key to doing well on this course and just like any seaside links layout, the coastal breezes play a prominent role. Much of the difficulty of the golf course comes from negotiating with the prevailing winds.

Enjoyed the day
This is the 4th time I have played CB and have enjoyed all four rounds. Played in a foursome and finished in 4 hours.
I visit my son a couple of times a year and CB is on our must play list. Even saw the large gator on 17.
Nice day, slow going
The greens were fast, but the pace of play was impatiently slow! A 4 hour and 45 minute round is not good…hopefully, this is an anomaly.
It was a beautiful day but the slow play was a bummer!
Whatever happened to “ready golf”?
A little expensive
Always in solid shape, rounds take a while, sometimes close to 5 hours. However $70 for a round is a bit steep come October. Head to muni, Carolina national, or ironclad for better bang for your huck
Good track
Good course, great pace of play. Played Saturday afternoon, played in 3.5 hours. Greens were good, decent speed.
Enjoyed Castle Bay
Castle Bay had more than 10 inches of rain a week earlier so it was carts on path. This combined with a Cocteau that was drying out and a large field of golfers, resulted in slow play.
I would not hold my review against Castle Bay. It’s a really nice course when the course is dry.
Wet Fro, Major Rain
The Wilmington area had more than 10 inches of rain over the past month. Because of this, it was carts on path. This resulted in very slow play on Saturday. I like the course and try to play it whenever I visit my daughter.
The greens were very slow. The fairways were for the most part dry.
Great course for the money
Castle Bay is my go-to public course in the Hampstead area. It's a fun layout with greens in very good condition. The nearly-always present winds provide a stiff challenge.
