Fox Creek Golf & Racquet Club
About
Located just 30 miles west of Cleveland, FoxCreek Golf and Racquet Club is one of the best golf courses in Lorain County. The layout has a classic design with a shorter length and forgiving fairways. The terrain is hilly, which provides the most challenging elements of the course from the rolling undulations to the elevated tees and greens. You'll encounter numerous doglegs as well as a few blind approaches. The postage stamp-sized greens can be especially tricky. They are faster than they seem and have subtle breaks where you wouldn't expect. From the back tees, the golf course will test even the most seasoned golfer, however, FoxCreek has a nice balance of tough and player-friendly holes with plenty of variety. Your score will depend more on how creatively you utilize your shot making skills rather than on sheer strength or distance.

Course keeps improving every year.
Greens were in great shape. You got a true roll and a couple greens are very difficult. You must keep the ball below the hole. Very quite golf course. Pace of play moved along nicely. The cart paths are a little rough and can beat you up a bit but great course for the price.
Nice Course
This was a very nice, well-kept course. It had rained the evening before and the course had drained very well. It just had puddles on the cart paths. The rain from the night before eliminated any roll on your drive, so it played much longer, but it was still in great shape. The back 9 was pretty tight and forced you to hit to a spot, while the front 9 had several hills making the course a challenge. It's a course I will definitely return to play.
Old Lorain CC not what it once was ..........
The clubhouse is old & ready to fall down. The course conditions are always contingent on how it weathers the Spring storms. Most of the course is in a bowl, and can flood very easily. Debris around the edges of holes, and in the creeks & water hazards indicate that recent storms have made it difficult on this course. The greens are OK, actually the best thing about the course, which is a difficult layout with doglegs & elevated greens so it seems to play longer than its actual yardage.
Old Lorain Country Club still same lay-out
Course conditions always depends on weather & recent rainfall, as the bowl-effect of most of the course could be flooded. Debris around the edges and in the creeks & water hazards detracts from the fact the greens are in pretty good shape. I probably hadn't played here in about 10yrs, so choosing the back tees was not helpful in shooting a good score. The course is challenging, with water hazards, elevated greens (#3,6,9, & 17), sharp dog-leg holes (where hitting the correct spot is a must), but poor old swings make it even more difficult.
This cow pasture needs a lot of work
Between the grass clippings on the poorly maintained rough and a number of holes that were laid out by a soothsayer (we couldn't divine where they were going), this course needs a lot of work. I realize it had been wet during the beginning of the week, but it was STILL cart- path only. The fairways were cut too long and an errant shot three feet off the fairway could produce a lost ball on more occasions than should be expected. The greens were way too slow as well. If the course is too wet to cut it properly, close it! Wait till it dries out sufficiently, then cut it to normal specifications and open it back up!
Might try to come back after a dry spell....but I kind of doubt it!
I was out there a few days before and it was still a little wet, the course is in a valley is soggy in some areas. I think because its a local public course they make it cart paths only, to avoid less respectful golfers tearing up the course. I played here last year too and it was in good shape, maybe you caught a bad day. When I played the greens were fast and rolled great. The clubhouse, if you can call it that is terrible, but I could care less about that. I
Fun course to play, great staff!!!
I ordered online and walked up to see 20 people standing around the first tee. I wanted to play a fast round so I headed back to the car to see if I could find a different course. The pro saw me heading back to the car and chased me down to explain that the group of 20 people were not playing and rating the course. I played 18 in just over two hours. The course is in great shape and a lot of fun to play. The greens are already aerated
Has both tough and easy holes.
Considering all the rain the past few days, course was in good shape.
Great Deal for Great Course
I was able to get a great deal this round, but I will be back for sure even at a higher rate. First impression of the pro shop is not great, it is in an older strip mall type facility.
But the tee shot from the first tee immediately causes you to forget it. The fairways are flat, but it seemed like at least the tee or green was extremely elevated, making for a lot of fun drives and shots at greens. Greens are tiny, deceivingly fast and have more break that you will expect. And force you to be accurate with your iron shots.
A fun little old style course. I will be back.
A nice surprise
I have heard stories about Fox Creek when it was gem, so it is quite obvious when parking the car, that the entire facility has cone through some rough times. The entire grounds have a lot of character, and although I am sure it isn't what it used to be, I was pleasantly surprised by the golf course itself. It appears as though 90% of the large clubhouse is no longer used, and the building itself could use a complete renovation. The golf course is a very classic design. It's a short course with small sloping greens. The fairways are maintained, the rough is patchy in spots, but the real treat here for me was the greens. The greens here were some of the best I have played all year. There are a lot of ball marks on the greens, however, they are very smooth, and deceptively very quick. As with any course, I would be careful what you spend, but I would absolutely go back. It's a fun course, and not a pushover. The final 2 holes are lackluster finishing holes, and the 17th in particular is not a great hole, but other than that, it's a nice course with a ton of character.
Nice variety of holes.
Fun, hilly course with a nice blend of tough and easy holes, fun par 5s, and several dog legs moving both ways. Also has a strong group of par 3s. Greens were quick but not lightning fast.
It was HOT and we enjoyed the course.
Elevated greens and tee boxes makes it a vary challenging course.
Course needs some work
The course was interesting to play. Greens were very well kept, but other than that there is much work to be done. Tee boxes and sand traps need work. Course layout is different with many holes letting you be imaginative with your shot making. No additional admentities, no snack area, have to use vending machines in the cart garage. Could be nice place to play with some work.
Great Course - Terrible Round
Fox Creek is a great course, and is extremely challenging. Postage stamp greens and heavy dog legs plague the course. However, I was put in the same cart as a complete weirdo who just endlessly commented on every aspect of my game, so it ruined my desire to play golf that day. I blame the starter, since he put me with this dude. He was a member and has been playing there for years, so I dont know why the starter would have put me with him.
Greens were perfect
The greens were in perfect shape. Some of the pins were a bit unfriendly. Very challenging course from the tips. Lots of elevation changes and blind approach shots. I definitely will be back.
course looks beautiful from the tees
Great course. . Lots of hills that really challenged myself... the fairways looked like they weren't cut that day but they definitely were the day before or maybe much earlier I'm the day but they were diagonally cut and looked beautiful from the tee box. Greens were beautiful. . Rolled very consistent. . You could see the grain reading your putt.. I'm not sure if it was just something special they had going on or not but our golf came with a free dinner at the bar (hot dog chips and pop) overall great course
The course will get back to good conditions if it isn't already. The course was in great shape when I was out there in May. The ground staff was really busy when I was out there. It is not a private club anymore, which is better for everyone that wasn't a member. Conditions always suffer some during the transition.
