Wildwood Green Golf Course
About
Wildwood Green Golf Club in northern Raleigh was designed with players of all skill levels in mind, Opened in 1986, the classic layout underwent a major renovation 10 years later that made it into a challenging but playable test that welcomes everyone from beginners to seasoned pros. Generous landing areas offer some room for error off of the tee and the greens are large and inviting. There are still plenty of trees and sand traps to keep the layout interesting though. Accuracy and careful pin placement are also required to handle Wildwood Green's subtle elevation changes. The golf course finishes with one of its most difficult holes. This par 4 is a slight dogleg right with Carolina pines bordering the right edge as well as a bunker to the left. The approach is an uphill, blind shot to a deep and undulated green.

Poor Quality Today
To begin, the started let a group of 3 walkers go ahead of us because they were ready at the box at 2:15 when their tee time was 2:30 and ours 2:20. What is that? We had terrible pace of play, quit early after 12 as we were already over 3 hours 20 minutes. Whole round would've taken 5.5 hours likely.
Course was wet but had good drainage overall. Green cut extremely short to keep speed. Overall wasn't the most pleased but it was ok
Fantastic greens
I was surprised with the quality of the greens, including the firmness, speed, and roll on all 18. Really impressive stuff, and a steal for the price.
Logistical Nightmare
The COVID restrictions are a little much making you check-in and get range balls over the phone. When we went, we asked the man on the phone for range balls and were not told where to get them or how to pay. When we got to the range the starter sent us back to where we came from and made it seem as if it were our fault that we were not instructed on how the process worked. Range is not even worth getting there early as it is mats only with a max of 250 yards and always full making you wait for a mat. Trees were clearly overgrown into fairways and further trees blocked shots that should be rewarded for hitting the middle of the fairway. As we were getting on the tee we were also told that #11 was going to be closed for tree removal...nice. The last thing you should know is that this is a very busy course so expect to wait on shots.
On the upside, the greens were well kept, fast, and ran true.
Super fast greens, great layout
Course is in wonderful shape, greens were super fast, love the layout
Bad layout and staff
The course is in decent condition, the greens are fun and quick. The layout of the course is not great, from the tips it is only about 6400 and it doesn't seem like it should even be that long. The back tees will have trees that block out shots that are clearly not designed to block out but simply because they are overgrown. The driving range was ridiculous, absolutely packed to the brim where it gets to the point where someone is waiting on behind you to get your spot. The range itself is god awful, it is only on mats and limited to shots below 250 so no driver for most. The starter was not particularly helpful and didn't seem pleased to be there.
Solid bang for ur buck track
Great track, especially considering my green fees were $33 n $21(twilight) respectively. I can’t say anything bad about Wildwood aside from pace of play...it can be Treacherous no matter what time/day u play! With that being said as much consistent play they have it’s surprising how well the greens, fairways n tee boxes still present this late in the season.
The last time I played 9/16, the starter was genuinely a caring person. He went out of his way to make me feel completely comfortable. It is rare to find folks like that, Thank you sir...I’m just embarrassed I didn’t get his name
Great Course
This is always a great course to play and I enjoy the challenge. Play was slow due to the holiday but it was still a joyful day to be on the course. The greens were fast but playable for a 20 handicapper. Love this course.
Can’t wait to play again
Great course! Greens were firm, fast, and true! It is a real test of skill to score well. A great privilege to play, thank you!
Great experience
Wildwood Green continues to get better and better. The commitment of the club and its staff to provide a quality experience really shows. The golf course was in excellent shape and greens some of the best around. And even though COVID-19 is creating challenges the staff has made changes to efficiently handle them. The management and staff led by Jeff continue to provide top notch service. I will continue to play Wildwood Green as often as I can.
Time
Hot deal that didn’t start until 5:20, disappointed no to get the 18 in before dusk. Pace of play very slow. We were able to get 15 in so that’s good
Great greens
I have not written a review for any golf courses I played before. However, I am eager to write this review for the round I played at Wildwood Green for the first time. Since I joined Lonnie Poole this year, this was my first round at Wildwood, although I played quite a few rounds last year at this course. I was very impressed by the green condition. They were firm, fast and pure. I would rank them the second, only behind Duke course for all the courses I played this year. Those Bermuda grass greens are in their best condition.. I played 17 holes till totally dark, with 2 birdies, 7 pars from Blue tees. Paired with a member for 9 holes, and had really a good time.
Ready, Set, Wait
I really like the course and the staff. The young man they put in as the starter/greeter is a great idea and gives it a country club feel.
The major drawback is, the pace of play. It can be super slow. I attribute this to a lack of awareness by newer golfers that don't understand 'ready to play' concepts. For example, there is no reason why each person (all have separate carts) should be waiting for every shot in their party before addressing their ball/prepping for their shot. It may seem polite, but it is the major contributor to slow play. Also, it would be helpful to allocate certain times of the day for older golfers and/or female golfers that don't have a lower handicap. It can not be much fun for them to be rushed, and its not fun waiting 5-10 minutes before each shot.
Great local course
Wildwood is always a pleasure to play. Staff and members are so friendly. Course is in good shape!
Great course, always play with great people!
I play as a single a lot of the times and I always get paired up with great people at this course! Fairways are in pretty good shape as well are the greens as I know it's tough with this extreme heat we're experiencing. Course is not very flat so placed tee shots are critical. Hole placements are always challenging. Love this course and will remain on my play list this year! Great job to Wildwood Green staff!
