for the end of august
I believe the course was in great shape tor the time of year, good sand in most bunkers and all around improvement with new management
Fun mountain course
Fun mountain course, tricky greens lots of doglegs. Great beer deals on the course, 16oz for $4! very friendly cart girls and staff. Very enjoyable challenging course.
A good course for all levels
I enjoyed this course even from the tips and the course condition was great. It allowed for shot making which was fun.
Fun layout
Great layoutfun to play very good condition

PJV,s on Minebrook
So far as the courses i've played this season - the BEST so Far
Somewhat Disappointing...
Hadn't played here in over a year and the course condition was not nearly as good as it was then. The pace quite slow which is no surprise, but it is a nice layout, was a good value and would play again at that price ($30 w/cart).
Pretty hilly course
Pretty hilly course. Tough for seniors due to climbing stairs and hills.
Very good value
Package deal (golf, breakfast, lunch)for seniors midweek was a very good value.
Problem with water on par 5 appears to be solved.
Layout is varried, interesting and fun.
Golfers from North Bergen
Minebrook its a nice course , we have been going there for more than a year and they have done a good job with drainage and fairways . The staff is very friendly as well. The course is improving. We drive an hour to get there but we enjoy playing there.
Fun Layout
I've played this course a few times over the past year and I enjoy the challenging layout. You'll find a few holes with either an extreme dogleg, tight fairway, or side hill lie which require you to have precise tee shots to set up for a good approach. The staff was very friendly and even apologized before my last round for a couple holes that had some maintenance issues (but were clearly being worked on to improve) and the longer rough allowing for the course to heal. Overall the course is in good condition, greens are well maintained, and you can see the effort for improvement. I would definitely recommend this course and with a hot deal the prices are very fair.
A PERFECT JUNE DAY IN DECEMBER !!
COURSE WELL CONDITIONED. ALL LEAVES REMOVED FROM FAIRWAYS. ALL BUT 2 GREENS IN GREAT SHAPE. UNCROWDED. A DELIGHT
First Hole In One !!!
This course is a good value. There are some tight fairways, and fairways where the ball runs off of the fairway. It is a bit challenging, but fun. Very friendly staff. I will always remember this course because I hit a hole in one on hole 12.. I would come back even if I didn't do that. Great value, a lot of fun !!!!
An Absolute Pleasure in Every Way!
I am a teaching professional at Golf 23 in Pompton Plains, NJ. I get to play quite a bit of golf. I discovered this gem for the first time this season. You run into a few courses in a lifetime where you just feel "at home". This is one of them. The staff here made me feel like I was home for a few days to visit family. Respectful, courteous and totally nice. In the 5 rounds I played there recently, I met the nicest bunch of fellow golfers you'd ever want to meet. A different type of breed in this area. The course has a variety of great holes....some short, but they throw in an occasional 430 par 4 (#9)....and a 550 par 5 (#18) to give the better player a challenge....if you want a great golf experience in a great area with plenty of restaurants within a few blocks, this is the place for you....oh, I forgot to mention, $10 on Golfnow (with a cart). Recommend beyond oblivion !!!!!!!
Gotta love Hackettstown
MBGC is where you'll find challenging holes, tasty food and a friendly staff, they're doing a very good job!
Course needs a lot of work
I won't play here again, first off there's almost no separation between holes, everyone is on top of each other. I had heard that they send people out like every 8 minutes and that seems to be the case. I know we haven't had much rain but the fairways were like cement. Yardage markers were hardly visible most of the time... I won't be going back, ever for $47.00 to ride it's not worth it.
In need of water
It's a shame to see with today's technology that any course can not substance their course to some degree with the drought we had. I would like to play the course again when they get some grass back especially on the back nine.
Miserable Experience
Have played this course about a half dozen time over the past few years -- and we play as a foursome play about twice a week at various courses. To be fair, it was the Labor Day holiday. However, we had an 8:22am tee time and were told that they were a bit backed up -- no big deal and nor were we in a rush. We teed off about 16 minutes late at 8:38am.
On the second tee box, we heard 'fore' three times and stray balls from Hole 3 headed our way. Similar experience on the Hole 5 tee box. When completing Hole 5, the ranger awaited us and asked us if we had the 8:22am tee time --- and told we were 12 minutes behind pace and that the 6th box was open. RUDELY were told to 'pick up the pace'. Getting to the 6th box we saw the group ahead of us about 150 yards out under the trees looking for balls. They, and the group ahead, were not the fastest golfers and were the source of the backup. We waited for a good 5 minutes on the 'open' 6th tee before the group ahead end out of range.
We also witnessed several 'weekend warrior' type golfers who drove golf carts like they were go karts while drinking beer and smoking cigars. At one point, one flipped while driving on an incline above the 3rd green -- well beyond the cart signage. Ranger didn't even get involved in this as his pace 'policing' was more important.
Along with everyone yelling 'fore' every 3 minutes for the entire round (as if it is a 'haha' requirement when golfing) the course was dismal. Playing several rounds this summer at PA and NJ courses, all have suffered the same lack of rain. The tee boxes at Minebrook were so dry that we had to use an iron to get the tee started in the ground -- assuming you could find a level spot. The fairways were beyond dry --- missing grass and simply patches of dirt with weeds. Several of the greens were dry, yet unmowed with patches of dirt as well.
It was so bad that two of our foursome left at the 14 hole after nearly being hit a third time. The other two of us left at Hole 15 due to being nearly hit by a ricochet ball off of the 13th tee. (Someone trying to 'Happy Gilmore' a shot.) Then that group on the 13th tee drives their cart down along the 15th green where we were and asks if we saw their ball -- yeah, almost took me out.
Also, before playing here, get a tetanus shot. Many steps to the tee boxes are laced with splintered railroad ties, protruding screws, and uneven steps. It is a recipe for a sprained ankle.
All in all, Minebrook has taken a huge turn for the worse. Very disappointing round and doubtful that we will ever return to this course. The lack of course discipline make for an unenjoyable day.
STELLAR Course !
I've played this course ON AND OFF since the mid 90's and it continues to be what it has ALWAYS BEEN - a VERY CHALLENGING course that tests you in A LOT OF WAYS ! I've seen reviews here complaining about the condition of the fairways and they're RIGHT - they were a little ROUGH to say the least but they've ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY since I've been playing it ! If you don't like hitting off a bare brown spot once in awhile then just do what MOST average golfers do - MOVE IT ON TO A GREEN PATCH ! I always PLAY IT AS IT LIES - to me it just adds to the challenge. The greens MORE THEN made up for the fairways - they were in EXCELLENT SHAPE ! The back is definitely the TOUGHER nine since a lot of it is against the hills . You get a lot of uneven lies even in the fairway. We enjoyed it IMMENSELY and will be back SOON !
I just saw they have five par 3's.....Why would have a course with five par 3's...that's ridiculous!!!!!!!!
