Middletown Country Club
About
Middletown Country Club has been one of Bucks County's major golfing destinations for more than a century. Originally designed as a nine-hole golf course in 1913 by Scottish architect Alexander Findlay, the second nine was added three years later. In the many years since opening, the golf course has undergone renovations by both George Fazio and Stephen Kay. This tough course is proof that a layout doesn't have to be 7,500-plus yards to be a challenge. Although the Middletown C.C. golf course plays to a seemingly modest yardage of 6,217 from the back tees, the rolling terrain provided by its location in the scenic Neshaminy Valley makes the course seem much longer. The small greens have plenty of undulations and you'll also be faced with a variety of uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies. There are also towering trees looming above the fairways and water comes into play throughout the golf course as well.

In a pinch
Only play here if you have too & don't pay more than $30 for it.
Putting Nightmare
The greens at Middletown are rock hard and superfast. Unless your a scratch golfer don't expect chips up onto greens to stay on. Some of the par fours are very long for the average golfer.
Terrible condition
The fairways were being aerated and were SO torn up. Twice I found the middle of the fairway but had a terrible time locating my ball - I found it both times plugged into a hole that was like a crater. Another time a maintenance guy drove over my ball in the fairway while aerating and pushed to below the ground. He didn't even say anything, just a shoulder shrug like "what do you want from me". I understand we are hurting for rain but grass around most green is tough to find. Lots of chips off very hard mud with rocks just off the green. Even with a golf now deal this was brutal! I've played 80+ rounds in the last 2 years... This is my first review for whatever that's worth.
Fun layout
Each hole was unique with bends, elevation changes, traps, trees, etc. the course could be kept up better, but loved the challenging layout.
Awesome Design
Classic old school design. The greens were running at 12 on the stimp meter. I do recommend playing this course at least once but its not for those players looking for a perfectly manicured golf course.
Love this course
I play this course just about once a week mostly due to how close it is to my house. The course is pretty challenging especially since you ar going up and down hills all day. The greens are very challenging, lots of movement but fair. The staff is great, always nice and helpful, course ranger generally stays on top of the pace of play. Conditions are great and are improving year over year, rough could use some work but helps provide some challenging shots. No cart girl but they have a perfectly placed snack stand that you pass 3 times. Would definitely reccomend playing here if you are in the area.
Fun course, great staff
This place was a lot of fun to play - very efficient and accommodating in the clubhouse, gave me a few tips on the course and let us go when we were ready. The course has a lot of hills and a mix of very long and very short par 4s - the hills make for some very nice views from the tee. Some of the fairways were patchy but it has been very dry, so that was to be expected. Greens have a lot of break to them. Used a putter out of the bunkers a few times, sand doesn't appear to be that deep.
There is a small concession stand in a perfect place - you pass by it three times during the round!
Excellent course
First time playing course. Loved the layout. Has everything woods, sand, up and down lies. Some holes you can't see the greens until almost too late but adds to the challange. Greens were in great shape and can not complain about the course. Highly recommend and will play again when in Penn
Challenging Greens
Booked a single and was paired up with another GolfNower. Finished in a little under 4 hours. Fairways were in decent condition. The rough was patchy which created some interesting issues (crab grass, missed passes with the mower). The pins seemed to all be in very difficult locations but it was early/mid week so I wasn't too angry about it. Greens seemed to be pretty hard. My playing partner and I both had several approach shots that landed softly before the green and proceeded to roll off of the back. Overall it was a good experience for ~$25. Will play again when I am in the area.
Tough course
I say tough course because I've only been playing a few years but it's a lot of fun very challenging great day out . You need to try it if you're in the area
Making great improvements
I have golfed at Middletown a handful of times over the past 6 years. Course has an interesting layout but the conditions always were subpar. NOT ANY MORE! The new greens keeper has done a great job bring life back to the greens and fairways, the rough still needs work, and of course this is a project so there are some still some fairways that need work!
Definitely play there again
A nice place to play
I was very pleased with my round. The staff was very courteous and knowledgeable. The course was in great shape. The greens were beautiful. I would definitely recommend this course.
First time at Middletown
First hole is intimidating. Number 2 handicap hole Off the tee you are looking straight up at a huge hill. It's on me but it freaked me out. Will play the course again. Cannot play number one any worse
placement is key!
I love courses that are mountainous, and make you think about your shots. I wish the ladies tees were a little closer on the first and second holes, or make them par 5'sI wish hole # 9, 11, and 17 had better yardage markings. The sand could be better. But this course is probaly my favorite course because of the layout!
Not the best kept course
I played this course years ago and for all the amenities that came with the club it was a well kept course. When playing the course this time it was not the same. This course has a lot of blind shots and the wooded and fescue area is unforgiving, however the greens were the only part of the course I would say was well kept. Although even with that the greens were as hard as rocks. This course needs to take some time and install an irrigation system, the only thing i noticed it would have needed was to be watered regularly to be in a good condition.
Middletown is getting better !!
This course is great if you want to kill an afternoon but not break your bank account. The new grounds keeper is clearly making great strides to make Middletown a even better local course. Some of the greens were under small repairs but nothing to be weary about. There is no cart girl but you do pass the shack a few times. I'll definitely be back the staff is always friendly and helpful.

While I agree that 15 and 16 are big holes, long and short par 4 holes are very typical of old style course design like Middletown.
