Tight narrow track, accuracy a must.
Beautiful day spent on a day with beautiful course conditions. On a late Sunday morning, 4 hours and 10 minutes to finish our round with a female playing from the front tees is fantastic pace. Its been a while since I played this track but it's here where I learned how to play this game. Fairways and greens probably the best shape I ever seen. It's obvious funds were put into this place not only for golf but towards their banquet hall as well. Overall it's a very nice venue to not only play golf but to relax as well. Fairways are moderately wide which makes it playable for mid and high handicappers. Big hitters would most likely consider this track short. Solid shots will definitely get rewarded with its design and layout. South Shore will always hold dear to me but its not considered a course to play if you're coming in from NYC, Long Island or far into NJ. It's considered a track for local Staten Islanders and the players/friendly staff don't mind that at all.
Very nice course! Challenging but fun.
Very well kept. Great course. You will find a way to use every club in your bag. 18th hole is sweet. The balcony overlooks the green.
SouthShore 5/31
Course in good shape despite the recent rain. The greens were very good for this time of the season.
Suggestion: recommend or sell personal bug spray for the tick infestation
worth playing
the course was in good condition, it was very hot but stay under the trees made it bearable. they have no markers to judge distance so without an gps you need to guess.

Excellent conditions
I had a very nice round at South Shore. The course was in the best condition possible considering the lack of rain. The greens were a little bumpy and expected due to aeration but not bad. Excellent course, excellent staff. I will be back.
Good corse
Good course, nice condition
Disappointing Revisit
This is my favorite layout on Staten Island. I haven't played here in a couple of years so I decided to give it a go today. Weather was 89* and sunny.
Front desk folks are very good, professional and friendly. Best part of the round.
1st Tee: Course was full with a steady of players. I was a single and manager to get in line with two other gents. A fourth showed up and we played together with three carts. Very disorganized first tee. Every group had three or more carts. Inefficient use of resources and assets.
Pace of play: A lot of what I would call "Choppers" out in the beautiful weather. A lot of Seniors playing also. Those groups hate losing balls so they search every nook and cranny looking for that $1.50 Top Flite causing a long wait between shots. Round from 1st tee check in to finish was 5 hours, 20 minutes.
Course condition: Tees were not mowed and turf was sparse. Looking around, there are few greens that get sufficient light to support proper turf growth. Lots of crab grass, sand and bare spots on the tees. Fairways had lots of turf of various sorts but were in need of mowing. Rough was plush and someone was mowing. Greens were in fact green. Very slow and again not much speed. Don't suspect the mower heights were set for medium to fast greens.
Final thoughts: New carts were a big plus. Again, today was hot and humid and there was not a drop of water anywhere on the course. You bought bottled beverages at the first tee before you teed off or when you made the turn. Nobody in their right mind would venture to drink from the two sketchy moldy and unclean fountains if you could remember where they were.
This is a city owned, privately operated concession. While I love the layout, it is geared for the recreational golfer and senior citizen. If you want to play real golf and enjoy your efforts, look elsewhere.
Pretty good for a public course
First time on the course, pretty decent. Not a hard or long course, but still has it's challenges. It was in great shape, especially the greens considering the weather and drought conditions lately. We played on a very hot day and the bartender in the snack bar told us that it was much less crowded than normal. I would definitely play here again, but it might not be worth it on a crowded day if it was going to be a 5-6 hour round.
Amazing round
we are 4 some , great round . one of us hit on the green at 4th hole 265 yards, and he got a birdie .
And I almost got a hole in one at hole 6th hole ,par 3 with 121 yards, 6 inches to the hole.
Good condition slow play
The course was in real good shape considering we have not had rain ...the group in front of us not in good shape. Very very slow pace hitting 2 to 3 balls off every tee just plain ridiculous
Starter is a mess
The course was in great shape, there are some really dramatic layouts here for an NYC public course, and some of the greens are fantastic. You feel more secluded here than at other NYC courses like Dyker Beach or La Tourette. However, there was a 4 group pile-up on the first tee, the group ahead of us obnoxiously went off as a 2-some (instead of sticking with the 2 they were paired with) and we tee'd off about 30 min AFTER our scheduled time. The pace wasn't terrible after the first few holes, but they really need to get their starter situation fixed.
Always a good time
Course was well maintained as usual
We were unfortunate to have 2 slow 4somes ahead of us
And packed for a Wednesday afternoon
South Shore the Hidden Gem
As someone who has played a lot of golf on Staten Island, courses can get crowded and you end up waiting in the cart longer than playing. This weekend I teed off at 9:30, played in a twosome and finished within 4 hours (ended up having to wait a bit on the threesome in front of us). The course was in excellent condition and the staff is always happy and helpful. They also have a good place to grab food/drinks/beers at reasonable prices and can call ahead so it is ready for you at the turn.
Nice course
I really enjoyed the course. My playing partners were awesome guys. A lot of fun holes.
Needs better maintenance
Despite being early spring greens need work. Debris in bunkers (unforgiveable) like tree limbs. Cart paths need much repair. Carts need replacing.
