Manakiki Golf Course
About
Named after a native American word for maple forest, Manakiki Golf Course's defining feature is the abundance of maple trees that line the winding fairways. The course is a classic Donald Ross design. He incorporated a variety of challenges including tricky doglegs, water hazards, up-and-down holes, and two canyon holes. The holes themselves also cover a range from short to long and tight to open. Golfers should prepare themselves for a bevy of uneven lies, but the dramatic elevation changes also guarantee some scenic views throughout the golf course. There are also sand traps but their placement and number were thoughtfully considered to make Manakiki G.C. challenging but still playable. It is popular for this reason but also because it is one of the best rounds in northeast Ohio you can find for under $50.

This course swallows your balls!
Great time golfing at Manakiki! My only gripe was it was cart path only so that meant there was a lot of time walking trying to find your shots that would go 5 yards into the rough. Had many drops just due to losing balls in the rough, not even the woods! Other than that, the course is beautiful and flows very well. Not a lot of driving from hole to hole. Very hilly and challenging. Like I said if you lose sight of your shot, it may as well be good as gone.
Rough to high/thick
Rough hasn't been cut due to rain. Any shot in the rough you most likely will lose your ball or spend 10 minutes looking for it.
Manakiki April 18, 2017
Played 18 in great weather. Booked as a single and paired up with a two ball who were late for their time. Finished in about 4.5 hrs w a wait at #10. Back nine slower than front by 20-30 min.. My first time out so I saw A LOT of the course. Fairways good condition; rough was serious; the weedy areas featured high, thick grass. Greens were just aerated and top dressed, and they played accordingly. Hopefully, all will soon be smooth green and quick. Fellows I played with were playing Manakiki for the first time. Discussing the holes with them reminded me what a great track this still is and how lucky we are to have it available for public play.
Fairways are in great shape but greens were just aerated and sanded
Besides the greens just being aerated and sanded the rough had not been cut so it was extremely long. The staff was very nice and pace of play was excellent.
A gem
Course was in great shape for anytime of the year but this was late October! The staff was very friendly and the grounds crew was out working on course was very respectable when we were in the area they were working they would turn off their equipment and wait for us to finish...I always enjoy playing here
Watch it
The course and conditions were great.
However, we were hassled by pro shop staff about tee time and price using GolfNow. We showed the Golf Now confirmation and they still insisted that it was all wrong.
The staff needs more training for better customer service.
Nice course. Snobby people
A really nice course to play. Smooth greens. Lot of character. But the staff is always a problem for me. Lot of attitude. Not real friendly. And aggressive rangers. Thats what stops me from going there more often.
Review of service
I'm not writing this review on the course. But on the service I think the fees are excessive for what I am getting
Golf
Great public course, pace of play is usually slow however on a Tuesday it moves fast fully recommended.
Beautiful & Deceptive
Oh Donald Ross how I love you. This man knew how to build a golf course, no need for heavy equipment, just take what the land gives. This is a masterpiece of a golf course that puts a demand on ball striking and placement. There are numerous elevation changes that are often deceptive and shots into greens where you cannot see the pin. Country club length rough and some of the fastest greens in Cleveland. Bring your A game. A must play (but $55 is full price on a summer weekend). Played in under 4 hours on the Saturday of Labor Day.
Had a great time
Had a great time.
Pace of play was good.
Greens were true.
Would return
Slow go
The course had a high school girls team playing in front of us but the starter said they would be only playing 9 holes and it would be smooth sailing after that. Well after the front nine it was smooth sailing for 2 holes then a log jam of 2 twosomes and a foursome in front of them. The course continued sending people out on number 10 after the girls were done and it was even slower on a 90 degree day. The course was in ok shape and we were caught in a couple of sprinklers that were watering the course.
I haven't played this course in 15 years due to incompetent staff looks like it will be another 15 till I come back.
A great great layout
This course is truly the best layout in the area. The rough was very dry because of the drought conditions but tees, fairways and greens were outstanding. I love playing here. The scenery in the Fall is gorgeous. The course usually plays slow because of the difficulty and hilly terrain. It was 89 degrees when we played so it kept a lot of people away I would assume. This course is laid out better than any private course I've played in the area, including Stonewater.
changes for the better
I have been playing this course for years and always liked it. During the past few years they have improved several of the holes on both the front and back. It is better than ever now so if you haven't played it for a while I think you will be in for a pleasant surprise.
MUST PLAY MUNI !!!!
Weather was perfect. 82 sunny and clear. Breezy. Played with my wife and another couple this day. Pleasant group to play with. Tees and fairways were in good shape with a hint of burnt rough due to dry weather in recent weeks. Did not take away from experience. For a muni, greens were great. Smooth and not overly fast, but had enough speed to make downhillers a challenge. The great thing about this course, it is an original Donald Ross design that the normal, everyday golfer can play. That may not mean anything to most people, but for advanced golfers who have played many courses designed by the greats over the years, this is truly an honor and privilege. The design of the course is phenomenal!!! I don't mean to scare you, but have to bring your A+ game since there are 5 holes that have very tight fairway landing areas for some really great par 4 and 5 holes. It is fun to play, but can be intimidating! Took about 5 hours to play 18 holes. I think that is normal for most play at this course since the course plays difficult. Rangers should not judge pace of play by how many holes are open in front of them, but by how the groups behind are keeping up. Was warned to speed up play on #16, but the reason it appeared we were slow is 2 fold. #1 is the threesome in front of us quit after 9 holes and #2 is I think the difficulty of the course. We had two single digit handicappers in the group along with 2 ladies that were keeping up by picking up putts and playing ready golf. Will definitely be back. By the way, the rate for play was #30.00, which I consider a steal!! Please play here when in Cleveland area.
One of the Better courses around
Course is always great shape and a challenging layout. Pace can be challenging. Playing by myself I always get paired up because they're always busy. Not inclined to let you play the back 9 if only doing nine :( Bit pricey if you don't get a good golfnow deal around $25 or less if good. But yeah one pf my favorite courses around as far as challenging, and condition and layout go. The staff is hit or miss, some older guys who aren't always super nice.
Repeat Golfer
Manakiki golf course is an outstanding course for all to play no matter of your experience level. If you are a slicer bring a lot if golfs balls, especially on number 3 with the sharp drop off to the right.
A beautiful round of golf
The course was in GREAT SHAPE.. Fairways were cut close , but rough was a little tall.. Most of greens had been spiked and sanded recently but ran true.. Overall a GREAT LAYOUT AND COURSE .
Good course for the right price
The course is great if you can find a deal for under $30. You need to schedule at least 6 hours out of your day to play 18 here. Pace of play is slow due to no rangers on the course or if they are they aren't making sure the pace of play is kept up. Fast greens with break to them which could be an issue for just the average golfer. So if you can find an online deal for under $30 and have 6 hours this is the spot for you.
