The course was in terrific condition ! Couldn’t ask for much better! What a great pleasure to be at this gem at this time of the year!,
Pace of play
The last few times I’ve played at St. Denis the pace of play has been a little disappointing. Too many twosomes go out and should be paired up and speed things up
This course is decent. You can’t beat it for the price. I recommend using neon golf balls so you don’t lose your ball in the middle of the fairway mixed in with a hundred range balls.
Fun course not too challenging. Worth the price. Some nice big fairways and fun hills to play up and down.
Greens had just been aerated, they were beyond slow and extremely bumpy. Your ball actually jumped off the putting surface. Also, they must have had an outing the day before and some weisenheimer dumped a bunch of marshmallows on the course. Sucks when you are trying to find a white ball and slows play down. Overall, St. Denis is usually a terrific play.
They cancelled our tournament for a bigger tournament
Just a note on the business practices at St Denis. Had a tournament scheduled. 2 weeks prior, they cancelled our tournament as a bigger tournament came in. Made no attempt to accommodate us. Just "sorry, we got a better deal." Keep this in mind when playing St. Denis.
A foursome that wound up being very slow teed off the tenth tee while we were on the ninth green about to make the turn and the staff was neither apologetic nor willing to do anything to improve pace of play. They had 1 to 2 full holes open in front of them, backing up 5 groups after ours with daylight fading.
As far as layout and condition goes, the course was lush. The slopes of the greens were severe, but made much more manageable by the greens being on the slower side but still smooth. At $34 for riding 18 on a weekday afternoon, this is a respectable value, but the awful pace of play on the back nine and complete indifference from the staff left a pretty bad taste.
Been playing this course for 25 years. Don’t think I have seen it in better shape! Wonderful experience today!
Love St Denis
St Denis is a course that's always in very good condition with a great layout. You can find great rates on Golfnow & Teeoff to make it one of the biggest steals in Ohio. I definitely recommend you come out to Chardon & play St Denis
The only thing that kept it away from a 5 star was the greens. They looked amazing but were very slow
