#1 tee looking straight down fairway to the green Photo submitted by BigJimSportSlam on 07/08/2013
When you HOT, you HOT, but these ladies were not
Course in FABULOUS shape...everything super except whoevee put the cup placement in on #1 failed to do it correctly. The one side of cup level was about 1/8 " deep while on other side of cup was like 3" deep which made it impossible to get the ball into the hole from certain spots.Everyone complained. Also a supposed regular 4 some of women held up the course hacking all over and running back forgetting clubs, etc. Need someone to monitor these old bags and foreigners and tell them to let people through. This course is too hard for hacks, especially in 95 degree weather.
The Galen Hall
Still fun to play the tough old Mt.
Started here in the 1970's and still love playing here!
Okay play on a hot day
Overall a fun day but very hot. Course is quite hilly .
Old school charm
Great golf course. Tons of character. Few tee boxes need some TLC but greens and fairways were great. Tillinghast on a budget. Drove 75 minutes and will do it again in a few weeks. Old school charm, great layout. Fun. How golf should be.
Hidden PA Gem
This was my first time playing this course. What an absolute gem. Each hole has such unique character. There are a few odd holes, like #2 which definitely takes some local knowledge. The course was practically empty. Our foursome played in about 3.5 hours. The tee boxes and bunkers are a little rough. Fairways were great and the greens were very good. Greens are kind of small (#7 might be the smallest green I’ve ever seen). Lots of slope on the greens. This is very fun golf course. Our group will definitely be back.
Lacks amenities and poor management
They were obviously catering to their members at our expense on the day we played this course. Told us there were 10 groups of team play behind us and we had better keep moving before we got started. They should have mentioned this when the tee time was reserved. We played the round in 4 hours and were feeling pushed at every tee. The reason was the group behind us either teed from the red tees or the beginning of the fairway the entire round. I have been playing golf for 40 years and never experienced anything like this. No ball washers, few trash receptacles and no portable toilets on the entire course and the 10th hole is nowhere near the club house. The course is in need of a lot of maintenance that should have been done years ago. Will definitely not play this course again..
As I have said before, everything here is great, except most players are hacks (least when I was there)...course is a challenge and beautiful layout except the pace of play is way too slow. Why do duffers have to take 3 practice swings and take 15 minutes to putt for their 8's and 9's?
Good course, way overbooked
The course was well kept and provided a great challenge. However, the staff at GH overbooked WAY too much on the tee times today. They should be ashamed at how slow the play was due to how many people they booked tee times for. We would get to a tee box and have to wait up to 10 minutes before we could play through. Eventually there would three groups at one tee box waiting to tee off. This was extremely frustrating. Won’t play here again because of this.
Amazing mountain golf
You'll come for the moat hole but will remember everything else. Not saying the moat under delivers but more that the rest of the place over delivers. Front has a ton of elevation changes and small greens, back is more punitive. Great place.
Heh? Putt ow?
Course is very tough for average golfer. Course is very scenic and beautiful. YOU BETTER BE AN OUTSTANDING PUTTER AND READ GREENS as they are tricky. I had a 16 inch putt for a birdie, just slightly above the hole...touched it lightly, it just edged hole and rolled 20 feet past. Ugh, and I am a very skilled putter....pace of play good, staff excellent. Try it, you might fall in love like I did.
Loved how fast the greens were today
The greens were fast and the course was not overly for once. Really enjoyed myself and I played the best I ever played there especially putting. Birdied 18 which I do not believe I had done there before. Shot Par on 17 and so I got into a grove on the back comparatively. Forgot some of my yardages on. 2-3 holes and picked the wrong clubs. It was a beautiful day out too! Lot of fun!!!!
First open day after Covid
For it being the first open day in the state of Pa I was impressed with the course. As usual the greens were in good shape, te rough was difficult but understandably so considering. Very pleased!
Nice but!!!
Great fairways, greens & layout. Tee boxes & cart paths need a lot of work. Renewed cart path between 15 & 16 needs to happen all over course. Parking lots need to be repaved. Carts in good shape.
Great Course
This a fun course with a nice mix of easy and challenging holes. Can’t wait to play again!
Fantastic Old Design
Great architecture, as well as some of the nicest (albeit wet) winter conditions around.
I understand it’s winter and I don’t expect much for January golf, but from the looks of greens they have not been cleaned up in weeks. Had to putt through goose droppings and large sticks on multiple greens.
Good course layout, very friendly staff.
Even though the cart path is not in its greatest shape, the course is challenging and the greens and the fairways are decent and the stuff is very friendly. I will certainly come back to play more.
Thank you for your review. I’m looking into a serious injury that may have involved the cart path at this course. If you had any issues or concerns with the cart path during your visit, please reach out to me with information about your experience. Your input could be very helpful. Challenging
This is one of my favorite courses. If it were closer to my home, I’d be playing it on a regular basis. It is very hilly and there are numerous uphill tee shots. There is even an island green par 3. To score well on this course, you better have a good short game,
