Chardon Lakes Golf Course

About
Chardon Lakes Golf Course opened as a nine-hole course in 1931. The original layout was designed by Bert Way, the same creative mind behind two of the popular golf courses in Ohio: Firestone North in Akron and Mayfield C.C. in Lyndhurst. The second nine was added in 1963. The golf course has a traditional layout with challenges that have withstood the test of the time. It has hosted several qualifiers for the Cleveland Open, most recently in 2001. Many famous players have tested their luck on the golf course, including Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, whose score of 67 from the back tees is still the course record. Mature trees line Chardon Lakes Golf Course's fairways and there are more than 40 bunkers strategically placed along the large, undulating greens. There are also water hazards on 11 holes.

Great Course
Course was in great condition and overall was a fair test for this high handicapper. Nice layout too! Unfortunately it was very slow play on a Friday afternoon. Had to wait at every tee box. Otferwise I still had a great time!
Be 30 minutes early or don't show up
We showed up ten minutes early for our tee time walked into club house 8 minutes before our tee time. staffer member was visibly upset that we weren't "on tiime" at 8:15 during a weekday . he e paid went to the first tee and teed off two minutes before our time . we were playing as a twosome . so we were caught up to
the group infront of us within two holes . i just don't understand the attitude from the staff member .
Well maintained
I’ll start with a positive. The course was well maintained opposed to some of the reviews mentioning it was not. I went with a group of 4 all relativity new golfers in the last 2 years. After the first hole in we were getting ready to tee off on hole 2 and one of the staff members came up and said we had to speed it up; we had 3 groups of 2 behind us. Not sure how zero time spacing in between groups is our fault we teed off 3 minutes early to our appointed time. I believe it was hole 9 you can drive the green depending on where you’re teeing off from and if you’re good at putting you can pick up and eagle. They have a saying in the club house “public course with a private course atmosphere” and the staff lived up to that. 75% of the staff seemed to have an attitude as did most of the other golfers we encounter while playing here.
Horrific Slow Play
Average course that will take you over six hours to play, not worth it. Two groups on every tee box every hole.
Beautiful
Best course I have played all year. Greens and fairways were beautiful. Only one complaint is the rough was very deep. Hard to find your ball.
Fun course
Great lay out, challenging, lots of green side bunkers. Course was in great condition and the staff were friendly.
Cart paths probably time to replace was the only negative thought I had all round. Kidding I did send a few drives into the woods.
