Chapel Hill Golf Course
About
Chapel Hill Golf Course in Reading enjoys a scenic backdrop of mature forests. The tucked away locale provides a peacefully secluded setting that is ideal for a round of golf. While it may not seem like a long layout at just under 6,150 yards, you'll soon forget about any lack of length once you get on the golf course. From the very first hole you're confronted with a water hazard, a stream that weaves around five other holes. The layout forces you to think through each hole, making the tough decision between going for it or laying up. Accurate shot placement is crucial throughout the golf course, especially on the back nine where there are several tricky doglegs and tough uneven lies. Mature trees tightly line the fairways at Chapel Hill Golf Course, and the greens are framed with strategically placed bunkers.

Unplayable
The fairways were cut too short and the greens would not hold a shot whether you came in high or low. Landing areas for the most part(from the back tees) were too small.
Five-some??
Staff allowed a group of five to play in prime time on a Saturday. Pace of play was ridiculously slow. Informed the staff at the turn and they did not remedy situation. Several groups behind them quit early. Very frustrating. Will not return.
Offers a challenge
I really like the feel of Chapel Hill. It reminds me of an old time golf course and although it looks straightforward enough, you need to be accurate especially off the tee or else you'll find your next shot to be tough if not impossible. It's not especially long but there are a few par 5s that will give you a run for your money. I'll definitely be back. I had a great time.
Nice opern course
Hole #9 tee directions were a little hard to find the tee. No wind shields on carts need to get updated carts or put wind shields on them.
Excellent Course Design
Excellent course design! Challenges are aplenty; from terrain to elevation differences on individual holes to tightness of holes to green play to traps and water hazard placements. You will get to know every club you have and maybe another you will want to add to your bag. Chapel Hill is perhaps the best overall public course in the area.
Chapel Hill worth 3 bells
Not bad, not great.
A couple holes on the back nine stood out, especially #12, an almost ridiculously difficult and intimidating hole from the back tees, with the added hazard of power lines which your tee shot is supposed to fly through. (The lines come into play again on a par 5, I think it was #14.) #13 was a fairly long par 3 with a drop of about a hundred feet to the green. #16 was a nice long dog leg left par 4, #17 a ~185 yard par-3 about 50 feet uphill.
Greens were in very nice shape and medium fast. Fairway grass was thin in many places, and the ground was wet.
Rains the day before meant cart path only here as the course apparently doesn’t drain well.
Speaking of cart paths, bring a kidney belt, and maybe a seat belt.
I’d give it 3 out of 5 stars, but for $17 it was a good deal.
As the course took me over an hour to get to, I doubt I’ll return.
Good old chapel
Love the layout and the staff is very friendly. Well positioned sand traps and ponds. I use every club in the bag at chapel , plenty of variety on the holes. Definitely the best public course in the area. Cart paths is the only downside.
Great track
Can't find a harder 6056 yards from back tees.. course always in nice shape.. Greens are tough to hit and roll true..Love da Chapel
Bumpy Ride
I have played this course many times. I really like the course however the carts and cart paths are terrible.
Club in the country
Owners Bill, Brad and Ryan Holloway are 3 of the coolest business owners that you will come across. Under their leadership, the entire staff treat customers like family. The course is a position golf course, which for my game, requires me to use just about every club in my bag during a round. The greens are beautifully kept and for a public course, the best around. Add to all this very reasonable prices for play and food/drink, you can't go wrong playing Chapel Hill.
Play here often. Enjoy it every time.
Well maintained and manicured course. Every shot requires thought, not just grip and rip. Greens are difficult until you get to know them and where to hit approaches.
Always fun to play!
A Little Soggy
I love playing The Chapel! I love the lay-out. I stinks when its wet though. I hate cart path only but do understand. My only complaint is the rutty cart paths, although some have been patched, and the old golf carts. Mine stalled driving through puddles or went very slow. I switched at the turn but the 2nd one wasn't much better! I'll be Back!
Long Time Visitor of Chape Hill
I have been playing Chapel Hill since 2000. I still haven't seen them sink any kind of money into fixing immense course drainage issues, cart path treachery, golf cart maintenance or course updating. It's a shame because the course layout is decent. It is always my second to last choice for playing for the above reasons stated. If someone would just take some time and money for improving it would be a much more popular choice for locals and visitors.
Called Saturday to book tee-time for Sunday, was told $111 for threesome, got there to find out it was $126. Not a huge deal, but still set a bad first impression. Should have booked with GolfNow but I was in the car and called the course for availability. First time playing here, the course and the greens were in good condition, some challenging holes, fair amount of water/sand. Cath path could use work, felt like a wooden rollercoaster and took just under 5 hours to get in 18. I'd play again, but I do want to check out Galen Hall and a couple other local courses first.
Slow play horrible
Played a lot here over the years here because I loved the pace of play and people. Monday's round was so slow . . 1 or 2 groups held up everyone on the course and had to wait ever single shot. Hole 17 still 3 groups backed up. Disappointing
Nice course
Chapel Hill is a decent course. The layout is nice and you will have to use judgement on what to use off the tee. A lot of the front nine has water hazards.
The things I didn't care for are you will have to watch for erratic shots from other players. I was almost hit twice while I was playing one hole. I didn't hear one warning call. Chapel Hill can't help this but I found it surprising. The cart paths need redone
