Manakiki Golf Course
About
Named after a native American word for maple forest, Manakiki Golf Course's defining feature is the abundance of maple trees that line the winding fairways. The course is a classic Donald Ross design. He incorporated a variety of challenges including tricky doglegs, water hazards, up-and-down holes, and two canyon holes. The holes themselves also cover a range from short to long and tight to open. Golfers should prepare themselves for a bevy of uneven lies, but the dramatic elevation changes also guarantee some scenic views throughout the golf course. There are also sand traps but their placement and number were thoughtfully considered to make Manakiki G.C. challenging but still playable. It is popular for this reason but also because it is one of the best rounds in northeast Ohio you can find for under $50.

Tee-box #18 Photo submitted by DAB4par on 08/11/2014
the course was in great shape...
The course was well manicured, and for mid April the greens were fairly firm and the bunkers are in good shape. Enjoyed the course...
Great course once weather clears.
Love to play Manakiki. Once the ground is dryer and they prepare the bunkers for the season, it's great.
Manakiki
I have played this course for 50 years. It is still a challenge. Course conditions were good for Fall golf. Staff were friendly. Pace was good.
Great value
It was quite cold and their were a few leaves on the course, but that is to be expected in November. Course was in good shape and fairways and greens were clear.
Course in great shape
Played Manakiki on 10/11/14. The course was in as good a shape as ever. The fairways were perfect and the greens rolled perfectly. If you're visiting in the Cleveland area, this Donald Ross course is a "must play."
Beautiful course
This course was in beautiful shape and was challeging.
Need Rain for the Punched Greens
This is an excellent, challenging course. Unfortunately the front 9 greens were punched awhile ago and are just about completely healed, but the back 9 looked like it was punched 2 days ago. There was no way to roll a putt on the back 9.
Not just a driver course
Course depends on well placed shots, can't just bomb it down there on every hole. Greens were topped, which we didn't know before playing, made putting horrible. Every green was a beach with all the sand.
sandy greens
The course was great but the back 9 had 1/4 inch of sand on them.
Excellent metro parks course.
Tough tight tee shots especially from the tips fairways were in excellent condition greens on the back nine were in great condition front nine greens had just been aireated so still sandy and slow. Only complaint is that the pace of play is ridiculously slow could not even finsh my round in 4 hours with a 3:21 tee time.
Very good muni, in great shape, excellent value for the money.
This is a solid golf course, tough enough for better golfers, probably too much for beginners. The course as in good condition, and pace of play was very good. The staff were friendly and accomodating. And I got to meet some very nice guys I played with. It's my bonus for traveling all over the country.
Nice Day at Manakiki
Overall the course is in good shape and the pace of play was above average. Greens were very slow compared to the last time I was here in May. Clubhouse staff are very friendly and helpful; first tee starter needs to improve his "customer friendly" attitude. New tee box on #4 appears to be a good idea; #18 is a great finishing hole.
A classic course, Donald Ross design
Great muni course. Classic Donald Ross design, The terrain is tough and beautiful, it is a challenging course that requires a thoughtful plan to score well. All of the metropark courses are maintained quite well, Manakiki is no different. It gets a lot of play, and can be slow from time to time. Rated consistantly in the top ten courses in NEO by golfclevelandohio. I have played several Donald Ross designs, and I am never disappointed. There are a lot of fun shots to be had on this course.
Challenging course yet enjoyable to plU
This is one if my favorite courses. The course is in excellent shape with nicely trimmed fairways and not too high of rough as well. The greens are nice sizes and can be tricky if above the pin.
My only negative ishole two where tree that is about 10 yards in front of hole needs to be trimmed. Last couple of times I have played here that tree has knocked my ball down. I like to play a nice 7-8 yard draw and tee box is short width wise and the tree limbs come into play.
I highly recommend Manakiki.
I will be back.

Manakiki
This course is a great old Donald Ross design. It's a good challenge and conditions are always great. Everything about this place is awesome except for the starter. He's an unpleasant person full of sarcasm and snide comments. It's really not the start I'm looking for in a great round of golf. Don't let that stop you from playing here though this course is amazing.
Couldn't agree I dread every-time having to communicate with this guy is the worst. He's a miserable, arrogant, and rude man. Worst part of Manakiki for sure.
Couldn't agree more, the worst part of playing is the gruff demeanor of some of the employees. It doesn't seem to bother anyone enough to keep them away because it's usually crowded.
Great course
Played the course for the first time Sunday, August 31th. Will play again. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the pace of play. When you have groups walking and other groups riding it slows way down.
Cleveland Metro courses
Good course for the $$$$$$$. A little too tough for the beginner. Lot of blind holes and rough terrain. I enjoyed playing with a 96 year old gentleman they paired me with. Lloyd enjoyed the game, played quickly, and knew all the right things to do. It didn't hurt my ego that he beat me on 3 out of the first 5 holes. Fun, Fun , Fun.
cant wait to go back
Great little Don Ross course. challenging elevation changes, very mountain course like. greens in spectacular condition, bunkers need drainage system as most were filled with water from previous day storm. will definitely play next time I'm in north east Ohio.
Beautiful course horrible staff
I have previously enjoyed playing Manakiki but the staff is making the experience umpleasant which riuns whais supposed to be a relaxing endeavor. I arrived at the course and encountered difficulty with the clubhouse staff regarding paying with a credit in their system which was a gift card purchased by my fiance. I was told in a letter that I only need to have ID but was told by two staff members at the course this was not their policy; can anyone say "consistent message"? This I had to search my car and luckily had kept the letter and the gift card in it; whew! Then to add unsult to injury, I go to the starter shed to tee off and I'm told that I am being paired with a threesome (which is no big deal) to which I agreed. However, the starter then tells me that I need to give back my cart and jump in the cart with a gentleman who is enjoying his pre-round cigarette and I am a non smoker. I politely tell the starter that o would prefer to keep my cart as I paid for a single tee time and after some banter back and forth he relented and paired me with two gentlemen walking. By now I am totally agitated and the beginning of my round reflected it. Perhaps it's time for some of the "old heads" to either simply golf or go home. Back to Sleepy Hollow and Shawnee Hills for me!
Awesome Donald Ross Classic!
Manakiki is classic Donald Ross, which means the greens can account for a lot of strokes. Course can play short, especially Par5s (why did I bogie 3?), but course in excellent condition. Nice hard fairways, but rough will tangle around ball, and especially around the greens, the key word is "commit" to the shot. The only negative thing I can even think of, is the general public doesn't realize how great this place is, evidenced by the un-raked sand bunkers from previous play.
As someone who plays a right-to-left shot I agree having that tree cut back would be nice, but I think that could be said for every tree on the course. It forces hit a different shot by design.
