Starters don’t know how to properly pace groups on a busy day
If your looking for a 5 hour round of golf, look no further than south shore country club where the course overbooks and the starter doesn’t know how to properly space groups out. Tensions on the course are high when you’re waiting 25 mins at every tee box. Maybe use the $80/round to hire some people who know how to manage a golf course. Not sure where that money is going because the carts are in horrible shape, the course tee boxes always seem to be in bad shape and sand traps are like concrete and the course has horrible drainage. Standing water in the middle of the fairway. Be better or charge a reasonable price.
WAY OVERDUE FOR NEW CARTS
The carts are horrendous, and in extremely bad shape for many years! If your going to charge $75 to play I it’s about time to get some new carts.
$80 for that?
Tee boxes were a mess. For $80 a round I expect the tee boxes to be in better shape. Sand traps were either mud or hard pan.
Great Day at South Shore
Very friendly staff, good price, good pace of play.
Only complaint would be that the halfway house could use more workers and better selection but overall experience was great.
Not worth to spend 5 hours
The guy at the pro shop was very friendly and funny. The course layout is short and easy. But they put to many people on this short course! That makes it a 5 hour wait! The restrooms were a mess!
Terrible pace of play and conditions
Our round was over 5 and a half hours. We did not get off the first tee on time. The group in front of us was insanely rude and wouldn’t let us play through until the 14th hole. The cart we were driving didn’t work properly and I had to hit the gas pedal at-least 5 times to move it in between shots. The course conditions were poor, it had rained the night before and none of it drained. Overall would not recommend this course and it was over priced for the experience.
Nasty manager Mike
After long week of work I’m a physician I hoped to enjoy my 18 holes, unfortunately after spending nice amount of money Manager Mike ruined everything.
Our tee time was 12:35 on arriving to first tee it was crowded. We asked starter if we can start back nine since no one was there and starter agreed. We played back nine in nice peace not delaying anyone after that we moved to front nine which was empty no one waiting no one on a green. Different starter who is no friendly person at all , I know him from before hesitate a lot. At first did not let us start looking for our tee time for a while on sing in sheet. We explained to him why we played back nine which was in interest of all players. We loosened some traffic on the course.
Finally he agreed but soon after he interrupted our game telling my partner in nasty way to go to Manager in a middle of our game. My partner lost temper and said few words then went manager, came back and told me that it is end of our game.. I went to manager on my own and in very nice and calm way asked him why he dose not allow us to play. This angry guy Mike start yelling on me ant telling me that he is MANAGER and we are out even there was still no one on front nine. I have apologized for my friend but he still with raised voice was showing me who is a boss. Give people some power and they lose they minds.
Conditions were better, still room for improvement
The fairways and tee boxes (except for the 9th hole) were in good shape. Greens were a bit slow and the bunkers could use some more sand and raking. Overall it wasn’t bad for spring conditions. hopefully the rude players on the course will do their part to keep it playable.
Blind Golf
The course Lay-out is terrible: almost every hole has a blind shot. Alway have to watch out if the group in front is behind the hill. Never find your ball if it's not on the fairway, cause you didn't see where it landed.
And the restrooms were a mess.
Still in bad shape..but being repaired
Haven't play SS since last year because it was in terrible shape. Went back to play an afternoon week day round. Staff/ pace of play B+..tee boxesC- but they appear to be in the process of fixing Fairways A-. Greens not in bad shape but slow. And bunkers D- Absolutely horrible...still not Wirth 70+$$ Rather go to Jersey for the difference of the toll
Course in Disrepair
Unfortunately South Shore Golf Couse is in desperate need of repair, cleanup and restoration. The couse has been in steady decline for quite a few years. The cart paths, sand traps haven’t been repaired and there is quite a bit of trash lining the wooded areas. There were not enough golf carts on Sunday, so there was a wait, but that might be expected on a busy weekend. The golf carts themselves are very torn up and need big time rehab or better yet, full replacement. The mens rest room have 2 broken urinals an a sink which have been out of order for several months. The personnel at the food concession are always friendly and accommodating,, but this concession is not always open during normal golf hours, so bring your own coffee and snacks to be safe. The bottom line is that this course should be in mint condition given the greens fees being charged. It used to be one of the pearls of Staten Island. It needs a tremendous amount of attention to get back to where it was several years ago.
Very nice local course
South Shore is a nice fairly short course!
Aerated greens are getting better
Fairways are generally clean
I do not consider it worth $80 for the round !
No ball cleaners out yet! No water to drink out yet! Not even garbage pails with bags in them
Other then that!
It’s very nice there
Good course to play
