Macoby
In beautiful shape, pace was right on par, around 4 hours. Greens were ridiculously fast, pga-like. Not a particularly tough course but can be unforgiving if you hit it in the wrong spots, which was just the case for me last Sunday HA. Course was in great shape. Every part of this course played firm and ran. There wasn’t anyone at the front desk to collect money, so they asked to square-up after 9 holes which was cool. Super flexible and professional.
FAIR AND FUN
Rough was cut to a playable length, many greens were tough to putt if you put the ball in the wrong location.
For me, the gold tees are too short at 5400 and the white tees too long at 6300. Overall, a good experience.
Great value for a good course
First time playing this course and will definitely be back. There was some wear and tear on the fairways, but understandable considering it’s September. The greens were a little slow (probably for rain the night before), but in great condition and very receptive. This course has a good mixture of a few challenging holes in the middle of that course with narrow fairway gaps with more forgiving fairways as bookends. It also has a few holes with elevation changes you don’t find on many courses in SE Pennsylvania.
My only negative review was the pace of play. I was playing solo and came up to a large group that would not allow me to play through at first. The two-some behind me called the Pro shop and was told it was match play. We were eventually able to get through after 4 holes. I’m not really familiar with the rules of match play, but considering they had two
Marshall’s with them I would have thought when we were all at the same tee box we would have been provided the courtesy of moving ahead of them.
I figure something like this is a one off and would not prevent me from playing there again. I definitely recommend giving it a go.
Pleasantly surprised
Course in a lot better shape than others we played recently. Definitely returning.
Macoby Run 8/21
Course is in great shape. Twosome played 18 in just under three hours
Macoby Run and done
Decent course in pretty good condition. Some elevation changes (e.g. all the par-3s were downhill, some severely so) and blind shots.
Travel-wise, a difficult course to get to – lots of turns and twists after getting off PA Turnpike. Pro shop small, old, and tacky. Bar small, old. Carts old.
I’d give an overall rating of a strong 3 out of 5 stars.
But I probably won’t venture to MR again.
Beautiful greens and tee boxes
It has been 15 years since I played here and the ownership has done a wonderful job with improving the overall conditions of the course. Most greens were impeccably maintained with emphasis on speed. Each tee box provided good opportunity for many placements and were well-groomed. The par 3, 4th and 15th, remains the only concerns . Recommended installation of tee box signs to wave next group to hit while getting ready to putt.
Hidden Gem
Awesome course near green lane! Shorter holes yet very challenging greens that keep you honest! A lot of space between each hole giving the feel that your all alone on the course. Three par 3s with very fun top of the hill drop down shots, with awesome views from the tees!
Great course for the cost
Macoby run is well worth the money spent, the course offers a challenging course for beginners but very playable. Would be a great course to play alone or with friends!
Macoby 7/12
Course was in incredibly great shape despite the enormous rain from the night before.
Macoby Run
Haven’t played this course since 2006. What an improvement!!! We will return.
course map required maybe even a guide
unless you play here often, it is next to impossible to understand where to hit! first cut off fairway was three inches. not a fun course. i do not recommend
tricked up course
starts out with a blind tee shot into the sun...
then parades you through a series of elevation changes .. course is eztremely hard to follow.. hard to be confident when green is no where to be found. first cut rough three inches thick prompting slow pace ... will not be back!
Well done
We play here at least once a year the past 6 years. Course is in best shape I’ve seen. Well done. Very friendly staff. A great value.
