Brown's Run Country Club
About
Brown's Run Country Club in Middletown offers a championship layout that stretches to just over 6,830 yards. The team of William and Brian Gordon, brothers who have designed more than 85 golf courses all over the U.S., designed Brown's Run in 1958. It has a classic layout that is gentle enough for beginners, but it is an enjoyable round no matter what skill level. There are a few strategically placed sand traps throughout the golf course, which make up for the absence of water. The design is pretty straightforward although there are a few slight doglegs to watch out for. In addition to the challenging but playable design, the course boasts some of the finest fairways and greens in the area. Brown's Run also offers other amenities including an Olympic-size pool and four lighted tennis courts.

Rough Shape
Had been there several times as a spectator watching my kids play high school matches there and was always impressed. That said, when we pulled in the lot, it just seemed “rubbed down.” The first tee was completely void of grass and the rest weren’t much better. Luckily, most of the greens were decent, I’d still go back but hoping they get a handle on things soon!
Good first time course
This was a great course to get a quick nine in on a Sunday evening. Pace of play was great. Played the front nine in just under 2 hours. It’s out in country but worth the drive if you are in the Cincinnati/Dayton area.
Nice Layout - but needs rain badly
very friendly and helpful small staff - formerly one of top country clubs around - layout is moderate with challenges if you can't keep on the fairway - many trees come into play and doglegs are all to the left favoring a golfer who can draw the ball - slicers will find this challenging - only played front nine - first tee box is a disaster after the drought of early September - all dirt and some crab grass. Only water the greens and the approach - but after #3 the land is lower and retains more moisture so it was more attractive and fairways in better condition - greens were not fast but lots of undulation
Worth a try - but I bet it will be beautiful in mid October - lots of trees and NO houses around course - just natural woodlands. On front nine there was NO water anywhere to worry about - but lots of trees and areas where the natural growth would swallow your ball
Not worth the money
I’ve played my fair share of average and fair places around me. I enjoyed the layout of the course. The tee boxes, fairways and greens are not good and might be the worst I’ve every played. I’m not trying to tear this place apart but whew
Overall good
Overall this was a good course. Greens were in great shape, rolled pretty fast. Fairways were also good and rough wasnt too high. Extremely playable and a good routing. The tee boxes severely need some work, not what I was expecting.
Wonderful course!
I have played several times at this course in this year. It is a beautiful one, layout, course conditions, pace of playing, especially staff friendliness. I will definitely recommend this course to my friends.
Gem of a course
You must play this course! Every hole is picturesque and great layout. Plenty of challenge with nice placement of bunkers and interesting features to make you think about shot shape. There were a few burned out spots on fairways and greens but it did not take away from the pleasure of playing so much as it was aesthetics. Once the weather cools down and they get some rain it’ll be a fantastic track but if go ahead and play now it’s in decent shape and a really good time!
Course is challenging and fair
Course is fun it has dog legs left and right .. there are some strategic shots where you can’t pull driver every hole.
What Happened
when I first played this course last year it was in great condition pace-of-play was great however things have changed for the price I would not recommend playing this course in this current conditions
Update info golfnow!
Greens are fantastic. Fairways have had better days (common for courses around our areas this time of year). They have major irrigation issues.
Golfnow please remove the free golf range balls. We showed up early as requested by the course and we’re told balls were another $7.
Nice course just needs some time to heal
Great layout, poor conditions.
My Dad and I played Brown’s Run for the first time today. The clubhouse staff was very friendly. We both really enjoyed the layout of the course. It’s some what challenging, yet fair. Almost every hole has a dogleg in one direction or the other. The one thing we just couldn’t get past was the condition of the course...it was awful. There were some areas of the course that were getting water and looked nice, but there were also a lot of dead spots. I mean, a lot. Fairways, greens, rough...lots of brown. Luckily we secured a hot deal through GolfNow, because I definitely would’ve been upset to pay full price for a course in that kind of condition...
For the price it’s so not worth it
The course was in horrible condition. Brown spots everywhere, tee boxes were a mess, greens were damaged in some spots. Golf carts were super slow along with the pace of play and no ranger to attempt to speed up the slow groups. Overall for the 45 dollars I spent I was very disappointed. Not on my list tonplay again soon.
Old School CC
Great old school country club that would be easy to walk. A little slow play but still finished inside 4 hours. Greens in great condition. Fairways and tees a little rough on some holes but really well worth the drive due to layout. I will play again.
Not good for price
I am visiting from Atlanta and was told to my brother in law and myself that it was a pretty decent course. Not the best at all. Some greens were dead and tee boxes in pretty bad shape. I love the old school lay out with trees and dog legs everywhere. That was pretty much it. Definitely not worth the money I paid. I expected more from the course.
I don’t think I would play here again. I played different courses in way better conditions with better amenities around the same price. Sorry not sorry!!!!
