I nice layout, but too many blind shots, especially on the 1st, 2nd, and 15th holes. Distances to dogleg bends on par 5 holes should be more apparent without having to use a GPS device.
Good day
Good day overall - no complaints other than geese, but that is fairly typical
I thought that the course was challenging, but I was feeling it and had my best round in 5 years! I would definitely recommend this course to others.
Fun course, could use a little refinement.
Layout is a little quirky with quite a few blind tee shots and odd tight layout. You cross some roads, you cross them again and then you go around some houses, i mean literals drive around from one side to the other of a private home.
Positives -
Staff was friendly,
Starter was great.
Weekend afternoon rate starts earlier than everywhere else in the area.
Fun for the price.
Snack bar at the turn is a nice touch.
Bev Cart came around at appropriate times.
Greens were fair.
Could use a little help -
Range balls were dirty. Yes you hit over a pond at the practice range, but no one likes looking and hitting filthy pond balls.
Carts were dirty. A good quick pressure wash goes a long way.
OMG, please have starter to remind people to yell fore if their drive is off-line. We were almost hit while we were on tee boxes and in the middle of our fairways. Some of the tee boxes are hidden and people just don't realize how close they are to just left or right of fairway.
Also have starter tell folks the there are many short par 4s and to make sure they are clear before hit. With the blind tee shots, you can get hit with a long iron. We were hit into many times and had to inform the people behind us a couple of times because it got too close for comfort.
Overall -
Fun and enjoyable for the most part. Spend a little time on presentation and I would classify it as a really nice course, especially for the price.
overall disappointed
first impressions-staff not friendly at all. Carts dirty. We played in the morning, did not look like the had been wiped or cleaned. Course is tight, not great shape. Gets a lot of play. Bella Vista the sister course is nicer and staff is much nicer.
Not bad, but too slow
Never have I started on the first and been backed up right from the next shot all day long - there was never a spot where we didn’t have to wait on the group in front of us. I will partially blame them, because they were waiting for the group in front of them to clear almost every green before teeing off & not once did they even come close to reaching them, it was a bit ridiculous out there
Mainland GC 7-18-20
As soon as I arrived at the course, a polite and friendly staff member greeted me and loaded the cart with my bag. I played in a foursome so we had two carts.
Pace of play initially was slow but picked up. One comment here is that golfers were not fixing their ball marks on the greens.
The Halfway Snack Stand opens at 9am but we got there by 8:30. You could get drinks or baked goods (muffins) that were available but the hot dogs weren’t ready.
Layout of the holes was a little confusing but a couple of the guys we played with knew when we had to crossover the street and at what holes.
We got done by 10:30 but again the restaurant wasn’t open (opened at 11am) so needed to find something local to get refreshments and food.
Decent layout and conditions
First time playing Mainland, we played the longest tees. Greens were in good shape, rough was burned out. Layout was only “ok”, with a few nice par 4’s, but too many short par 4’s and par 3’s were all too long at 185yds. Staff was ver friendly. Not sure I will go back just because I found the layout not too interesting.
Golf
A personal favorite so, perhaps I’m biased. Course as always, in beautiful shape, ball ran in fairways and greens were firm and fast. They had a golf cart circling with snacks and beverages at all times. What more can you ask for on a hot Sunday?
