Spring Hollow Good Value Course
PlaYed on Dec 5, 2016 and course was in good condition. Great value from the course and Golf Now. Will return in the Spring 2017
Spring Hollow
I decided to go to Spring Hollow because of Golf Now deal. Upon arriving, I was taken back how manicured the facility was! Beautiful!
I asked to buy a couple of beers on ice. He came back with a plastic bag and a few pieces of ice. When I asked for more ice, that's when he told me he had to go back to kitchen to get it. I declined. Most golf courses don't allow you to bring ice chest, but only seem to provide a plastic bag?
The course was beautiful, the greens were beautiful, and I will be coming back!
Different holes, especially the last six. Three long par 3's.
Greens were slow, but they would have been almost unplayable with fast greens.
Enjoyable Course
Second time playing this course. I remembered thoroughly enjoying it the first time out. Second time out I still enjoyed the layout, very straightforward. Dry conditions made things a little tough this time out. Each person in my group broke at least one tee while placing the ball because of the hard tee boxes. We did have an issue with another group teeing off while we were still on a fairway after a blind tee shot but we never saw any staff members on the course to report it to.
short but fun
Nice people, Great eats. course in great shape considering the lack of rain in the area
Interesting course - a lot of blind shots.
This is a fun little course but the conditions weren't great. It was particularly dry despite having rained 2 days before. Made it very tough to stick what are fairly small greens.
Scouting for an Outing
I have been playing as many different courses this year as I can, from Gettysburg To Ocean City Maryland. I've reviewed each, Lets face it,, golf is like pizza,, even when its bad it's still pretty good. Spring Hollow was a good 1 with elevation changes great green surfaces and well managed fairways. Bunkers where alittle rough but it has been raining here alot so " don't count that" I was greeted by a German Shepard a very friendly who seemed to like the attention he got from me. Pro shop Buck was very nice in an unpolished way gave me a cart key and said have fun. A foursum in front of me let me play through,, This course is tricky from elevation changes to Hard doglegs some layups and a back to back par 3's. cart paths are clearly marked and paved. Staff was very friendly helping me with ideas and cost analysis for an outing. Very Clean that goes along way with me as well. I'm not good enough to reccomend club selections and only reccomend them to myself. Go play Spring Hollow.
Good First Round of the Year
Course was in great shape for Mid-March. Had a blast out there with my Dad for our first round of the season. We will definitely be back!
Dissapointing
I was disapointed the minute I walked up, the doors were locked, there was no clear way to find the caddie master. Once I found the door, the only guy in there was watching TV. He handed me a key and I was on my way. Lacked professionalism. The cart stunk, I tried 3 and they all did the same thing, poor performance and bumpy ride. . The tee boxes were in poor shape but it could be because the season hasnt started yet. All sand traps were in poor condition. That also could be expected due to the time of year. My main complaint was the course it self. It seemed to go in a circle. Every hole was either dead straight or a major 90 degree dog leg to the left. I was overall disappointed. I wont be back. Luckily I got a Hot Deal for $15.
Basics are well done
This course does the basics very well:
- flat and well maintained tee boxes
- drinking water every 4-5 holes
- yardage markers in fairways
- sand in sand traps
- grounds keeping is excellent
- above average carts
The course has some very challenging and interesting holes, but isn't overly difficult. The last 5 holes are my favorite; all very hilly and interesting. I've played there 4 times and have never seen a ranger. Twice the pace of play was very slow, but that happens everywhere.
I've played many of the local courses (Lin, Bel, Land, Skip, Downing, Shan, Jeff, Raven, W'over) and SH is in the top two or three for me.
ed
Staff were great, course in outstanding shape, very interesting and challenging layout. Will definitely play it again and stay for another fabulous and enjoyable meal after.
Great Value
I played here on a golfnow deal. The course was in decent condition, the ground was hard and a little dry but overall still looked maintained. There are a few blind holes, a few very steep fairways (which did not serve well being dry), and a few great holes with views. Overall, I thought it was worth the view. There are a few course nearby that still rank a little bit higher. Overall, its a good course and will play again.
C'mon Spring Hollow...You're better than this...
