Great golf, even in winter conditions
River's Edge in Bend is a very playable course with challenging elevation changes and some great views on a clear day. While the course was still in winter condition, I thought it was well maintained and would be beautiful in the summer
I really appreciated the phone call I got the night before warning me about a frost delay for the morning and I was paired up with some locals who had some great tips for navigating the course.
Challenging course with many side hill lies and slopes
This would be a difficult course for most new golfers. Very hilly and numerous side hill slopes and lies. Not very forgiving. Very nice setting with a lot of beautiful views. The course was in reasonable condition for early March in Central Oregon.
Winter Conditions
For winter conditions the course was in pretty good shape. Of course there is a lot of water on this course in the summer which are just big mud holes right now, so that detracts from the beauty of the course, if you are use to playing it in the summer.
Not in bad shape for early March
The course is in pretty good shape for early March. Just played the front nine.
Rivers Edge is beautiful and challenging
Rivers Edge has been a long time favorite course for our family. The course is challenging, the view is spectacular, and the staff are friendly and helpful. We consider it one of the best in the area!
Great course but not for walkers
We play Rivers Edge at least a couple times per year and it is always enjoyable but pace-of-play can be a challenge in-season. When the weather is nice this course can get backed up. 6 and 16 are probably our favorite holes on this course. The Par-3 16th is imposing with the green 300' below the tee box. There is a LOT of elevation change on this course so walking it is not for the faint of heart. In fact, we walk well over 75% of the time and this is the only course in the area that my partner and I have agreed to ALWAYS get a cart.
Jeckel and hide course
the first nine is tight, narrow fairways. The second nine is more forgiving and much more open. Our round has slow because we were playing with a couple who were extremely slow. The course condition was excellent for this type of year.
Great variety
Rivers Edge offers diverse features beginning with the tee shot from number one that is steeply downhill with a dogleg left and strongly sloping banking on the right that will feed your ball back to the fairway. There are many approach shots to elevated greens. Uphill drives, greens that are smaller and well protected by trees. There is even a 200+ yard downhill par 3 that is reachable with a 7 or 8 iron. Course is very green and lush. It winds through a development but the houses are well placed and do not intrude into the playing experience. Water features, spectacular views and great golf. The one area that could be improved is the fairways are often over watered. Have fun!
River's Edge is fun to play.
We always have fun playing here and try to play whenever we get to Bend. The course is challenging in that you have to use a lot of thinking about your shots with the varying elevations of greens and tee boxes. The last time we played they ran a special with a slightly reduced price. I am always a bit disappointed that they don't ever run any specials of any kind. We can play a lot of golf in our area cheaper with a bit better courses.
This course is a hike!
Jay and I chose to walk this course and play from the tips. Fortunately both of us are in great shape and could handle the terrain. There is a lot of elevation change on this course! From the tips you gain a whole lot more respect what this public course in the town of Bend has to offer. Stunning views, challenging tee shots, and an appreciation for every club in your bag. This course has a lot of high risk, high reward opportunities for those willing to go for them. After a couple not so great attempts, I played for par the rest of the way. After a decent front 9 the back 9 was not as friendly. I will be back, as this one got the best of me, and I will ride rather than walk!
Rent a cart it's hilly
Beautiful course with a lot of elevated tee boxes. Your driver may not always be the best club as you hit through the fairway on a couple of doglegs. The only drawback it's crossing a major road to reach a couple holes.
Beautiful course
Clean, well maintanined course with great scenery. Lots of trees left and right. water and bunkers are there if you want to hit them. I like the layout of the course, and the sunlight through the pines was postcard perfect. Greens are clean and have good feel. twilight rate of $25 makes it one of the better values in Bend.
Strange Course
Close in, but seems as if the course was jammed into available area. Very severe changes in height and the greens seem as if they had not been mowed for some time, as the cups were smaller than they should have been due to grass overgrowing into the cup.
Nice layout, good value, elevation changes....
Front nine is narrow and demands a strategy. You should not grip it and rip it, here. I used 3 wood and hybrids off most of the holes. Back nine opens up and driver is now out of the bag. Runs along the river and offers a nice mix of water, sand, and elevation changes. You will likely hit all the clubs in your bag.
Good features, couple of greens need work
Overall the course is a great challenge with great views. The front nine is tighter than the back nine. The biggest dissapointment was the first 4 greens really need to be resoded. Had I had to pay full price to play I would have been very dissapointed. The deal on Golf now made it worth the play.
