About
Hickory Valley Golf Club boasts two 18-hole, regulation-length courses, named the Ambassador and the Presidential. The Ambassador Course is the shorter of the two at 6,450 yards but it still offers a fair test. The classic layout is routed through towering hardwoods forests that stretch to over 70 feet high. The tall hickory trees loom over the fairways. The small greens are sloped back to front, presenting a challenge for even the most seasoned players. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are a few tricky doglegs to contend with. The bunkering is minimal but the abundant trees will be enough to keep you on your toes. The golf course has some challenging holes but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Front desk check in
Arrived 15 minutes early and at check in a very rude man toke my information. He told me that we would have to wait to play 20-30 minutes and he could not give me a cart. Our tee time was at 2:35 and so we were worried we would not get it in. We went out at 2:55 and last whole could barely see.
They overbooked the course with kids league and other leagues and the parking lot was like a freeway at rush hour.Course greens were great but the fairways our in rough shape. Will not be returning to this course.

Love the layout, conditions could have been better
I've been playing here since 1990 and love the course layout as it is quite challenging on the back nine. Several of the tee boxes look like mold took over and I have never seen this before. Staff can use some training on being nice on the phone during the booking process. New ownership is making changes to the club house which is great to see. Value for the round was terrible at $75 but all of the area courses are gauging golfers since the pandemic. I will still go back as I am curious to see the final results of the changes they are making. Was nice to see the beverage cart out as it normally is not. Adidita (cart person) was super nice, engaging and had a wonderful attitude.

What I expected
Considering how dry its been, the course was in good shape. Was watered in the early AM and the greens were watered as we played. Some narrow fairways and blind carries over environmental areas(high grass/swamp) that unless you played before, you wouldn't know were there. Cart girl showed up twice all round, on a 92 degree day. Overall, not a bad course. I'll be back to play again.

Fun course for the money
Not an overly long layout, but fun. Cart person passed us early on the front nine, and was never seen again, don’t expect pampering.

Challenging public course with great conditions
I’ve played here many times and it’s always more challenging than you expect. Depending on pin placement, be prepared to add a few strokes to your normal round. Course conditions are often that of a private course and the course is isolated from road noise for the majority of the round. Some picturesque holes and plenty of fairway bunkers to keep you guessing which club to grab. Only wish they had the midway shack open on weekends or some facilities at the turn.

Almost Perfect Day
A few of the par 3 tee boxes were chewed up but the course and greens were in perfect condition. A large group slowed the afternoon players down so the round took over 4 1/2 hours. A long afternoon round is not unusual here. Great value and every hole is different and interesting. No gimmick holes here. I play this course often. Only one visit from the snack cart. The snack bar is a bit off the turn so this should be fixed.

Needs some management
Do not book on thusdays around 10 am. I played solo today and while checking in i was told a few groups just went out ahead of me, ok not a problem. I was not told it was a senior league. Got to the second hole and the guy cutting the grass laughed and said good luck today theses guys are very slow. So the staff knows about this. They should send people off the back or have a ranger out there moving these guys along. All day guys were waiting for the group ahead to get off the green over 300 yards away knowing they can barley reach 150. It turned into 5 1/2 hour round. No water on the course. Didnt see the drink cart until the 17th hole. Just a poor experience overall.

Not bad for circumstances
Presidential course: I came from Philadelphia where the day prior we didn't have any rain or wind. Upon checking the weather nothing showed in the area it was due to be sunny and warm. The day prior to our play the courses area got killed by hard rain and wind. The lead to some drainage issues on the course. We had a 10 o'clock tee time and due to other people's delay they let us go early but the put a group right behind us. So we didn't have that 12-15min interval.
I can tell by the course and it's up keep on a better drier day it would be a good time.
The downfall is the parking lot is junk. A simple fix to grade the stone being you have the equipment on site. The club house looks looks terrible and in fact is.

Greens in great shape. Fairways good as well. Rough was deep in some areas.
