Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Ohio (2019 #19)
Reviews
Course is in very good condition.
This course has many features with Very good maintenance.
Always in top conditions
I have played here a lot this year and the conditions are on par with high end private clubs - I mean Firestone. I recently played Stonewater as a member for a day and the fairways were ragged. Not here. Greens are smooth but not super fast. You need to know where to land your shots in some holes. Always a pleasure to play here.
Great day
Just enough traffic to have a quick round. The course was in great shape
Pleasant Course
Course was accommodating for my friend & I to play as a twosome even thought we had gotten booked as a foursome. Course conditions were very good. Fairways were in very good condition & greens rolled true.Stayed out of the sand, so cannot comment!!
Different layout
Super slow greens. The fairways were a little brown and burned up but had playable surfaces. The rough was patchy and brown in places but still short and playable. I liked the course, but the pace of the greens was a turn off for me. The layout was different from a lot of the flatter courses in the area. Definitely worth playing if you want a different sort of challenge.
St Denis
Course was in great condition, friendly staff, and managed to see Austin Carr... Overall was a good experience
Excellent Value and Layout
The course was in excellent shape. The Greens were a little slow on the back nine.
There were a couple of holes where a bell would have been good because the group behind us had to keep driving up to make sure we were out of range before teeing off.
Course has fun/challenging holes and very decent conditions
Greens and fairways are very good and will improve even more with some rain. Lots of interesting holes. Highly recommend.
Great Course
Pace of play on a Sat. afternoon was great, hardly anyone in front or behind me! Great price at 60% off. Their regular price weekend rates are too high! This course lay out is nice with some water, hills, and trees but not too bad with the trees. Fairways are wide open a lot. Greens are fast. Breaks are weird, more less looks like break but not as much as really there. Overall I like playing this course. It's not super challenging now that I'm getting used to it but some holes are more difficult. if I can pick up a golfnow deal on it I will!
Great value
Almost a seemless transition with change in ownership. Course and greens are still being kept in great condition even with the lack of rain the past few weeks. Customer service is a little lacking, in comparison to staff under former management, but overall a good public course at a great value and I continue to play it at least once a week.
The bells are ringing
Every few minutes you'll hear a bell ring across the course. Why? There's numerous blind shots that they needed to install bells to signal the all clear. Ball placement is key on many green approach shots as you can get into trouble fast. Surprisingly not many bunkers on the course but a few would actually help on the said greens just to collect balls rather than watch them roll into the dense woods and out of bounds. Very few level lies on the fairways. Greens more sloped than they appear to be. Not sure why they have distinct blue & white tees as the total yardage difference between the two are only 100 or so yards over the entirety of the course.
Nice course but a little compressed
Holes are very close together so balls are frequently in another fairway. Course needed water when we played greens were very hard and high approach shots would bounce off the greens. A lot of elevation changes but nice. We had a five some playing ahead of us which slowed play but still 4 hours on a Sunday not too bad. Inspite of the above it was a good value And I will go back.
First time in many years
This was my first time playing here in many years. The last time I was disappointed by what seemed like staff indifference and, at the time, high prices. But I've always found this a fun course to play and so when it popped up on GolfNow, I decided to give it another chance. Glad I did. Staff was very nice and helpful. Starter was a kid... nice but seemed really green. No rangers. Play was a bit slow but it was a holiday weekend, so I'll forgive. Course was in great shape. Greens were fast. Nice, woodsy, rolling terrain. There are a few blind shots which are a bit awkward with play being backed up. Rough is well maintained and there are relatively few bunkers and not much water, so it is pretty easy to stay out of trouble.
Top notch.
Course was in great shape. Has a cool layout with some elevation changes. You won't he disappointed.
Course was in great shape except for greens
Fairways were in great shape. Greens had just recently been aerated and sanded so they were not that good. Will add this course to my regular rounds to be played.
Long
If you like elevated shots this is the place to play. It's a long 5800 but good challenge. Even though the greens had just been aerated, on the front was not bad. However had to play front twice due to aeration on back nine. But it gave us a goal to beat our first 9 score, which I did. Staff is great and place clean. I would recommend for sure.
Nice course
Nice course playable greens in good shape
Perfect!
Beautiful shape for this time of year and only looks to get better. The new carts were a treat. Got a round as a threesome in about 3 hours. And a special thanks to the staff that was able to squeeze us in as we were late because of a funeral procession going all the way up Rt. 6. We really appreciate that.
Beautiful Gem in Lake County
As always, a great place to play! True greens, nice fairways always a challenge but beautiful scenery! Well worth the price to play! Not super crowded.
an alert staffer saved the day.
The course is a good challenge and very well maintained. Good mix of par 3's, 4's and 5's. Fun course to play.
Golfnow booking showed this as a Fast play. Thanks to an alert staffer who explained that the front nine was playing slow and to start off on the back nine. In addition, he explained to make it back to play the front nine by a certain time to avoid a large groups tee time.
If you are going to promote a round as fast play, your customers should not be hearing that they are going to be backed up. I booked the Fast play for time constraints. I would have been very upset today had I had wait and wait on each hole.