So I haven't played here in about year mostly because they charge way too much money to play here versus other courses in the same area. I got a hot deal to play here through Golf Now. I was greeted with older gentleman who pretty much didn't know what the term customer service meant but whatever. All I can say is the maintenance of this course has gone way downhill. The tee boxes are really chewed up and the tee boxes were so hard, that I could barley get my tee into the ground. The fairways and rough had chunks of mowed grass that hadn't been picked up. The greens were about average but did have a lot of ball marks that weren't replaced. This course has a lot of good character and can be challenging but overall conditions and the staff don't do this place any favors. I probably would not recommend here to someone looking to spend 50-70 per round. Go some place that would treat their course better, like Linfield, Ravens Claw, or Turtle Creek.
need nilly goat legs
lot of hillds..
many blind shots
grass was good..unfortunately too long in faitrway causing lost time trying to find a fairway shot...
course directional sighs on tee boxes very inaccurate
a couple more yardage markers would be great..
worse part..bar/grille closed to public for a graduation party... disappointing
When you get to the entrance.. keep driving
Booked a 7:08 tee time. Arrived before 7:00 to a nearly empty parking lot. Only person I saw was an man sitting outside drinking coffee. I asked if they were open yet because the pro shop was still dark. He responded "see for yourself".
As I enter the dark pro shop, the pro shop guy was at a table eating a breakfast sandwich. I approached the counter and stood there for about 2 minutes before the guy eating the sandwich finally got up, in disgust mind you, and said "You got a time?" After paying for my round, he litterally threw a cart key at me and said it's wide open.
After finding my way to the first tee, which took a little while since it was obviously too troublesome to point me in the right direction for the pro shop guy, I set off on my round. The course itself was in pretty good shape, greens were well groomed but extremely slow and peppered with unfixed ball marks. Very easy course with not a lot of trouble. Fairways were beat up with unfilled divots.
As I got to the 10th tee, after not seeing a soul on the front, there was a single in front of me hitting an approach. I play fast so I thought I may have caught up with him. I wait on the tee for about 10 minutes while he hits 3 shots from the same spot. Whatever, we've all been there. This goes on for the next 3 holes. I finally get to 13 which is a par 5. I see the guy in front of me sitting in the fairway waiting for another player that was on the green. Out of nowhere, the guy in front of me disappears into the trees on the right. Figuring he couldn't see the green clear from where his ball was, he was in the fairway. 10 minutes later he still hadn't come out, so I teed off. Never saw the guy again. Where he went, I have no idea. If you have to warm up, USE THE RANGE!!!! The rest of the round went without incident.
Needless to say, I will never be back.
Really Nice Course
Some recent reviews have said that the course conditions have gone downhill. There were some damage to one fairway caused by heavy rain but otherwise this course is in great shape. The greens are fast if you happen to be above the hole but they putt rather true. My playing partner and I had a bit of trouble on the front nine just getting used to the breaks and speed. However, we both played well and scored on the back nine. I shot 39 and he shot 41. We definitely recommend playing here and will return often.
Nice course
Love this course, usually in really good condition but seems to be slipping a little. Some fairways were really bad, greens were ok.
Course is Just OK
The course was very well kept, however the greens are very short and fairways quite narrow. If you are looking for a course that you can grip and rip drivers down long fairways, this course is not for you. you will find yourself hitting irons off tee boxes to accommodate for 90° turns in fairways. Par 3s are very short. I hit a PW and a 56° off of two tee boxes.
Good value
Well it was a hot deal. The fairway on 10 was very poor, greens are always fast here. There was a foursome of women in front of us, so pace of play was a problem. It's a good course, needs some upkeep. Staff could be more friendly. I hope these issues get resolved
Course Needs Some Love
I just played here and my group was disappointed -- which was a real shame because this course is usually in decent shape but clearly something has gone miserably wrong. This course has some very nice holes and can be challenging. Very tough to walk!!!! High handicappers will struggle on a few of the holes. Several fairways have brown spots -- almost like they lost some of them last year and haven't recovered. The sand traps need work. Greens are okay but need rolled. Tee boxes are fair at best. By comparison, an average course 15 minutes west of there looked immaculate compared to Spring Hollow. Staff is friendly enough. Drinks at the bar are very expensive -- $7 - $11 for a shot is crazy!!!!
