Reading Country Club
About
Opened in 1923, Reading Country Club is one of the area's oldest golf courses. Located less than a half hour from King of Prussia, the course is easily accessible from anywhere in the greater Berks County area. Though it has a traditional layout that doesn't have the length that most modern courses do, that hasn't stopped it from being one of the most challenging public golf courses in Berks County. The rolling terrain provides a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The course will test you with lightning fast, undulating greens that are protected by sand traps and there is punishing rough bordering the narrow, tree-lined fairways. Be prepared for uphill shots and blind approaches throughout the golf course. Reading Country Club's par 3s are especially notable for their difficulty.

classic layout
Played here 5 years ago, wanted to re-visit as I live an hour away. Classic old school design, need to shape tee shots to keep ball in the fairway, lots of rolling terrain and sloping greens to keep your interest. Excellent conditions and smooth greens make it worth the trip, will try to make it an annual visit. Staff was great, keep up the good work, did not get a chance to try restaurant, but looked inviting from the outside.
Bunkers
Fairways - excellent
Greens - very fast
Bunkers - terrible- hard dry dirt!
Hi USARMYRET,
Thank you for playing at Reading! We hope to have you back again soon!
Best condition I've ever seen this course
Clearly this course is being cared for well. The fairways were cut half running towards the green and the other half back to towards the teeing grounds. A great visual effect and the lies were perfect. Extra divots had been sand filled. Greens were perfect, fast, and rolled true.
Staff was great. I booked a round an hour before on GOLFNOW and they welcomed me in right before they were having an event. Great Castle Pub, beautiful buildings and course. And you can express order a sandwich from the 9th tee waiting for you at the turn. Book it now.

FAST GREENS
Course was in excellent shape. Had difficulty stopping the ball on entrance shots and the greens were very fast. If you miss the cup, you have a lengthy comeback put.

Keep it Simple
Very nice course, excellent condition, fast true greens.
Hi "Critchie11" Thank you so much for the excellent review. We appreciate the kind remarks regarding our green. Please come back and visit us again soon.
Tough little course in great condition, with great greens!
This course is an old-style Golf Course, With a lot of elevation changes, tree-lined Fairways and small greens. It's a pretty tough course and will beat you up if you don't strike the ball well. Especially the par threes. But don't let me scare you from not playing here due to me not striking the ball well... It's a cool course and I would definitely come back. The restaurant is very nice and had pretty good food but it did take longer than normal for the food to come out. Even though we were the only people eating.
Great Layout
Watch out for the Par 3's .very challenging and lonģ. The staff is very friendly.
Great little course
As usual the course was in better than expected condition. The greens were great and again as usual all the staff members were super friendly even though the place was mobbedwith families eating our for Easter holiday.
Worst experiene of the season
This is a glorified municipal golf course advertised as a country club. Golf at RCC is clearly not a priority, as evidenced by many things, including a poorly marked pro shop relegated to a small stable house outside the main clubhouse.
Condition of the course was poor at best. Fairways are essentially non-existent as they are poorly maintained and virtually indistinguishable from the surrounding short rough. Tee boxes were filled with unrepaired divots, bunkers were the consistency of concrete and obviously hadn’t been raked in weeks. Grounds staff didn’t even bother to replace the grass plugs in unused holes on the green.
Course layout is uninteresting and monotonous. Virtually zero course management required here. “Fairways” (or at least what they’re calling fairways) are extremely wide, straight, and unobstructed with few trees. The only obstacle on the course is the same creek, which is used ad nauseum on no less than 6 holes.
Pace of play was extremely poor. During a weekday, there were extended waits on at least 14 holes without a single ranger spotted the entire day. To say that the entire queue in front of us were beginners would be generous, hitting 50 yards at a time all over the place. We simply forfeited the last three holes out of frustration due to the wait.
Overall a sub-par course that is not even close to being worth the greens fees (even for $30). Will not be returning to RCC. There are FAR better public and semi-private courses within 25 miles. Don’t buy the rave reviews. Look elsewhere.
Reading CC is a good choice any day
Being a formal local to the Reading PA area this course has been one of my favorites for years. Living more towards Philly, I don't get the chance to play it as often these days. Found a hot deal for 14 bucks, got there early and the starter was able to get me out an hour earlier than my tee time. A nice accommodation for the winter when daylight is a factor. The course was in excellent shape. The greens were smooth and fast. The course has a lot of character with trees and hills that can make quite a challenge. It's not the longest course out there but long enough if playing from the back tees. Not being in the fairway can be very punishing as you can get blocked out easily. In the summer months they keep the rough a lot thicker which makes it even more punishing. The greens can be fair or impossible depending on the pin positions. Playing in mid December on a Friday the pins were set at places like a tournament would be arranged. Making some close shots above the pin impossible to keep close. This would of been my only complaint of the day but still it's a challenge nonetheless. The clubhouse is undergoing construction based on new ownership for the restaurant. Should be nice when all finished up.
Smells like a post from staff or former staff.
very nice look and feel
The course is in excellent shape from tee boxes to fairways to greens, the bunkers need some attention but it is mid-November. This is a challenging course with a great layout, rolling hills and interesting green locations. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. l cant wait to play again.
good course very playable for all
The clubhouse was under construction,so there was no bathroom facilities or food. Talked to a construction worker he said work expected to be completed Nov. 17 2015
Very nice course
Course was in good condition and it was not crowded so we were able to play without waiting at all. The course is not long but plenty of trees on both sides of most fairways to make driving straight very important.
It seemed like the overall clubhouse facility was closed and there was no food and the only bathrooms were portable bathrooms by the driving range.
good muni
played with my son-in-law on a hot day. course conditions were surprisingly good in semi-drought conditions. staff were very welcoming - that has always been our experience here. greens were especially good but tiny!
Nice course o play
It was pressure to play a good golf course like this one. We could not find 12th hole since there was no direction to guide to that hole after 11th hole.
Green was maintained very well and one of the fast one for public courses.
Bob's review
Tom Morgan has the course in excellent condition.
great job!
Wonderful classic course
This course was in top shape and a real treat of an old course. Not a long course, lots of mature trees, some elevation changes to keep it interesting. Greens ran true and consistently. Staff was all friendly. I really enjoyed this course and will be back. You will enjoy it.
Challenging Course
I played Reading CC not knowing what to expect. I got such a great deal as a single on Sunday it was worth giving it a shot. Upon arrival I was paired up with three regulars. The group I played with had played there many times and were a lot of help. Course was challenging from the par 5s to the par 3s, which all were over 170 yards. Playing from the blues makes it tougher then the whites. Overall the course was enjoyable, the staff was friendly, and I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a nice challenge.
Best that I have seen this course in years!
This course is in excellent condition from tee to green. The greens were extremely fast, like putting in your bathtub but rolled true and held good approach shots. Fairways were lush and rough was thick but fair. I would recommend this course to anyone and will try to play it again this summer for sure.
