High Point Golf Club
About
High Point Golf Club is a public course in Montague that has been around since 1966. The course has since undergone major renovations but it still retains the original character of the design. The layout is routed between two massive, sparkling lakes. You won't find any parallel holes on this golf course, it provides plenty of space so you don't have to worry about errant drives. High Point is seemingly mild, but don't be fooled by the traditional 6,783-yard layout. There is a surprising amount of bite to this golf course. Each hole presents a unique challenge but what they have in common are the rolling fairways that are subtly contoured. They leave for some difficult and creative approaches. In addition to the golf course, High Point also has a driving range available as well as putting and chipping greens.

High point
Everything was great, a golf rep came to car with my cart, pencil and card in cart.my reservation was checked and off I went
Hidden gem
I've been playing this course on and off for years now . Greens are always in great shape . It's a point and shoot course with plenty of doglegs and water .
Very challenging, especially from the tips . Lots of houses on the course ... but you still feel somewhat secluded. FYI, you will not see a ranger to enforce pace of play and you may run into some slow play from time to time , but that's to be expected with any muni . Give it a try !!! The price is always right !
One of the best in Northern NJ.
I was a beginner the last time I played High Point so I couldn't fully appreciate it. Now that I'm a more experienced golfer and I've played it I can really say it's one of the best in Northern NJ. The course layout is the best part. Every hole has a lot of character. Just be prepared to lose a lot of balls if you aren't very good like myself because there is a lot of water! The course conditions are great and so is the staff. Also first place I've played in 2017 where there hasn't been a wait! I highly recommend this course.
Lacked the basics
I understand it's April, but the lack of basics is hard to believe. I don't really think it matters what month the calendar says, when it's forecast to be 85 degrees , a course should have water in the water coolers . I played early enough, about 11, to see it wasn't so busy that they had all been finished by the golfers. When I inquired about this in the Pro Shop at the turn, I was told if I wanted water I could buy it in there, or get it out of the sink in the men's room !! Wow, that really helped, especially on the front nine! Would a cup of ice water from the bar kill you?
Being damp on the course, as all courses in the area are this Spring, every swing creates a large divot. All the divot mix containers on the carts or empty, as were all 15 or 20 stationed at the 10th tee box, where you would normally trade yours in for a fresh one. This practice is obviously going to leave the fairways in poor condition in the weeks to come.
How much time and effort would it really take to address these 2 golf course basics? It's too bad, this layout could be nice.
Enjoyable Course
This course has had its ups and downs but I always enjoy playing here. The holes are long enough to be challenging but not outrageous. Grass needs to come in a bit and the greens need some attention but overall it was good.
The course was very interesting
Very challenging course. I enjoyed it and would go back again.
High Point GC - Montague NJ
Challenging course that would benefit from some investment, but I suppose most munis are that way.
Will require nearly every club in your bag and force you to hit creative shots.
The 9s could probably be reversed - first hole is a par 5 with a 200 yard forced carry over water on the second shot and ends with a 100-ish yard par 3. Kind of an odd setup.
The bunkers are almost never raked and the ball washers often have no water, or dirty water, in them.
Otherwise it's a nice layout and a challenging test. Price tag isnt bad either but they couldnt charge more than they do given the condition and amenities.
what used to be...
You can tell when you arrive, this "was" a course with greater things in mind. It was once a gated type community with a nice golf course.
The golf course is still nice, but the surroundings... not so much.
Many of the holes require shot placement, not just grip and rip. There are water hazards and obstacles, but nothing crazy. The fairways and greens were in good shape. The pace of play was average, but no waiting.
The staff was friendly and helpful, Unfortunately ,they didn't have any sandwiches or food available at the turn premade. But to their credit, they took our order and had the cart person deliver the food right to us on the course.
I think compared the surrounding courses, this gets little attention. To me, this is a place that should be visited. Keep your visual surroundings expectations low and you won't be disappointed. On the other hand, you'll enjoy a great round of golf.
Bring your A game
Course is in exellent shape...
Scenic
Interesting and beautiful. A couple of funky holes - one part 3 played longer from the forward tees than the back. Although the course is somewhat remote for me, I would play again. Good value and not that expensive. Course could use another set of tees between seniors (5355 yds) and middle (6326 yds).
Good track to work on your game
Long course that has wonderfully maintained green. Outside of that, this is a working course. Working on your game for when you play a nice course.
Played late Sunday afternoon and starter sent me off to #2 to start bc two foursomes of the slow playing kind were about to tee off. Wow, that was great. Played by myself for entire round and finished in less than 3 hours. Hitting multiple balls into greens from different positions, just as the single in front and the one behind did.
Tees were pretty terrible in spots but not all. Fairways were hard as rock since we haven't had rain but the bad part is that they were cut like a short rough.
Anyway, the greens were very very nice and well kept. Pretty fast and definitely ran true. What more can you ask for from a $33 round of 18 in less than 3 hours? Plus I figured out a few issues with my swing with all of the on the course practice time. I will be back. Maybe early in the season next year.
A scenic course with not so friendly cart path
This course is not so friendly to Golfnow customers. We were there 30 minutes before tee time with no one on the tee box. The staff would not only ask us to wait in definitely but also delay our tee time for 5 minutes. The tee box area was not well maintained. The staff worked on the field and did not stop if you are hitting or putting. Some greens were aerated and some didn't. Fairway grass was cut evenly for every hole.
Tremendous course
I've been playing golf for over 30 years all over the country and this course is in my top 5. Very challenging and forces you to use almost every club in your bag because of an excellent layout.
Nice course
Surprisingly much better than I expected. Friendly staff nice fairways, excellent greens. Some tricky holes with sharp doglegs left made it challenging. Water everywhere gets into your head. Definitely play it again.
