Old Gem....on life support.
First let me stress this course is one of the most tried and true layouts you'll find anywhere. It can punish you one round and reward you the next. Very fair to a broad range of player talents. The conditions, however, have steadily declined over the past few years and this course needs help. The fairways and tees are barely passable, but the greens are terrible. Course does not react well to summer rains and heat like most area courses do. Not sure what the solution is other than the City of Akron establishing an appropriate budget for the course to be managed. Come on Akron!
Course Needs Help!!
Been playing here since I learned the game. Our league came here 8 years ago and it was a dream come true. This is a classic old school layout with huge mature trees and challenging holes. One of my favorite layouts anywhere. The problem is the city has strained their budget to the point they don't hire competent maintenance people and the conditions have suffered badly. I'm amazed the annual Amateur Tourneys haven't found another home. Our league has considered the same for the past few years. Hopefully, this can and will change because, as I said, this is a fantastic old girl....I'd hate to see her go.
I will go back
Nice play for the money. Decent layout. Pretty well kept. Nice greens
Wet spots
I love this gourse. Greens good and course layout with big beautiful old trees. You need good course management. Too many wet mushy spots and some landscaping cleanup needs done. Tha being said, I'd play here anytime. Great value!
Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give us another try in the near future.
Recommending Good Park
Our group has played GP for many years and it continues to be on of the most liked courses we play. Tough course, but it can be very satisfying to post a good round.
The staff is also top notch!
Wet
The course was soaked in the morning hours. Had the look of heavy rain, instead of normal morning dew. Otherwise it was a fun and challenging course. I will probably be back. The staff was friendly.
Course in poor condition
Good Park was in the poorest condition I have ever seen it, which was surprising as I play it several times each year. Many of the greens had large dead spots that an employee was chalking off as GUR for an upcoming tournament this weekend. Many areas were marked off on the fairways as well. I’m sure the heavy spring rains had some impact but honestly I’m not sure what is going on as other courses I have played have all recovered nicely.
It’s sad to see a gem of a course look and play so poorly. I’m sure the Summit Co Sr. Am this weekend will be equally disappointed.
Hi, Clark. Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. Your feedback about the course is important to us. We have projects ongoing to and the current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We will continue to work towards an excellent experience by using your comment for guidance. Thank you for playing J. Edward Good Park Golf Course. We hope to see you again soon.
Great course
Nice course love it here never had a bad experience. Restaurant is amazing
Enjoyed the round
First of all the course was in great shape. We were a threesome waiting all day on a foursome that was very slow and at times 2 to 3 holes behind the group in front of them. Didn’t look like anybody was telling them to pick up the pace.
Regardless we enjoyed the day and the course.
Great course
Great course! No waiting the staff was friendly the course was in great shape the greens were perfect I will be back !
Great Seasoned Course
Just a great older course. Very challenging with the trees. Great course and city owned.
Greens were in great shape. course has low spots that collect water after heavy rains which is the case. In spite of this, it is a good test for golf.
