Not worth it
There are divots on the greens, there’s zero dress code, players were walking around without shoes and wife beaters on. None of the fairways were cut. For $65 there are other courses worth your time.
Not so good!
I used to play twice a week at Melrose country club few years back, Read reviews recently and had very poor reviews and me being stubborn, ignored and booked tee time and played 😮 greens we’re worst I’ve ever seen and it was just really sad to se this place go down like this🙁
The once great…
You can tell that Melrose was once an awesome venue. The old clubhouse/restaurant is massive and invites thoughts of what the course was like “back in the day”. The staff was great. Price was on point. Course was in ok shape, but it looks like they are working on it. Most holes were well kempt with only a few that required some relief on the fairway. Layout was excellent with some challenging holes. Will definitely play again. Warning: the rental clubs are abysmal. Bring your own or borrow a set.
Greens were terrible, crabgrass all over ruiuned putting. Pace was really slow as well. Disappointing but think course headed wrong direction
Owners let this place deteriorate
It’s honestly maddening how poorly maintained this golf course is.
Unfortunately, the owners have mismanaged it and run it into the ground.
It’s a shame because it’s a fun layout and has so much potential.
I’d be surprised if this course is still around in 5 years. Odds are they’ll sell out to greedy developers and yet another decent Philly area course will disappear.
Owners completely let go of maintaining course
It's a shame. This used to be a decent course and there is a complete lack of maintenance of the entire course this year
What Happened?
Over the last several years the course has been getting worse conditions wise, but this had to be the worst I’ve seen. Greens were in sad shape between the bare spots, ball marks and crabgrass. It was like putting through a mind field. 12th hole was cut in half due to tree removal which was a let down. Tee boxes need a little TLC but weren’t horrible.
The have a great layout so if they would just spend a little money to revitalize it, I think it can be a fun course to play again.
In complete shambles
I played this course last year and I do not remember it being as bad as it is this year. The greens are full of either dead grass or crabgrass. Absolutely no way they should be charging $65 to play here. There are so many better courses in NJ or Bucks county that are only $10 more expensive or even cheaper than this course that are far better maintained
Is What It Is
Greens currently not in great shape but you get what you pay for. Don’t have high expectations. Keep up the pace of play and get your swings in and thats enough.
Sad to see the course in this kind of condition
I have played here several times over the past few years. It is sad to see the condition it has fallen into. Greens in terrible shape. Weeds in the fairways and on tee boxes. No sand in the traps. I was the only one there on a Monday afternoon and went around in about 2 1/2 hours If you are just going out to hit the ball and work on your game then it may be okay for you. I would not bring a friend. :(
Going downhill fast
I used to love this course. When the current ownership took it over they put some money in to it and it was a great course to play, especially since there are limited public options near Philly (on the PA side). Unfortunately, over the last two years the course has been completely neglected by the owners, who are letting it go to crap so they can build houses. No amenities....no clubhouse, one cart girl who usually only see around the 9/10 hole when you don't need her. The icing on the cake now is that the greens are utter trash. They claim they have the "virus" and that they won't be repairing them. Tee boxes are also completely trashed, and now they moved up the teep box on 12 (one of the best holes to play) to the middle of the fairway and made it a par 3.
I hate to say it, but it's almost as bad a Juniata and I'm done playing there. It's a real shame, but I'm out.
Great challenge
From the start this course provides a challenge. The course had winding fairways, many uphill shots, and greens that make you think
Needs new everything
I’ll spare the theatrics, but it comes down to pace of play + greens.
At least the rest of the course was mowed, but greens were in severe need of some TLC. More brown than green, played and looked like untrimmed carpet.
It’s clear Melrose is in need of new ownership or at least new greenskeepers - though I fear the haunted house that likely isn’t even getting electricity hasn’t been used in years so not sure how they expect to pay said greenskeepers.
No starter, everyone teeing off late for :10 tee times and continual back up all day long - 4:50 long round
