Adequate municipal course
Fun course to play. Needed water in the coolers. Good bathrooms. Will be back.
Incredibly dry, dead and hard.
Played this course on Memorial Day, which was a great price for a holiday round. However i quickly I became quite frustrated by the conditions of the course as it effected play quite a bit. The majority of the fairways and rough were completely dead and dry with barely any grass to hit off of no matter where you landed. Because of the dry/dead conditions I the ball runs forever. A decent shot could end up terribly because it could run out an extra 50-150 yds without any idea of when it will stop. This same thing applied to the greens which were rock hard with almost no grass, it was like putting in a parking lot. This also made it incredibly difficult to hit onto the greens as well as even the best shots managed to roll off every time. I would not even recommend this course for beginner as the conditions will lead to more frustration than ease of play. Also, being that I played on a holiday I expected there to be some delays but while the first couple holes we were moving along fine we quickly found ourselves backed up with multiple groups waiting on tee boxes due to a group of 5-6 high school aged looking kids all playing together on the same hole. This would be fine if they were skilled enough to maintain play but this was the complete opposite as they appeared to be out there joking around. Eventually this frustration resulted in us leaving after the 10th hole and did not get to finish the round. Avoid this course unless it is the only option.
How improvements should look
I’ve played here for years now and it is head and shoulders above how it was previously. Greens are good tee boxes solid and the fairways are great. Only downside is that nobody fixes their divots on the greens but the staff can’t control that. 7.5/10 overall 9/10 for the price.
Greens looked almost dead
Not sure what happened but the greens had little to no grass on them. A lot of the rough has died as well. Hopefully Whittles can make a comeback now that it’s warm.

Thanks for your review. We have champion bermuda greens and they are just now coming out of dormancy due to the cooler spring temperatures. We have seen a lot of improvement in the last few weeks and we expect excellent course conditions again this summer and beyond.
Great value
The course layout is really tight.
They had just sanded the greens (maintenance is always happening) and some of the forward (red) tee boxes were mostly dirt.
This course is better than several of the courses we played last winter in North Central Florida.
We will definitely play here again.
Worse maintained course I've ever played on
Wow! Knoxville Park & Rec (or whoever funds this course) doesn't know how to maintain a course (or simply doesn't care) Painted, hard, unmanageable greens that don't play like a real course. Fairways that are basically dirt (told me it was dry but they apparently don't ever water in off season. Fairways covered with water & unmanaged water markings. Tees set up strangely on several holes. Poorly marked. What a mess!
Will never be playing there again as long as Alex is employed there
Was treated very unfairly by the staff. I have played there many times and will never be booking through Golf Now or Whittle springs again. I am okay spending more money at a course where I am more valued as a player and a customer.

We apologize for your poor experience. We discussed the incident with the customer and the employee to ensure that this does not happen again.
Green's need WORK
Never in my life have a played a course where balls are basically designed to roll off the green. The greens are like putting on glass, and MULTIPLE times, my playing partner and I had 3 or 4 foot putts just barely miss the cup and slowly roll all the way OFF the green... It was like nothing I've seen before. Something must be done about those putting surfaces.

Thank you for your feedback. We will consult with the golf course maintenance team to address your concerns.
We apologize for your poor experience. Unfortunately bermuda grass courses in our area are a little late coming out of dormancy this year due cooler spring temperatures. We are just now starting to see very good growth and conditions will only improve in the coming weeks. Memorial Day is always a busy day for us but we try and maintain a strong pace of play. We do not allow any groups of more than four but we do get backed up especially on the back nine due to multiple reachable par 5's and a couple short par 4's. Please contact us if you ever have any pace of play issues. Thank you for your review.
