The Inn At Pocono Manor - East Course
About
The Inn at Pocono Manor offers two championship golf courses, conveniently located less than two hours from New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia. Surrounded by the beauty of the Poconos, the inn has earned a spot on the National Registry of Historic Places. George Fazio designed the West Course, and the East Course was Donald Ross' creation. The East Course, the original layout, has hosted a number of legendary players, including Arnold Palmer and Sam Snead, since 1912. Ross carefully sculpted the mountainous landscape to create a course that is both challenging and memorable. It is shorter and tighter than the other course but they are equal in level of difficulty. The golf course is defined by the interesting water hazards that come into play on several holes, but the scenic views are also a draw.

Poor Course Condition / Rowdy Players
Have played Pocono Manor many times; first time I'm providing a review, due to poor conditions of fairways and greens - no excuse, given all the rain this Spring.
Secondly, despite rangers passing by them the two groups ahead of our foursome (a two-some and a three-some), Nothing done, even though they joined up to make a five-some. They were not only rowdy, but incredibly slow. Indeed they were leaving beer cans on the course. How a ranger passes this five-some up without taking action is unconscionable.
Pace too slow
The round lasted too long, actually played a fivesome and the course was still backed up by an outing. The golfers were using one bag.
Great Value
After being away from the Pocono's for 15 years we bought another house and are back. I had always enjoyed playing at Pocono Manor with my son and friends and still do. I was sorry to see the west course is no longer there though. The weather was far from perfect with a light drizzle and fog but the course was in excellent condition. Unfortunately we had to stop after the 10th hole because the fog got so thick we couldn't see more then 50 yards. We will definitely be back when the weather improves.
Pathetic Pace of Play
I'll start this by saying I am an Assistant at a large golf resort and have played here before many times. After this past round I will only give this course one more chance. I was regretting having to pay $40 to play a poor round when I can play for free whenever I want. The pace of play here is horrendous. The ineptitude fon the operational side is disturbing, no support from staff, what seemed like quadruple bookings.. etc. The round was a joke from the moment we pulled up to the tee box and I was somehow able to put up a good score. At the tee box for an 11:50something tee time we had to wait for 4 foursomes to tee off before we were up. By that point it was 12:30. There was one employee just watching the tee box from 80 yards away the whole time making no effort to control the situation. We had to wait 10+ minutes on nearly every shot. When you have multiple 200yard looks on your second shot into par 5s it's frustrating to be iced while waiting for the group in front of you taking 5+ shots to reach the green. No ranger trying to help out and apparently the beverage cart gets off for the day at 3 on a Sunday. The greens and tee boxes were in great shape on most holes but I'm not a fan of the layout. The only water and sand on the course is on 18 so this is not a huge test even from the tips. 3 is a blind par 3 which to me is ridiculous and there's another par 3 that's 77 yds. Nearly drove the par 4 5th with a light swing 3 hybrid which just should not happen. I'm going to come back to this course and give it another shot at twilight. I can get past the questionable layout as long as the pace isn't brutal which it is in the late morning. My recommendation is either go during twilight or pass on this place.
Downhill past two few years
Went here as foursome with friends and boy was it a disaster. Course was in poor shape. Shotguns from skeet shooting are blasting constantly on holes 1 and 2. We had a tee time before for 11:30 AM and did not get to hit on first tee until 1pm. This course has no starter or ranger to help with pace of play. Anyone who appreciates the game of golf should steer clear of this course. 6 HOUR ROUND!!!!
Great value
I like this course. It is a mature mountain course with a nice layout. The hole all vary so they all differ. Hardly any sand. I like that. Good course for your average weekly golfer.
Tight course with fast greens
Unique layout through the mountains. Be ready to use your brain when thinking about how many clubs extra or less you need to take compared to the actual yardage. There are a few holes (i.e. a 77 yard par 3) with silly elevation changes, but generally it creates a good challenge.
The fairways are very tight with lots of trees around to cause trouble for wayward shots. The greens undulate pretty severely and played very fast when we were there. Definitely played better than my score indicated given that I (and my playing partner) just could not figure out the greens.
Everything was in decent shape, especially considering the amount of recent rain. Amenities are nothing special, but this course is great for the rate we were charged.
Good course comparing the price
The course layout was okey but it needed some maintenance. The green was slow and lots of leaves there. Comparing the price, no complaints.
Wonderful day
Played this course for the second time. Pace of play was good, course was in good condition.
Enjoyed the different elevations and rolling hills. Courses at home are mostly flat. Some very interesting holes, including the 7th with a 70 yard distance, Par 3, mostly straight down hill.
Everyone was very pleasant in the Pro Shop.
Would play again if given the opportunity.
Disappointed to say the least
I consider this a local course being 30 minutes from my house. I just finished playing there today and was very disappointed. There were 2 6-somes in front of our group. Not slow actually, but destroying the course. I filled up our cart basket 3 times picking up garbage from them. Plates, cans, cups, there should have been someone monitoring the course having big groups out there.
The course was in wonderful condition in the spring. I was amazed how nice it was, unfortunately, it is not so now. Greens are in bad shape, fairways are like rocks, it has been let go. The holes that are good, are good, but they are getting less and less. So unfortunate for such a historical course.
Bring it back and maintain the great course it once was, bring it back to the course it was in the spring.
Pocono Manor East
I've played in a tournament there for 19 years straight and haven't been there in about 6 years The fairways are full, the greens hold and are fast. Beautiful course. Full of challenging holes.

Nice Donald Ross course
The course was in good shape but pace of play was slow. Could have used a Marshall to speed it up but I guess you can expect this on a resort course . All in all a good value and good food on property.
Enjoy this track
Weather was beautiful so pace of play slow, which was to be expected (one slow threesome holding things up). Course in very decent shape and holes keep u interested. Pro shop staff and cart attendant very friendly and proficient....fast and smooth registration. Hot Deal is icing on the cake!
Won't go back
Got there early. Pro shop staff would not consider letting us play sooner than our tee time. Had to pay a lot extra to play. Upsetting!! They were not busy. Won't go back!!
Coming Back
Over the last few years this course was not in the best of condition however, this year they have spent some money. It is evident throughout the course. The tee boxes are very large and we'll kept. The greens are thick and run true. No crab grass anywhere. The fairways are coming back. And a classic layout. By Far and Away the best feature of this course is that there are no homes anywhere you really go out and just play golf. Peace, Quiet, lots of Wildlife complete the experience. I suggest playing during the week as on weekends the course is extremely busy.
Hidden Jem
Played this coarse for the first time last year. Since then I played there thirteen more times. I do not understand all the negative comments. I've played most of the courses in the Pocono Mt. Region and this one ranks right up there with the best of them.
