Chapel Hill Golf Course
About
Chapel Hill Golf Course in Reading enjoys a scenic backdrop of mature forests. The tucked away locale provides a peacefully secluded setting that is ideal for a round of golf. While it may not seem like a long layout at just under 6,150 yards, you'll soon forget about any lack of length once you get on the golf course. From the very first hole you're confronted with a water hazard, a stream that weaves around five other holes. The layout forces you to think through each hole, making the tough decision between going for it or laying up. Accurate shot placement is crucial throughout the golf course, especially on the back nine where there are several tricky doglegs and tough uneven lies. Mature trees tightly line the fairways at Chapel Hill Golf Course, and the greens are framed with strategically placed bunkers.

Greens are very hard, cart path is awful
I only play this course when it’s a good deal. The course is pretty wet from the rain, but yet the greens are still hard as a rock. You got a nice approach shot on the green where you want and it just bounces in the air ,and off the green. Grass was very inconsistent every where on the course. The cart path is just atrocious. Course layout is fine. I wouldn’t spend more than $18 to play here.
Great Course, Great Value
I am actually not 100% sure about the date of my outing here, but I frequent this course and have never written a review. Chapel Hill is always in great condition compared to a lot of other courses that I have been to that cost up to four times the price. I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a fun, challenging, and friendly place to play a round of golf. I am looking forward to booking my next outing here, which will hopefully be withing the next week or two.
Great Place for a Quick Round
I have been playing here for about 6 years now. The course is a magnet for retired golfers, in the morning. Playing later in the morning or afternoon affords the opportunity of playing 9 holes in 90 minutes and 18 holes in about 3 hours (sometimes less). The layout is not very challenging, but the course has enough variation to keep things interesting. You can't beat the price to play 18/9, and the course is walkable. That being said, this course attracts recreational golfers who may not be well educated in proper etiquette and the rules of golf. If you get stuck behind these people, which you will at some point, you can bank on a long and frustrating day. I am not sure if the course is under new management, but there is definitely a push to make improvements to the course and the facilities, so if you haven't played here in a while, give it a shot, you might be impressed.
Another Great Price on a Great Day.
I had not played here for a while because of all the wet weather. Its not fun when its swampy. I thought that the course was a little dry. The greens were not holding that well. Big bounces'. Otherwise it was a perfect day with great low 80s temps. Ill be back and I love playing the Blue tees for the challenge.
Much improved
Given it’s location, the course is challenging and very well maintained. They have finally updated the carts and now getting to each hole is worry free. In the past I’ve had a couple of them just stop running. Great course in great shape very impressed with improvements.
This course has the challenge that you are looking for.
If you are tried of long holes that give you an eye popping 1000 yard stare, then you really need to try this course. I used my driver 4 times on the entire course, made me play lower fairway woods and long irons for a lot more accuracy.
Course was in good shape and greens were rather quick.
Great job and thank you.
course was drying out had to use cart path only on a few holes. course was good. my game not so good. will play there again.
I normally have a good time at Chapel Hill. It has a nice layout especially holes 11-13 as it enters into a wooded and more secluded part of the property. It is also a good value for the money.
However, before one golf's here they must consider recent weather conditions if they want to have an enjoyable experience.
The course does not drain very well. The golf course was mowing on a busy Friday of Memorial weekend. I assume this is because it was too wet to mow earlier in the week, despite not having significant rain fall for over a week. STRIKE 1!
It seemed like there were mowers on nearly every hole. I get it; that's something you have to play through. What I don't accept is mowers yelling to other mowers, across the golf course. I was in full back swing mode, when it happened. STRIKE 2!
When I started at about noon, it was cart path only, which made for an unpleasant experience on a 90+ hot and humid day. However as I was coming up the last fairway, there were carts on the fairways. I inquired inside and he said it was just changed to allow carts on some fairways.
STIKE 3: You're Out... of my playlist.
Kindness goes a long way by: Jquinn
The staff at chapel hill aside from the amazing layout, got me hooked her about 8 years ago. You always feel like you are part of the family when you are greater with a smile and stellar service everywhere you look. Keep it up.
Well kept and great staff
Well manicured course. Front 9 is challenging.
Owners and staff are great people.
Bartenders and servers are also awesome!
Challenging layout
Chapel Hill offers an overall unique layout, especially for a non-private course. It tests the golfer skills as well as club selection options. One might even think of a need to add another club selection to their bag. Layout includes narrow fairways, challenging greens, multiple water hazards on one hole, par three holes with both elevated tee boxes as well as an elevated green (and not just fifteen feet elevation changes).
Nice Public Course
I play here periodically and always enjoy my experiences. This is a very fair course and well maintained. The staff is outstanding. There are a number of holes that make you really think about club selection...which makes the course a challenge. There is a simulator inside the clubhouse and the clubhouse is really nice. A great place to play...will be back this season.
Good value
Fun course with some technical sections. Great price and great value for the money. The only fault was the fairways were pretty long when I was there. Greens were very good and quite fast though.
Nice challenging course !!!
Nice course that offers a challenge for the novice golfer (I'm not that good). The course gives you a little bit of everything from hills and waterto tight fairways lined with trees. To my favorite hole #13 which is a medium length Par 3 with a serious drop off. Great course friendly staff and great price. My favorite course.
Nice Place to Play
Course has a nice layout. There are a number of holes that test your golf knowledge with club selection and shot landing location...a real challenge to gain the edge...great clubhouse...fantastic staff...
Love Late Fall Golf
Another beautiful fall day and the course was full. Everyone trying to get last round in before the cold. I started by myself but things slowed on no.4 so I joined with a two some. Course was in great shape for November. Slow play so I replayed 1 and 9 and left. 11 holes for 12 bucks is still a great deal. I had other things that needed done so I chose to not complete round.
Very nice track for the price
I live about 5 minutes away from Chapel Hill GC and play here quite often. Usually they have an affordable rate on GolfNow. But either way you look at it, paying $40 on a Saturday afternoon during the heart of the season at the counter is not bad at all either. Chapel Hill takes very good care of this course for how much foot traffic they have daily. Some of the older guys in my area while playing at chapel hill, will not let you play through their foursome. Even if you are playing by yourself. Just something I’ve noticed about this place during the 200 rounds in my life that I’ve played here. I’m guessing they’re just old, grumpy members that think the world owes them something.. Personally, i love the layout, and location of CHGC. It is a par 70 that will keep you honest at just over 6,000 yards. Hidden water hazards in the middle of fairways, and hidden sand traps. Driveable par 4’s, and very wide open fairways with a lot of tall grass. Worth the money every single time!
Good course for a good price
The staff is friendly, and the course has an interesting layout. Being out of position on this course can provide for plenty of hazards and out of bounds challenges. There are some water hazards to navigate, and some of the greens have some slope that can cause for some tricky putting. The course isn't all that long, but it can be a nice challenge. It's a fun course to play, and is also good if you like to walk. I just played it in the November, and the course does a good job keeping the greens in good shape and clear of leaves.
Tight
Tee shot critical. Tight Course that requires some shot making.
